Gilani |
The House of Imran - Chapter 3
|
| Contains 200 verses – Medina |
|
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful |
|
1- |
1.
Alif Lam Mim (from Allah to Muhammad) |
|
2- |
God, none is worthy of being worshipped except He.
The Ever-Living, the Self-Subsistent, Sustainer of all beings |
|
|
3- |
1.
The One, Who sent down the Book (the Quran) to you
(Muhammad) gradually, in truth,
confirming what came before it and He had sent down Torah (to
Moses) and Gospel (to Jesus), |
|
4- |
In the past, (He sent down these books) for guidance of people
and He sent down the Criterion (the Quran, the distinguisher of
right and wrong,
since contents of the previous books were altered, by
mistranslation parts of them concealed
1
and other sentences added by people throughout the centuries and
thousands of years).
Certainly those who disregarded or disbelieved in the
Revelations-Verses of God,
will have severe suffering and God is the All Mighty, the
Invincible, Retaliator. |
|
5- |
1.
Truly, nothing is hidden from God, in the earth or
in the heaven. |
|
6- |
1.
He is the one who shapes you in the wombs (of your
mothers), the way He wills,
None is worthy of being worshipped except He, the All Mighty,
the All Wise. |
|
7- |
1.
He is the One who sent down to you (Muhammad), the
Book (Quran),
in which there are Verses solidly and explicitly clear;
these are the basic foundations of the Book and others are
metaphorical (like examples).
So as for those in whose heart there is a deviation and
perversity (away from truth),
they follow after whatever appears to them from it,
seeking to mislead and searching to interpret (to suit their
motives).
But none knows its ultimate meaning and purpose except God
and those who are firmly grounded in Knowledge, say:
“We believe in it; the whole of it is from our Lord”,
and none may grasp the truth except people with wisdom. |
|
8- |
1.
(They say:) “Our Lord, Let our hearts not deviate
(from truth)
after you have guided us and grant us Mercy from You.
Truly you are the Ever Grantor of all blessings.” |
|
9- |
1.
“Our Lord, indeed you are the Gatherer of mankind on
the Day (of Judgment),
about which there is no doubt.
Certainly God never fails His promise.” |
|
10- |
1.
Indeed those who disbelieve, neither their wealth,
nor their children
will guard them whatsoever against God ('s punishment) and they
themselves will be the fuel of (Hell) fire. |
|
11- |
1.
Their
behavior is like the behavior of people of Pharaoh
and before them,
they denied and called our Signs and Revelations as lies.
Then God seized them for their sins.
And God is Severe in the
punishment. |
|
12- |
1. (O’ Muhammad) say to those who disbelieve:
“You will soon be defeated and gathered towards Hell, which is a
terrible place to linger (to stay).” |
|
13- |
1.
There has already been a sign (of God's support for
Muhammad and the defending believers with him)
for you (the Jews) to ponder, in the situation of the two
armies, which met (in the combat of Badr).
One was fighting for the cause of God and the other army was
composed of disbelievers,
they saw them (by God's will) twice their number, with their
eyes perception
(so that they became afraid of the number of the believers and
so they were defeated).
And God supports by His help whom He wants.
Certainly in this, there is a lesson for those who have the power of
insight. |
|
14- |
Love
of pleasures that come from women and having children,
storing up heaps of gold and silver and especially branded
horses and cattle and farmland
appear to be pleasant and nice to people; these are the
provisions of the present world's life,
but (instead of these, focus your attention to the words of) God,
in Whose presence (and remembrance) is the real beauty of the
goal (of life)
2 |
|
15- |
1.
(O'
Muhammad)
say: "Shall I inform you of something better than those
(temporary attractions of life)?
For the pious, God-conscious persons by their Lord, there are
gardens (of Paradise) below which streams flow,
they shall live in there forever and they will have purified
mates and God's satisfaction (for their achievements of this
world)
and (know that) God is the All-Observant over His good servants, |
|
16- |
1.
Those who say: "Our Lord, we really believe, so
please forgive our sins and save us from the punishment of the
fire". |
|
|
17- |
Those who are
patient, truthful, and humbly worship God with all their being,
give (in the way of God) and beg for God's Forgiveness in the
late hours of night (before dawn). |
|
18- |
God Himself bears
witness that none is worthy of worship except He,
and the angels and people having knowledge, stand firm
for fair and correct judgment,
bear witness
that there is no one worthy of worship except He,
Who is the All
Mighty, the All Wise Commander. |
|
19- |
Certainly, The true
Religion by God is Islam (submission of own being to God alone)
and those who were given Scriptures (the Jews and the
Christians) did not contradict this fact,
except out of envy and jealousy by themselves, after knowledge
had come to them.
And those who reject and deny God's Verses of Revelations, should
know that God is Swift in calling to account.
3 |
|
20- |
1.
So
(Muhammad)
if they dispute with you, say:
"I have surrendered my whole being to God and so have those who
follow me."
And say to those who where given the Scripture (the Jews and the
Christians)
and to those common folks (Arab illiterates):
"Have you also surrendered (yourselves to God)?"
If they do, then they are truly guided, but if they turn away,
your duty is only to convey the Message
and God is the All-Observant over His servants. |
|
21- |
Those who disbelieve
in the Signs (Verses) of God and kill the prophets without any
right
and kill those people who order and advocate justice and
fairness (in the society),
warn them of a painful punishment. |
|
22- |
Those are the ones,
whose any previous good works will be wiped off in this world
and in the Hereafter and they will have no helpers. |
|
23- |
1.
