Translation of the Holy Quran by Dr. Gilani

 

The Women  - Chapter 4                 |                                     Contains 176 verses – Medina 

 بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

 

In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُواْ رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالًا كَثِيرًا
      وَنِسَاء وَاتَّقُواْ اللّهَ الَّذِي تَسَاءلُونَ بِهِ وَالأَرْحَامَ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا
 

 

1-

O people, become ever aware of your Lord, Who created you from one single prototype (person)     1
and created its mate from the same design and from those two (design-specimens, from both of them),
He then spread out, many men and women;
and be conscious of God as you ask each other about something by His Name
and be careful regarding the womb (blood-) relatives.
Surely God is ever Watchful over you.

وَآتُواْ الْيَتَامَى أَمْوَالَهُمْ وَلاَ تَتَبَدَّلُواْ الْخَبِيثَ بِالطَّيِّبِ وَلاَ تَأْكُلُواْ أَمْوَالَهُمْ إِلَى أَمْوَالِكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ حُوبًا كَبِيرًا

 

2-

And give to the orphans, their properties (when they reach adulthood)
and do not exchange your bad things with their good items
and do not consume of their properties by adding to your properties, as it is surely a great crime.  

 وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلاَّ تُقْسِطُواْ فِي الْيَتَامَى فَانكِحُواْ مَا طَابَ لَكُم مِّنَ النِّسَاء مَثْنَى وَثُلاَثَ
      وَرُبَاعَ فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلاَّ تَعْدِلُواْ فَوَاحِدَةً أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ ذَلِكَ أَدْنَى أَلاَّ تَعُولُواْ
 

 

3-

And in the case of orphans, if you fear that you can not manage them fairly,       2
then marry two, three or four women of your choice (to care for them).             3
But if you fear that you won't treat them justly and right,
then marry only one woman or marry of the (captive) women, on whom your right hands have authority over
(for whom you have taken responsibility to care for by your own hands and labor).
This way is better so that you won't do injustice.    

وَآتُواْ النَّسَاء صَدُقَاتِهِنَّ نِحْلَةً فَإِن طِبْنَ لَكُمْ عَن شَيْءٍ مِّنْهُ نَفْسًا فَكُلُوهُ هَنِيئًا مَّرِيئًا.

 

4-

And do give to the women (whom you marry) their obligatory bridal gifts with pleasure and goodwill,
but if they decide of their own to give you back part of it personally, then accept and enjoy it with pleasure.

وَلاَ تُؤْتُواْ السُّفَهَاء أَمْوَالَكُمُ الَّتِي جَعَلَ اللّهُ لَكُمْ قِيَامًا وَارْزُقُوهُمْ فِيهَا وَاكْسُوهُمْ وَقُولُواْ لَهُمْ قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوفًا

 

5-

And do not put your properties that God put at your disposal for taking care of the needs,
to foolish (retarded) people (as they will waste it),
but do feed and clothe them with that fund and speak to them with kind and nice words.

وَابْتَلُواْ الْيَتَامَى حَتَّىَ إِذَا بَلَغُواْ النِّكَاحَ فَإِنْ آنَسْتُم مِّنْهُمْ رُشْدًا فَادْفَعُواْ
إِلَيْهِمْ أَمْوَالَهُمْ وَلاَ تَأْكُلُوهَا إِسْرَافًا وَبِدَارًا أَن يَكْبَرُواْ وَمَن كَانَ غَنِيًّا فَلْيَسْتَعْفِفْ
وَمَن كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ فَإِذَا دَفَعْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فَأَشْهِدُواْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ حَسِيبًا

 

6-

And test orphans (regarding their intelligence and maturity) until they reach the age of marriage;
then if you find sound judgment in them, then deliver their (inheritance) properties to them
and do not consume it wastefully and hastily, thinking they would grow up (fast and get it back from your custody),
and whoever (among the guardians of the orphans) is rich, should not take any wages and should wave it.
And if the guardian is poor, then let him have a fair and reasonable wage to consume (for his labor and efforts).
And when you deliver their (inheritance) properties, have witness to them,
and God is of course Sufficient as Reckoner.