Haven't you seen those who have been given a portion
of the Scripture? (the Jews and Christians),
they are being invited to refer to the Book of God to judge and
settle their dispute,
but then a group of them turns away while they are protesting,
and not accepting (the Laws of God) . |
|
24- |
This is because they
(imagine and) say: "the (Hell) Fire shall not touch us except
for a few days,"
and this kind of falsehood that they invented, deceived them in
their religious beliefs. |
|
25- |
Then figure how the
situation will be, when We gather them on the Day in which there
is no doubt about it
and each person will be paid back in full for what he or she
earned and they won't be treated unjustly. |
|
26- |
Say (in prayer): "O'
God, Owner and Ruler of all existence and Kingdom (of heavens
and earth),
you give authority and kingdom to whomever You will
and you take away the authority and kingdom from whomever you
want
and you honor whom you will and humiliate whom you decide.
In your Hand (power of Decision) lies All Goodness.
Truly, You alone are the Ultimate Decider over all things.
|
|
27- |
You cause the night
to merge into the day and you cause the day to merge into the
night,
and you make living beings out of dead matter and you remove
(the soul and life) out of the living, to cause them to die.
And you give livelihood and provisions to whomever you want,
without any limit (in abundance) |
|
|
28- |
The believers should
not take as trustee the disbelievers, rather than the believers
and whoever does that, is not behaving according to God's
commands about any thing,
except if you fear a danger from them.
And God warns you against disobeying Him and (know that) to God
is the final return. |
|
29- |
(O' Muhammad) say:
"If you hide what is in your chests (inner beings) or reveal it,
God knows it
and He knows whatever is in heavens and earth.
And God is Powerful and Determinant over all things." |
|
30- |
(Think about) the
Day when every person will be confronted with all the good, he
or she has done
and all the evil he or she has done, would wish that there would
be a great distance
between him/her and it (the evil deeds).
And God warns you against disobeying Him and God is Very Kind to
his Servants |
|
31- |
Say (O' Muhammad to
mankind): If you love God, follow me, He will love you and
forgive your sins
and God is the Very Forgiving, the Most Merciful (to good
people)." |
|
32- |
(O' Muhammad) say:
"Obey God and the messenger (Muhammad)."
But if they turn away, then ( they should know that) God does
not like the disbelievers. |
|
|
33- |
God chose Adam,
Noah, the descendants of Abraham and the family of Imran over
the people
(of their times, as prophets and role-models). |
|
34- |
Some of their
offsprings were descendents from others.
And God is the All-Hearer, All-knowing (recognizes best whom to
choose for His guidance). |
|
|
35- |
Once the wife of
Imran said:
"O' my Lord, I have vowed to you that,
what is in my womb to be dedicated to your service, so please
accept this from me.
You are truly the All-Hearer, the All-Knowing." |
|
36- |
And when she gave
birth to her (child Mary), she said:
"O' my Lord, I have given birth to a female child.",
and God knew better what she delivered.
(She also said:) the male is not like the female and I named her
Mary
and I submit her and her future offspring to You, from Satan ('s
temptations) who is cast out.
4 |
|
37- |
So her Lord accepted
her with a nice acceptance
and made her grow gracefully and put Zachary in charge of her
guardianship.
Whenever Zachary entered the sanctuary (prayer room) to see her,
he found her supplied with sustenance
(means of livelihood such as foods and knowledge).
He said: "O' Mary, Where did you get this from?"
She said: "This is from God,
truly God provides livelihood to whom He wants, without
limitation". |
|
38- |
On that occasion,
Zachary prayed to his Lord, saying:
"O' my Lord, Grant me from your Majesty a pure offspring, as you
are indeed All-Hearer of prayers." |
|
39- |
Then the angels
called him, while he was standing in prayer in the prayer room
(saying):
"God gives you the good news of (the coming birth of) John, who shall
confirm a Word from God
(witnessing the truth of a Word from God)
5
and he will be noble, chaste and a prophet from among the righteous
people". |
|
40- |
He (Zachary) said:
"O' my Lord, How can I have a son when old age has reached me
and my wife is barren?"
He said: "Thus does God do what He wills." |
|
41- |
He said O' my Lord,
Make a sign (of hope) for me".
He said: "Your sign will be that for three days, you shall not
(be able to) speak to people
except by (hand) movements signals.
And remember your Lord very often and praise (Him) by evenings
and early morning hours." |
|
|
42- |
Also (remember) when
angels said (to Mary):
"O Mary, Truly God has chosen you (as a special servant) and
purified you
and has chosen you above all the women of the world." |
|
|
43- |
"O' Mary, submit
yourself obediently to your Lord and prostrate (your head to
ground)
and bow down along with those who bow down in prayer." |

44- |
This is part of the
news unknown (to you) that we reveal to you (O' Muhammad).
You were not with them when they (the elders) cast lots with
their pens as to which of them
should have the honor of guardianship of Mary (when she was a
child),
nor were you with them, when they were disputing (the result of
the choice). 6 |
|
|
45- |
(Remember) when the
angels said:
"O' Mary, Truly God informs you of good news by a Command word
of His
(that you will become pregnant, a son) whose name will be
Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, held in honor in this world
and in the Hereafter and he will be of those near (dear to
God)." |
|
46- |
"And he will speak
to people while in cradle (as infant) and in his manhood as well
and he will be of the righteous ones." |
|
|
47- |
She said: "O' my
Lord, How shall I have a son?, whereas no man has ever touched me".
He said: "So shall be it, as God creates what He wills.
When He
has decreed something to be, then He says: 'Be' And it is!" |
|
48- |
And God will teach
him the Book and the wisdom (of prophethood), the Torah and the
Gospel, 7 |
|

49- |
"And He will appoint
him as a Messenger to the children of Israel saying:
"I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, that I fashion
out of clay, a figure of a bird
and I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by God's decree
and I will heal the born blind and the leper
and I will bring to life the dead by God's decree
and I will inform you what you eat and what you keep in your
homes.
Certainly in these, should be a sign (of truth from God) for you
if you are going to believe." |
|
|
50- |
"And I am confirming
that which is (available to me) between my hands of the remnants of
the Torah
and to make lawful to you part of what was forbidden to you
and I have come with a sign (miracle) from your Lord. So heed to
God's Commands and obey me."
8 |
|
|
51- |
"Truly God is my
Lord and your Lord, so worship Him (Alone).
This is the straight right way (of life) |
|
52- |
1.
Them when Jesus sensed disbelief from them, he said:
"Who are the ones which will help me in the cause of God?"
The disciples said: "We are the helpers of God ('s religion), we
believe in God
and bear witness that we are Muslims (we submit ourselves
to totally God)." |
|
|
53- |
"Our Lord, We
believe in what you have sent down (as Revelations) and we
follow the messenger (Jesus)
and please count us with those who bear witness (that there is
no god worthy of worship, but God). |
|
54- |
And they (the
disbelievers) plotted (to kill Jesus), and God plotted (also
against their plots)
and God is the Best Planner. |
|
55- |
And remember when
God said: "O' Jesus, I am going to take you and raise you to My
Presence
and clear you of the false accusation and the falsehood of those
who disbelieve
and I will rank those who followed you (as prophet of the One
God), above those who disbelieved
(forged the trinity and other disbeliefs), till the Day of
Resurrection.
Then your return will be to Me and I will Judge between you
about the matters in which you have differences of opinions". |
|
56- |
"As for those who
disbelieved, I shall punish them (according to their sins) with
a severe punishment in this world
(such as by anxiety) and in the Hereafter (by perpetual unending
burning regret, etc) and they will have no helpers." |
|
57- |
And as for those who
believe (in the Oneness of God) and do righteous good deeds,
He will pay them their rewards in full.
Whereas God does not like the disbelievers (wrong-doers). |
|
58- |
This is what We read
to you (O' Muhammad) of the Verses and it is the wise Reminder
(the Quran). |
|
59- |
Indeed the likeness
of the creation of Jesus (without a father) by God is like
the creation of Adam
(without a father or mother).
He created him from dust, then He said for him to: "Be".
And he
came into being. |
|
60- |
The truth is from
your Lord, therefore don't be of the doubters. |
|
61- |
Then whoever
disputes with you (Muhammad) regarding him (Jesus, as son of God
or Trinity)
after that amount of knowledge that has come to you (Muhammad,
from God),
then say (to them): "Come, let us call our sons and your sons,
our women and your women (of the families),
ourselves and yourselves, then invoke (ask for) the curse of God
upon those who are telling lies." |
|
62- |
Certainly this is
the true story (of Jesus),
and of course there is no god except God and truly He is the
All-Mighty, All-wise. |
|
63- |
But if they turn
away (do not accept this proposal of invoking curse upon the
liars),
then of course God is the All-Aware of those who do mischief
(who fool people into believing that Jesus is God). |
|
64- |
(O' Muhammad) say: "O' people of the Book
(Jews and Christians),
come to a common ground between us and you, that we do not
worship anyone except God
and that we do not associate any partners to Him
and that none of us shall take others as lords besides God".
But if they decline and turn their backs, say:
"Bear witness that we are surrendering our beings to God as
Muslims" (but you are not).
9 |
|
65- |
O' people of the
Book (Jews and Christians), why do you dispute about Abraham
(saying he was a Jew, whereas he was born in Babylonia, present
day southern Iraq)
the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until (long) after
him?
Don't you want to use your reasoning (to make sense)? |
|
66- |
You used to dispute
about things that you had some knowledge about,
then why are you disputing about a point in which you have no
knowledge?
The truth is that God knows and you do not know. |
|
|
67- |
Abraham was neither
a Jew nor Christian, but he was a true monotheist
who submitted
his will to God
and His power as a Muslim
and he was not one of those who associate others
to God. |
|
68- |
Of course, those
having the most spiritual closeness to Abraham,
are those who followed him
(in his monotheistic belief in One God and in his submitting his
will to God),
including this prophet (Muhammad who believes the same way)
and those who have believed (with him as Muslims).
And God is the Real Patron (Guardian) of the believers. |
|
|
69- |
A party of the
people of the Book (of the Jews and Christians) wish to mislead you,
but they are misleading themselves only and they are not getting
the point
(that God protects the believers from being misled).
10 |
|
|
70- |
O people of the
Book, why do you deny the Verses of God, while you (deep inside)
bear witness
(that these Verses are true and that God is One). |
|
71- |
O people of the
Book, Why do you dress over (cover up) the truth with falsehood
and conceal the truth knowingly. |
|
72- |
A group of the
people of the Book said:
"Pretend in believing in what has been sent down to the
believers (Muslims) in the morning
but deny at the end of the day (so as to confuse the believers)
so that they may return to disbelief." |
|
73- |
"And (the Jewish
rabbis said): Do not believe anyone except the one that follows
your faith."
(O' Muhammad) say:
"The true guidance is the Guidance of God, Who blesses one with, such as you have been granted
(this
blessing of revelation of the Quran)."
Or that they would engage you in argument in the presence of
your Lord.
Say: "Behold, All Grace is in the Hand (by Determination) of
God,
He grants it to whom He wants and God is the Grantor of
Widespread Grace, the All-knowing
(Who Knows best, whom to grant the Grace).
11 |
|
|
74- |
He selects for His
Grace whom He wants and God is the owner of Great Grace. |
|
|
75- |
From among the
people of Scriptures (the Jews and the Christians) is the kind
of person,
that if you trust him with a large amount (of gold or wealth),
he will readily deliver it back to you and among them is the
kind of person that if you trust him with a single silver coin,
he won't pay it back except if you insist on him, standing
against him, demanding it;
because they (claim and) say:
"There is no problem or sin for us to take and keep the
properties of the (illiterate) local people"
But they are telling a lie against God's Commandments and they
know it. 12 |
|
76- |
But whoever keeps
and fulfills his promise and avoids disobeying (God), then God
loves those pious people. |
|
77- |
Certainly those who
give up away the covenant of God and their oaths for the price
of some little worldly gain, 13
they shall have no portion (of any good) in the Hereafter.