لِّلرِّجَالِ نَصيِبٌ مِّمَّا تَرَكَ الْوَالِدَانِ وَالأَقْرَبُونَ وَلِلنِّسَاء نَصِيبٌ
مِّمَّا تَرَكَ الْوَالِدَانِ وَالأَقْرَبُونَ مِمَّا قَلَّ مِنْهُ أَوْ كَثُرَ نَصِيبًا مَّفْرُوضًا

 

7-

There is a share for men and a share for women for what is left by their parents and close relatives,
whether the property is small or large, there is a legal share (for them).

وَإِذَا حَضَرَ الْقِسْمَةَ أُوْلُواْ الْقُرْبَى وَالْيَتَامَى وَالْمَسَاكِينُ فَارْزُقُوهُم مِّنْهُ وَقُولُواْ لَهُمْ قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوفًا

 

8-

And when close relatives and orphans and the poor are (also) present at the distribution, give of that inheritance to them
and speak to them with words of kindness and fairness

وَلْيَخْشَ الَّذِينَ لَوْ تَرَكُواْ مِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّةً ضِعَافًا خَافُواْ عَلَيْهِمْ فَلْيَتَّقُوا اللّهَ وَلْيَقُولُواْ قَوْلًا سَدِيدًا

 

9-

And those (executors and guardians) should fear the same way for people
as if they had left behind weak (helpless) offsprings and would have been fearful for their outcome;
therefore they should fear God and should speak the right words.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَأْكُلُونَ أَمْوَالَ الْيَتَامَى ظُلْمًا إِنَّمَا يَأْكُلُونَ فِي بُطُونِهِمْ نَارًا وَسَيَصْلَوْنَ سَعِيرًا

 

10-

Certainly those who unjustly eat up the properties of the orphans, they are indeed putting fire in their bellies
and they will soon enter the Blazing Fire.

يُوصِيكُمُ اللّهُ فِي أَوْلاَدِكُمْ لِلذَّكَرِ مِثْلُ حَظِّ الأُنثَيَيْنِ فَإِن كُنَّ نِسَاء فَوْقَ اثْنَتَيْنِ فَلَهُنَّ ثُلُثَا مَا تَرَكَ وَإِن كَانَتْ وَاحِدَةً فَلَهَا النِّصْفُ
وَلأَبَوَيْهِ لِكُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِّنْهُمَا السُّدُسُ مِمَّا تَرَكَ إِن كَانَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ فَإِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّهُ وَلَدٌ وَوَرِثَهُ أَبَوَاهُ فَلأُمِّهِ الثُّلُثُ فَإِن كَانَ لَهُ إِخْوَةٌ فَلأُمِّهِ السُّدُسُ
مِن بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصِي بِهَا أَوْ دَيْنٍ آبَآؤُكُمْ وَأَبناؤُكُمْ لاَ تَدْرُونَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ لَكُمْ نَفْعًا فَرِيضَةً مِّنَ اللّهِ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَلِيما حَكِيمًا

 

11-

God commands you in regards to your children:
the inheritance for the male, to be equal of the portion of two females
and if there are daughters, more than two, their share is two-third of the inheritance left.
And if there is only one daughter, her share shall be half.
As for parents, for each parent shall be a sixth of that is left, if the deceased person has left any child
and if he did not leave any child and the parents are the only heirs, then the mother has a third.
If the deceased left brothers (or sisters), then the mother has one sixth,
(all these distributions) should be after payment of any legacy or any debt.
As for your parents and children, you do not know which one of them is more deserving in benefit from you.
This is (therefore) an ordinance from God.
Indeed God is All-knowing, All-wise.