Neither will God speak to them, nor look at them on the Day of
Resurrection, nor will He cleanse them
(of their evil deeds, to be eligible for Mercy), and they shall
have a painful punishment
14 |
|
78- |
And indeed, from
among them, are some individuals, who while reading the Book,
twist and distort their language (the meaning), so as to make
you think that it is part of the Book (Torah),
but it isn't from the Book and they claim it is from God, but it
is not from God and they speak a lie about God,
while they know (that they are lying). |
|
79- |
It is not right for
any human being, to whom God has given the Book,
the Law and the prophethood, then would say to people: "Be my
worshippers besides God."
But rather you should be people who are aware of the Lord,
(worshipping Him alone),
according to what you have been teaching the Book and studying
it. |
|
80- |
Nor would He order
you to take angels and prophets as your lords.
Would He order you to disbelief (into wrong gods),
after you
have submitted your will to God a as Muslims? 15 |
|
81- |
And (remember) when
God took the Covenant (oath of allegiance) through the prophets,
saying:
"Since I have given you knowledge of a Book and wisdom of the
laws (inform people that which is with you of the Book),
then a Messenger (Muhammad) shall come to you, confirming that
which is with you (of the Book),
that you must believe in him and must help him."
God said: "Do you agree and take up this Covenant of mine?"
they said: "We agree."
He said: "Then bear witness and I am with you as One of the
witnesses (to this agreement)." |
|
82- |
Therefore whoever
turns away after this, those are indeed the outlaw renegades (disobedients). |
|
83- |
Do they seek other
than God's religion?
Whereas to Him submits any and all being in
the heavens and earth, willingly or unwillingly,
and to Him (into His Custody) all shall be returned. |
|
84- |
(O' Muhammad) say:
"We believe in God and in what has been sent down to us (of
Revelations)
and in what was sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob
and to the offsprings, (of the twelve sons of Jacob)
and that which was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets
from their Lord.
We make no distinction between anyone of them (all said the
same: worship only the One God)
and we have submitted our will to Him as Muslims. |
|
85- |
And whoever seeks a
religion (a creed and way of life) other than Islam (which is submission
to God, in peace),
it (his efforts) won't be ever accepted from him and in the
Hereafter, he will be one of the losers. |
|
86- |
How would God guide
those people who reject faith after their acceptance
and after they bore witness that the Messenger (Muhammad) is
indeed truthful
and after clear evidences had reached them?
And (know that) God does not guide people who do injustice (to
themselves, by denying the truth). |
|
87- |
The reaction to the
behavior of such people, is the Curse of God,
the angels and of all the mankind altogether (in the Hereafter, when no one
will have any favorable look at them). |
|
88- |
They shall remain in
that situation forever and the punishment on them will not be
reduced,
nor will they have any even temporary
relief. |
|
89- |
Except those who
repent after that and they correct (their past) with good works.
Certainly God is Very Forgiving, Most Merciful (to good
people). |
|
90- |
Indeed those who
disbelieved after their belief,
then insisted in increasing the degree of defiance and disbelief
(of themselves and others),
their repentance shall never be accepted and those are the ones
who are far away in the wrong direction. |
|
91- |
Indeed, those who
disbelieved and died while they were disbelievers, even the
whole earth full of gold
would not be accepted from anyone of them, if offered as ransom.
For them, there shall be a painful suffering and they won't have
any helpers. |
|
92- |
You (believers),
never will you reach the state of piety and righteousness unless
you spend (in the Way of God)
of those items that you love and of course whatever you donate,
God is Aware of it |
|
93- |
All kinds of food
was lawful to the children of Israel, except those foods that
Israel (Jacob)
had forbidden for himself (for health reasons), before the Torah
was revealed.
(O' Muhammad) say: "Bring the Torah, then read it if you are
being truthful." |
|
94- |
Then after this
whoever invents a lie against God, then those are the kind of
people who do injustice
(to themselves and others). |
|
95- |
(O' Muhammad) say:
"God spoke the truth; therefore follow the religion of Abraham,
the pure natural creed (of Monotheism) and he was never of those
who associate others with God's divinity. |
|
96- |
Indeed the first
House (of community worship) that was established for mankind
was that at Baca 16
(dialect old name for Mecca), which was blessed and has been a
place of guidance for all people. |
|
97- |
In it there are
evident signs, such as the station of Abraham and whoever enters
it, will be secure.
And the performance of Hajj (pilgrimage) at the House (Kaaba at
Mecca) is a duty on people towards God,
for all those who can afford the Journey to it (Mecca).
And whoever rejects (the pilgrimage, should know that) God is
Absolutely Independent (in no need),
of all the people of the world. 17 |
|
98- |
Say: "O' people of
Scripture (Jews and Christians).
Why do you reject the Verses of God, while God is Witness and
Observer of all that you do." |
|
99- |
Say: "O' people of
the Scripture, Why do you stop people who have come to believe
(in Quran),
from the Way of God, seeking to make it appear crooked and
incorrect?
While you are witness (to its truth, by referring carefully to
your own Scriptures).
And God is not unaware of what you are doing. |
|
100- |
O, you who believe,
if you obey a group of those who were given the Scripture (the
Jews and the Christians),
they would practically turn you into deniers of the faith, after
your belief. |
|
101- |
And how would you
disbelieve, while the Verses of Revelations of God are being
read unto you
and His Messenger is among you?
And whoever holds firmly to God, then he is truly guided to the
right way of life. |
|
102- |
O' you who believe,
be conscious and in awe of God,
with all the consciousness and awe that is due to Him,
and do not die, except as Muslims (in state of total submission
to God). |
|
103- |
And hold firmly to
the Rope of God (the Quran which is the spiritual connection to
God), all together,
and don't get separated from each other (by different sects)
and remember the Favor of God on you, as you were enemies of
each other but He joined your hearts together,
so that by His Grace, you became as bothers (in Faith), and you
were at the edge of a fire-pit
and He saved you from (falling into) it.
Thus does God explain for you His Verses and lessons of
Revelations, so that you may become guided. |
|
104- |
From you, there
should become a nation, who invites to goodness and orders for
justice and fairness
and forbids wrongdoing.
And such people shall be successful and happy.
19 |
|
105- |
And don't be like
those (of previous Scriptures) who separated and differed (in
their beliefs),
after clear signs (of clarifications) had come to them and those
are the ones to have great suffering. |
|
106- |
On the Day (of
Resurrection), some faces will turn white and shiny and some
faces darken black,
(to them will be said): "Did you reject faith after your
acceptance?
Then taste the suffering because of your denying the truth."
|
|
107- |
And as for those
whose faces turn white shiny, by light of Guidance,
they will be in the Mercy of God, they will stay in that state
forever. |
|
108- |
These are the verses
of Revelations of God that We read to you in truth,
and God has no intention of any injustice to people |
|
109- |
And to God belongs
all that is in heavens
and all that is on earth
and all matters ultimately go back to
God ('s decision) |
|
110- |
You (true Muslims),
are the best of people ever raised up for the sake of mankind,
since you enjoin (demand firmly) for fairness and forbid from
evildoing and you really believe in God.
And had the people of Scripture (Jews and Christians)
also believed, it would have been better for them.
Among them, some are believers, but most of them are disobedient
(to God's commandments). |
|
111- |
They shall never
harm you except for some annoyance
and if they fight against you, they will turn their back on you
(fleeing) and they will not be aided. |
|
112- |
Disgrace is branded
on them (the quarrelsome Jews and Christians) where ever they
are found,
except when they would hold unto a promising connection to God's
Commandments
and good relationship with people (of the world);
they have nonetheless earned a condemnation and fury upon
themselves from God
and they are inflicted with humiliation.
This has been as results of their rejecting God's Verses
(lessons of behavior)
and that they killed the prophets without any right.
Yes, this has been because they rebelled and kept on
transgressing (the limits of God) and for being aggressive.
20 |
|
113- |
Not all of them are
alike; there are many, of the people of Scripture (such as Jews and
Christians),
who stand for the right cause, they recite the Verses of God
during the hours of the night,
prostrating themselves in prayer. |
|
114- |
They believe in God
and the Last Day (of Judgment),
they enjoin (others) to fairness and forbid from evildoing
and strive and compete in doing good deeds and they are among
the righteous people. |
|
115- |
And whatever good
they do, nothing will be denied of their deeds, as God is
Well-Aware of the pious people. |
|
116- |
Those who reject
Faith (in God), certainly neither their properties nor their
children
won't ward them off from God's punishment and those are
the inhabitants (dwellers) of the fire,
in which they remain
forever. |
|
117- |
The likeness of that
which they spend in this world (not in the cause of God, but for
wrong agendas),
is like a bitter cold wind that struck the
harvest of a people who did injustice to themselves, then it
destroyed it (the harvest).
God did not them any wrong, but they
have been doing wrong to themselves (by spending in wrong
causes,
causing harm to society, such as investing in gambling,
intoxicants or investing in aggressions etc.) |
|
118- |
O' you who believe,
don't take as advisors-protectors-intimate friends, outside of
your religion,
since they will not fail to betray you, they
desire to harm you.
Hatred has already appeared (has been mentioned)
from their mouths,
but what their chests (inside feelings)
hide, is far greater (in hatred).
Certainly We have explained to you the lessons clearly,
if you would think and use your reason, you will understand. |
|
119- |
Look you (Muslims)
are the ones who love them, but they don't love you
and you believe
in all Scripture (but they don't believe in the Quran).
And when
they meet you, they would say: "We believe."
But when they are
alone to themselves, they bite the tips of their finger out of
rage over you.
Say: "Go on die by your rage."
God is All-Aware
of what is deep inside the people's chests (their minds). |
|
120- |
If any good reaches
you, it makes them unhappy and sad and if some hardship or evil
strikes you, they rejoice.
But if you remain patient (in hard
times) and pious, their secret plots cannot harm you at all.
Surely God's Knowledge encompasses (oversees) all what they do. |
|
121- |
And remember (O'
Muhammad) when you left your household in the early morning,
to
post the believers at their stations for the (defensive) battle
(of Hud),
God is All-Hearer,
All-Knowing (of all your actions). |
|
122- |
And when two
parties of you were about to lose heart, but God has been their
Protector-Supporter.
And in God should the believers trust. |
|
123- |
And (remember that)
indeed God had already helped you win the (defensive) battle of
Badr
and you were a weak little force.
So fear from disobeying
God's Commands,
so that (by trust in God, patience and strong
will, you succeed and) you then be grateful. |
|
124- |
(Remember)
when you (Muhammad) told the believers:
"Is it not enough for your protection that your Lord helps you
with the aid of three thousand angels sent down?"
|
|
125- |
Yes, if you keep
steady patience and remain God-conscious and pious,
even when the enemies come rushing at you,
in this case, your Lord will help you with five thousand angels,
all swooping down (to help you). |
|
126- |
God made this good
news only as an encouragement for you to reassure your hearts.
And of course, there is no victory except from God, the
All-Mighty, All-Wise. |
|
127- |
So that He would cut
off a part (of the army) of those who disbelieve
or put them down and as a result, they would retreat frustrated. |
|
128- |
It is not for you
(Muhammad) to decide;
whether He (God) turns in Mercy on them or punishes them (it is
up to Him), as they are oppressors. |
|
129- |
And to God belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is
in earth.