وَلَكُمْ نِصْفُ مَا تَرَكَ أَزْوَاجُكُمْ إِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّهُنَّ وَلَدٌ فَإِن كَانَ لَهُنَّ وَلَدٌ فَلَكُمُ الرُّبُعُ مِمَّا تَرَكْنَ مِن بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصِينَ بِهَا أَوْ دَيْنٍ
وَلَهُنَّ الرُّبُعُ مِمَّا تَرَكْتُمْ إِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّكُمْ وَلَدٌ فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ وَلَدٌ فَلَهُنَّ الثُّمُنُ مِمَّا تَرَكْتُم مِّن بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ تُوصُونَ بِهَا أَوْ دَيْنٍ
وَإِن كَانَ رَجُلٌ يُورَثُ كَلاَلَةً أَو امْرَأَةٌ وَلَهُ أَخٌ أَوْ أُخْتٌ فَلِكُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِّنْهُمَا السُّدُسُ فَإِن كَانُوَاْ أَكْثَرَ مِن ذَلِكَ فَهُمْ شُرَكَاء
فِي الثُّلُثِ مِن بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصَى بِهَآ أَوْ دَيْنٍ غَيْرَ مُضَآرٍّ وَصِيَّةً مِّنَ اللّهِ وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَلِيمٌ

 

12-

Also your share is half of what your wife would leave, if she has no children,
but if she leaves a child, you get a fourth of what she leaves after payment of any legacy she left or any debt.
From what you leave, her share is one fourth, if you leave no children,
but if you leave a child, then she will get an eighth of what you left,
after payment of any legacy that you left or any debt.
If a man or a woman whose inheritance is question, has left neither ascendants nor descendents,
but has left a brother or a sister, each one of the two gets a sixth but if they are more than that, together they share one third,
after payment of any legacy he or she may have left or any debt, without loss (to anyone).
This is a Commandment from God and God is All-Knowing, Most Forbearing.

تِلْكَ حُدُودُ اللّهِ وَمَن يُطِعِ اللّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ يُدْخِلْهُ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا وَذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ

 

13-

These are the limits set by God (regarding inheritance)
and whoever obeys God and His Messenger (Muhammad), God will admit him into Gardens (of paradise),
below which streams and rivers flow, to stay in there forever and that is the real great success and achievement.

وَمَن يَعْصِ اللّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَهُ يُدْخِلْهُ نَارًا خَالِدًا فِيهَا وَلَهُ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ.

 

14-

And whoever disobeys God and His Messenger and violates His Limits,
He will make him enter into a Fire in which he will be forever and will have a humiliating suffering.

وَاللاَّتِي يَأْتِينَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مِن نِّسَآئِكُمْ فَاسْتَشْهِدُواْ عَلَيْهِنَّ أَرْبَعةً مِّنكُمْ فَإِن
شَهِدُواْ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ فِي الْبُيُوتِ حَتَّىَ يَتَوَفَّاهُنَّ الْمَوْتُ أَوْ يَجْعَلَ اللّهُ لَهُنَّ سَبِيلًا

 

15-

And as to those women of your society who commit unlawful sexual relation,
take four witnesses from amongst you against them,
and if they all testify (to that effect), confine those women to the houses until death takes them away
or when God ordains another way for them (by another, future decree).    4

وَاللَّذَانَ يَأْتِيَانِهَا مِنكُمْ فَآذُوهُمَا فَإِن تَابَا وَأَصْلَحَا فَأَعْرِضُواْ عَنْهُمَا إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ تَوَّابًا رَّحِيمًا

 

16-

And do blame and verbally abuse both of the two person (two men) of your society who commit unlawful sexual relation.
And if they repent and correct themselves and behave themselves, then leave both of them alone.
Surely God is Very Repentance-Accepter, Most Merciful to good people.

إِنَّمَا التَّوْبَةُ عَلَى اللّهِ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ السُّوَءَ بِجَهَالَةٍ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُونَ مِن قَرِيبٍ فَأُوْلَئِكَ يَتُوبُ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

 

17-

God accept only the regret and repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and repent soon afterwards;
it is those whom God will forgive and God is the All-Knowing, All-wise.

وَلَيْسَتِ التَّوْبَةُ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ حَتَّى إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَهُمُ الْمَوْتُ
قَالَ إِنِّي تُبْتُ الآنَ وَلاَ الَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ أُوْلَئِكَ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

 

18-

There is no acceptance of repentance for those who do evil acts till death faces any of them
and he says: "Now I repent.",
nor for those who die while they still deny Faith and are disbelievers.
For them, We have prepared a painful great suffering .