He forgives whom He wants and punishes whom He wants, as God is
Very Forgiving, Most Merciful. |
|
130- |
O' you who believe, do not consume or eat
usury, doubled or multiplied and fear disobeying God,
so that you
might be happy and successful. |
|
131- |
And fear and avoid the Fire, which is
prepared for the disbelievers. |
|
132- |
And obey God and the Messenger (Muhammad), so
that you may be blessed. |
|
133- |
And quickly arrange and correct your life in
the way (to be eligible) for forgiveness from your Lord
and (to be eligible) for the Garden of Paradise, which is as
wide as the heavens and the earth,
prepared for the pious, God-conscious people; |
|
134- |
Those who spend (in the cause of God) in good
times and in hard times, who control anger,
and who forgive
people and of course God loves such people who do good. |
|
135- |
And those who when they committed promiscuity
(unmarried sex) or wronged their personality (otherwise),
remember God, so they ask forgiveness for their sins.
And who can forgive sins except God?
But then they do not persist
(continue) in what wrong they had done before, knowing (that it was
wrong). |
|
136- |
For such people, their reward is Forgiveness
from their Lord and Gardens (of Paradise)
with streams flowing down there, they will remain in there
forever
and how excellent is
the reward of the achievers (of good deeds). |
|
137- |
Before your time, different ways of outcome
(of Wars and battles) occurred on nations.
So go travel and look and study on the earth
and see how was the final end of those
who claimed the words of God were lies (and disbelieved). |
|
138- |
This (The Quran) is a plain statement for
mankind
and it is a guidance and advice for people who are God-conscious,
pious. |
|
139- |
So don't lose heart, don't give up and don't
be sad,
and you will have the upper hand and be superior, if you
really believe. |
|
140- |
If a wound injured you, surely a similar
wound has befallen others.
And such days (of good and hard
times), We bring about among people, in varying degrees, by
turn,
so that God makes known those are the true
believers and accepts from among you (with their lives),
as the
martyr-witnesses (to the Truth).
And God does not like the wrong
doers.
|
|
|
141- |
And that way God may purify (of previous
shortcomings) all those who have believed
and He may destroy the
disbelievers (who keep on attacking Muslims). |
|
|
142- |
Did you imagine that you (Muslims) just enter
Garden (of Paradise),
and that God would not test and make known as to
who fought valiantly among you
and would not test and make known
those who remained steadfastly patient? |
|
143- |
You indeed wished death before you met it (in the defensive battle of Uhud).
Now that you have seen it, you are looking (at scene of battle) |
|
144- |
And Muhammad is none other than a Messenger
and indeed many Messengers passed away before him.
So if he dies
or if he is killed, then would you really turn back on your heels (and
flee)?
And (know that) whoever turns back an his heels and retreats, he
would not do any harm to God,
and He will reward those
who are grateful (to God and perform the duty of defense).
|
|
145- |
No person will die except by the Permission
of God, at an
appointed term as written.
And whoever desires reward in this
world, We shall give him of it,
and whoever desires reward in
the Hereafter, We shall give him thereof,
and We shall soon
reward those who are grateful. |
|
146- |
And how many prophets along side with whom,
so many God-devoted men had fought (in the cause of God),
but they did not lose courage for what hit them in the cause
of God
and they did not weaken nor did they demean or lower
themselves (in front of the enemy).
And God loves the steadfast patient persons. |
|
147- |
And they did not say anything but: "Our Lord,
forgive us
our sins
and our (possible) excesses in doing our duties and
please establish our feet firmly
and help us to prevail over the
disbelieving army." |
|
148- |
So God gave them reward of this world and the
goodness of the reward of the Hereafter
and God loves those who
do good works. |
|
149- |
O you who believe, if you obey those who
disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels (back to
disbelief),
then you would turn into being losers. |
|
150- |
But (don't obey them and know that) God is
your Guardian and He is the Best of helpers. |
|
151- |
We shall soon cast anxiety and fear in the
hearts of those who disbelieve,
because they assumed and joined other beings in worship with
God, for which He sent no permission or authority,
and their home will be Fire.
And how evil is the stand of those who
do wrong and injustice
(to themselves and others by worshipping
others besides God.) |
|
152- |
Indeed God did fulfill His Promise of Help to
you
when you with His Permission were destroying them (your
attacking enemies in the battle of Uhud),
until you lost your
strength by disputing about the affair (of war booties)
and you
disobeyed (the prophet's orders to finish up the job in defense)
after He brought you to
(the degree of success in) sight of what
you love (of the booties!).
Among you there are some who desire this
world ('s belongings),
and among you there are others who aim their
actions for the Hereafter.
Then God let you away from chasing them
(your enemies) to test you.
But He forgave you as God has
special Grace for the believers. |
|
153- |
Remember when you were fleeing up the hills
and not glancing even at anyone
while the Messenger (Muhammad) was
in your rear, calling you back!
Therefore God gave you distress
after distress (to teach you) so that you would not be sad for loss of the booties,
nor for damages which had befallen you.
And God is All-Aware of
all that you do. |
|
154- |
Then after the distress, He sent down calm on
you, a slumber which overtook a group of you,
while another group who
cared for themselves (only), were having suspicious thoughts
about
God,
without having any reason, due to their ignorance.
They say: "Do
we have any part in decision making?"
Say: "All decisions about
the affair (of war) belong to God".
They hide in themselves
what they don't dare reveal to you.
They say: "If we had any
part in making decision, none of us would have been killed
here."
Say: "Even if you were at your homes, those on whom death
was decreed,
would certainly have gone to the places of their
being killed
and this way God tests what is in your chest (minds)
and to
purge and cleanse that which is in your heart (of sins and wrong
thoughts)
and God is All-Knower of what is inside your chests (minds)." |
|
|
155- |
Those of you who turned back (from enemy)
and
fled on the day of confrontation of the two armies (at the
battle of Uhud);
indeed it was Satan who caused them to
backslide, because of some sins that they had committed
(caring
for war booties, rather than aiming for victory).
But God,
indeed has forgiven them, as God is Very Forgiving, Very
Tolerant. |
|
156- |
O' you who believe, do not be like those who
disbelieve (the hypocrites)
and they said about their brothers;
as they went to travel in the land or go out to fight:
"If they
had stayed with us, they would not have died and would not have
been killed".
So God makes this kind of thought a cause of
sorrow and regret in their hearts.
God is the One, Who gives life
and death and God is All-Observer of what you do. |
|
157- |
And if you are killed or die in the Cause of
God,
of course Forgiveness and Mercy from God is better than
what they (the disbelievers) gather (in worldly belongings). |
|
158- |
And whether you die or get killed (in the way
of God).
Of course you all shall be gathered to God. |
|
159- |
And it is by the Mercy of God that you (Muhammad)
are gentle to them (Muslims).
And if you were severe and
harsh-minded, they would surely had dispersed from about you,
so forgive them and ask (God's) Forgiveness for them and consult
with them in the
affair (of war and peace decisions) .
Then when you have made a decision, then trust in God.
Certainly, God loves those who trust in Him. |
|
160- |
If God helps you, no one can overcome you and
if He lets you down, then who can help you after that?
And in God
should the believers put their trust. |
|
161- |
It is not for any prophet to take illegally
part of the booty
and whosoever deceives his companions
(regarding booties),
he shall bring forth on the Day of
Resurrection that which he took illegally.
Then each person shall be paid in full for whatever that person earned and they won't be dealt
unjustly. |
|
162- |
Is then somebody who follows the way of seeking
God's Acceptance, (not gathering anything illegally),
is like
the one who has brought on himself a wrath from God? (by taking
things illegally)
and his home shall be Hell and what a dreadful
destination it is! |
|
163- |
They (people) are in various degrees of
standing in Sight of God
and God is All-Observer of what they
achieve. |
|
164- |
Truly God made a great Favor on the believers
when He raised the Messenger from among themselves,
who reads His
Verses (Lessons) to them and purifies them (from sinful habits)
and teaches them the Book (the Quran) and the wisdom (of how to
think and act correctly),
while beforehand they were in obvious
error. |
|
165- |
When a hardship and disaster hit you (in the
battle of Uhud),
indeed although you had inflicted twice as hard
(on your enemies, in the battle of Badr),
you said: "from where
did this (disaster hit us)?"
Say (to them): "It is from your own
neglect
(as you left the guard stations, too soon, to collect
war booties, then the enemy struck at you)".
And God is powerful
over all things. |
|
166- |
And whatever suffering hit you on the day of
confrontation of the two armies (yours and the enemy's),
was by
the Permission of God, (since you neglected your posts and got hit)
and this way He tests the believers, (so that they learn to know
the consequences of neglect of duties). |
|
167- |
And He tests the hypocrites, as it was said
to them: "Come, fight in the way of God or at least defend
yourselves."
They responded: "If we knew how to fight, we would have followed you."
They were on that day closer to disbelief
than to Faith,
saying with their mouth, something that was not
in their hearts and God knows best what they conceal. |
|
168- |
They are the ones who sat in their houses and said about their
martyred brothers:
"If they had listened to us and obeyed us, they would not
have been killed."
Say to them: "Try then to keep death away
from yourselves if you are truthful (in keeping death away)." |
|
169- |
Do not think of those who are killed in the
Cause of God as "dead".
No, they are alive, by their Lord, being
blessed nicely. |
|
170- |
They are happy and enjoying on what God gave
them of His Favor
and they are also happy in advance for those
who have not joined them yet (as martyrs) and are left behind,
that there shall be no fear on them, nor shall they be sad. |
|
171- |
They are happy that they will continue to
have Blessing from God and special Favor
and that of course God does
not spoil the reward of the believers. |
|
172- |
Those who answered the call of God and the
Messenger even after they received wounds and injuries,
for
those of them who did good works and were God-conscious, there
shall be a great reward. |
|
173- |
Those (faithful believers) who were told by
people (the hypocrites):
"Beware that the people (pagan enemies)
have gathered to attack you again, so have fear of them."
But it only increased their strong faith and they said (in
response):
"God is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best
Defender-Protector". |
|
174- |
(After counterattack,) then they returned
with Blessing and Bounty from God.
No harm touched them and they
followed with seeking the Acceptance of God,
as God is the
Holder of Great favor.
21 |
|
175- |
This is in fact Satan that scares you of his
supporter-friends (the pagans).
So don't fear those, but fear
disobeying Me, if you are true believers. |
|
176- |
And don't let those who make rush actions in disbelief,
sadden you (O' Muhammad),
not the least harm will they do to
God.
God intends not to allow them any portion (of happiness) in
the Hereafter
and for them, there will be great suffering (by
their behavior and the resulting everlasting regret). |
|
177- |
Indeed, those who exchanged (bought) disbelief
at the price of Faith,
not the least harm they do to God (but
they are harming and depriving themselves)
and there shall be a
painful (regretful) suffering for them. |
|
178- |
And the disbelievers should not think that
Our postponing their punishment, is good for them.
(on the
contrary,) We postpone the punishment, so in that way they increase
their sinfulness
and there shall be a (more) disgracing
punishment for them |
|
179- |
God will not leave the believers in the state
in which you are right now,
until He makes known and recognizable
the wicked ones away from the good ones.
And God did not intend
to make you become aware of all the secrets of the unseen world,
but God chooses of His Messengers whom He wants (to teach him some
of the secrets).
Therefore believe in God and His Messengers
And if you believe and remain God-conscious in
your life, then there will be great reward for you. |
|
180- |
And those who withhold and refrain greedily
from giving of the wealth that God gave them (in the cause of
God),
should not think that this behavior is to their advantage, but
instead it is harmful to them.
On the Day Resurrection,
those wealth items that they craved and withheld (from Zakat to
the poor),
will be tied to their neck like a collar burden.
And
to God belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth and God
is Well-Acquainted with all that you do. |
|
181- |
Certainly God heard the statement of those
(Jews in Medina) who said:
"God is indeed poor and we are rich
(because He asks us to give of our wealth to the poor)."
We shall
record what they said and because of their killing of prophets, without any
right,
We shall say: "Now taste the punishment of the
burning (in Hellfire)". |
|
182- |
This is the result of the evil behavior you sent ahead (of your
coming here).
And certainly God is not at all unjust to
His servants |
|
183- |
Those same people said: " Indeed God took our
promise that we should not believe in any Messenger
unless he
brings to us an offering (sacrifice), that will be consumed by a
fire (from lightning)."
Say (in response): "Indeed there did
come Messengers before me to you with obvious signs and miracles
and
even with the miracle sign that you mentioned;
why then did you
(people with your attitude) kill them, if you really mean it?" |
|
184- |
Then if they reject you (Muhammad) as a
liar,
so were rejected Messengers before you, who came with clear
signs
and the Scriptures and the illuminating Book (the Torah). |
|
185- |
Every person shall feel (taste) the process
of death
and on the Day of Resurrection, you shall be paid your
earnings (of your deeds of the world) in full.
And whoever is
saved from Hellfire and admitted to enter the Paradise, he or
she indeed has succeeded.
The life of this world is but only a testing ground, deceiving. |
|
186- |
You shall certainly be tested by your wealth,
properties and by yourselves
and you will hear much annoying
words from those who were given Scripture before you (The Jews
and the Christians)
and from those who associate partners to God;
but if you remain steadfast-patient
and God-conscious, then that
attitude will be the determining factor in all your affairs |
|
187- |
(Remember) when God took a covenant from
those (knowledgeable people)
who were previously given the
Scripture (Jews and Christians) to explain its content to people
and not to hide (the news of the coming of the prophet
Muhammad),
but they threw it away behind their backs (ignoring
it)
and gave it away to buy with it some little worldly gain
(illusory status as rabbis and priests).
And how awful really is
what they bargained for! |
|
188- |
Do not think any good of those who are happy
and celebrate for the wrongs that have created
and they even
love to be praised for something good that they did not do;
so,
don't think that they will be immune or saved from punishment,
and they will get a painful suffering. |
|
189- |
And (be reminded that) to God belongs the
dominion of the heavens and the earth
and God has Mastery and
Power over all things. |
|
190- |
Indeed, in the creation of the havens and the
earth
and the alternation and changes of night and day, there
are indeed signs (of His Majesty) for people of wisdom! |
|
191- |
Those same (people of wisdom) who remember
God, while standing or sitting or lying on their sides
and think about the
creation of the heavens and the earth,
(they will come to the conclusion,
saying:) "Our Lord, You have not created all this for no reason
or purpose.
Glory to you who are above all, please save us
from the Fire". |
|
192- |
"Our Lord, certainly whomever You make enter
the Fire, indeed You disgraced him
and the
wrong doing unjust people, will have no helpers." |
|
193- |
"Our Lord, indeed we heard the caller for
Faith (Muhammad) who was calling: "Believe in your Lord",
so we
have believed.
Our Lord, then forgive us our sins and wipe off
our bad deeds
and take our souls to yourself in the company of
the good ones." |
|
194- |
"Our Lord, grant us what you promised us
through your Messengers
and do not put us down, disgraced on the
Day of Resurrection, as You never break the promise". |
|
195- |
So, their Lord accepted their prayers
(by answering):
"Never will I spoil the good work and behavior of any
of you be it from a male or from a female.
You are created from
each other (and brought up by each other).
So, those who emigrated and they were forced out of their
homeland and were harmed in My Cause,
and fought and were killed (in My
cause),
I certainly shall blot off from them their previous bad
deeds
and I shall certainly admit them into the Gardens of
Paradise, down where rivers flow;
as a reward from God.
And
by God are the best of rewards." |
|
196- |
Let not the prosperous activity of the
disbelievers throughout the lands, deceive you. |
|
197- |
That is a brief and little enjoyment (in this
world); their ultimate homecoming is to Hell
and what an awful
resting place to come to. |
|
198- |
But on the contrary, for those who were
conscious in awe of their Lord,
there shall be for them,
Gardens, below which, streams and rivers flow, they will remain
in that state forever,
a reception by God.
And of course what
comes from God, is best appreciated by the good people. |
|
199- |
And certainly among the people of Scripture
(The Jews and the Christians),
there are those who believe in
the One God and in the Revelations which were revealed to you
and
that which was revealed to them,
humbling themselves to God, not
selling the Verses of God for little worldly gains.
For those people, their
rewards are with their Lord.
Surely God is Swift in reckoning. |
|
200- |
O you who believe, be patient and keep your
endurance and keep in communication
(with fellow Muslims and
defenders of Islam) and be ever conscious of God,
so that you
become successful and happy. |
Refers to the Command Word of God for the virgin conception of
Jesus later on. John was born six months before his cousin Jesus
and was the first to confirm Jesus as the prophet of God, and
urged people to follow him.
To argue about establishing truth away from falsehood.
12
"Thou shall not steal"
But history is repeating with aggressions and transgressions and
stealing from other lands.
14
Painful regretful torment, but regret then is too late.
15
Refers to Christians and others who took Jesus or other servants
of God as gods.
19
Without social participation for justice, fairness and goodness,
a nation will not be successful and happy.
20
Read and deliberate on the history of Jews and Christians, the
Exodus with severe humiliation, the crusades with severe
humiliation and defeats, the Middle
Ages atrocities of the Christian Church in Europe against their
own people. World war I and II, the Holocaust etc. The
Palestinian occupation and merciless killings and aggressions
even going on now .
21
After leaving Medina, after the battle of Uhud, in which Muslims
lost many, the pagans decided to regroup and attack again. But
after they heard that even the wounded Muslims are coming after
them, they fled, leaving
war booties.