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ لاَ يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَن تَرِثُواْ النِّسَاء كَرْهًا وَلاَ تَعْضُلُوهُنَّ لِتَذْهَبُواْ بِبَعْضِ مَا آتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ إِلاَّ أَن يَأْتِينَ بِفَاحِشَةٍ مُّبَيِّنَةٍ
وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ فَإِن كَرِهْتُمُوهُنَّ فَعَسَى أَن تَكْرَهُواْ شَيْئًا وَيَجْعَلَ اللّهُ فِيهِ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا

 

19-

O you who believe, you are not allowed to inherit women's property against their will
and you should not treat them with harshness to make them give away part of their dowry gifts that you gave them,
unless they commit clearly proven unlawful sexual relation.
And accompany and treat them with honor and fairness.
If you dislike them, (be reminded that) then it maybe that you dislike something and
yet God has placed a great amount of goodness in it.

وَإِنْ أَرَدتُّمُ اسْتِبْدَالَ زَوْجٍ مَّكَانَ زَوْجٍ وَآتَيْتُمْ إِحْدَاهُنَّ قِنطَارًا فَلاَ تَأْخُذُواْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا أَتَأْخُذُونَهُ بُهْتَانًا وَإِثْمًا مُّبِينًا

 

20-

But if you intend to substitute a spouse by another and you had given the one of them
a heap (large amount) of treasure and wealth, don't take a bit of it back.
Are you trying to take it back by false accusation and by committing an evident sin.

وَكَيْفَ تَأْخُذُونَهُ وَقَدْ أَفْضَى بَعْضُكُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ وَأَخَذْنَ مِنكُم مِّيثَاقًا غَلِيظًا

 

21-

And how could you take it away considering the fact that you had given yourselves to each another sexually 
and they had taken a solemn pledge from you (at the time of wedding to care for them).

وَلاَ تَنكِحُواْ مَا نَكَحَ آبَاؤُكُم مِّنَ النِّسَاء إِلاَّ مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَاحِشَةً وَمَقْتًا وَسَاء سَبِيلًا

 

22-

And do not marry any women whom your father had married, unless this marriage happened before this decree;
since it (this custom before the coming of Muhammad) was a shameful, hateful and an evil way.

حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أُمَّهَاتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُكُمْ وَأَخَوَاتُكُمْ وَعَمَّاتُكُمْ وَخَالاَتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُ الأَخِ وَبَنَاتُ الأُخْتِ وَأُمَّهَاتُكُمُ اللاَّتِي
أَرْضَعْنَكُمْ وَأَخَوَاتُكُم مِّنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ وَأُمَّهَاتُ نِسَآئِكُمْ وَرَبَائِبُكُمُ اللاَّتِي فِي حُجُورِكُم مِّن نِّسَآئِكُمُ اللاَّتِي دَخَلْتُم بِهِنَّ فَإِن لَّمْ تَكُونُواْ
دَخَلْتُم بِهِنَّ فَلاَ جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَحَلاَئِلُ أَبْنَائِكُمُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ أَصْلاَبِكُمْ وَأَن تَجْمَعُواْ بَيْنَ الأُخْتَيْنِ إَلاَّ مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

 

23-

Forbidden to you is (to marry):
your mother,
your daughters,
your sisters,
your father's sisters,
your mother's sisters,
your brothers' daughters,
your sisters' daughters,
your foster mother who nursed you,
your foster-milk sisters,
your wife's mother,
your step-daughters under your guardianship, born of your wife with whom you had intercourse,
but if you did not have intercourse, then there is no sin on you
(to divorce her and marry her daughter after her divorce or death),
(also forbidden are:) the wives of your sons who are of your own sperm (not step sons),
and two sisters together at the same time, except for what passed (before this decree).
Indeed God is Very Forgiving, Most-Merciful (to good people).

وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ مِنَ النِّسَاء إِلاَّ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ كِتَابَ اللّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأُحِلَّ لَكُم مَّا وَرَاء ذَلِكُمْ أَن تَبْتَغُواْ بِأَمْوَالِكُم مُّحْصِنِينَ غَيْرَ مُسَافِحِينَ
فَمَا اسْتَمْتَعْتُم بِهِ مِنْهُنَّ فَآتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ فَرِيضَةً وَلاَ جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِيمَا تَرَاضَيْتُم بِهِ مِن بَعْدِ الْفَرِيضَةِ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

 

24-

And also (forbidden are:) married women,
except captive women, on whom you gained upper right hand
(custody of them during the defensive wars with idolaters and now you are caring for her).
Thus is the ordinance of God upon you.
All other women are lawful to you, provided you seek them (in marriage), offering them marriage gifts,
in honest wedlock and not for illegal lust; so with those whom you sought to enjoy tentative marriage for pleasure,
give them their due gifts, as ordained, and it is not a sin for you to mutually agree to adjust the amount,
after your initial mutual agreement (which became a duty upon you to pay).
Surely God is he All knowing, the All Wise

 وَمَن لَّمْ يَسْتَطِعْ مِنكُمْ طَوْلًا أَن يَنكِحَ الْمُحْصَنَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ فَمِن مِّا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُم مِّن فَتَيَاتِكُمُ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَاللّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِإِيمَانِكُمْ بَعْضُكُم
مِّن بَعْضٍ فَانكِحُوهُنَّ بِإِذْنِ أَهْلِهِنَّ وَآتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ مُحْصَنَاتٍ غَيْرَ مُسَافِحَاتٍ وَلاَ مُتَّخِذَاتِ أَخْدَانٍ فَإِذَا أُحْصِنَّ فَإِنْ أَتَيْنَ بِفَاحِشَةٍ
فَعَلَيْهِنَّ نِصْفُ مَا عَلَى الْمُحْصَنَاتِ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ ذَلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِيَ الْعَنَتَ مِنْكُمْ وَأَن تَصْبِرُواْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ وَاللّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
 

 

25-

And whoever of you who does not have the means to marry any free, believing woman,
then he may marry any believing captive woman
from among those on whom you had gained upper right hard (have taken custody of),
and God is All-Aware of your Faith.
You (free person or anyone in custody) are all from one another (fellow human beings).
Marry them, with the permission of their own folks
and give them their marriage gift in a nice and reasonable manner;
(the above mentioned captive girls) should be chaste, not adulteress, nor taking boyfriends.
Then after they are married, if they commit unlawful sexual relation, their punishment is half of that of a free woman.
This type of marriage is for the men among you, who are afraid of committing sin (of adultery due to physical need),
but it is better for you if you practice self-restraint,
and God is Very Forgiving, the Most Merciful (to good people).

يُرِيدُ اللّهُ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَكُمْ وَيَهْدِيَكُمْ سُنَنَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَيَتُوبَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

 

26-

God intends to explain to you (what is lawful and what is unlawful)
and to guide you into the (righteous) ways of life of those who were before you and to accept your repentance
and God is the All-knowing, the All-Wise.

وَاللّهُ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتُوبَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَيُرِيدُ الَّذِينَ يَتَّبِعُونَ الشَّهَوَاتِ أَن تَمِيلُواْ مَيْلًا عَظِيمًا

 

27-

God does wish to accept you in your repentance,
but those who follow lusts (illicit sex), want that you (believers) would deviate a great deal (away from the right way of life).

يُرِيدُ اللّهُ أَن يُخَفِّفَ عَنكُمْ وَخُلِقَ الإِنسَانُ ضَعِيفًا

 

28-

God wants to lighten the burdens from you, as humankind was created weak (in controlling desires).

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ لاَ تَأْكُلُواْ أَمْوَالَكُمْ بَيْنَكُمْ بِالْبَاطِلِ إِلاَّ أَن تَكُونَ تِجَارَةً عَن تَرَاضٍ مِّنكُمْ وَلاَ تَقْتُلُواْ أَنفُسَكُمْ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا

 

29-

O' you who believe, do not eat up each other's property unlawfully,
other than by a trade between you which should be by mutual consent.
And do not kill yourselves or each other.
God has been Merciful to you.

وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ عُدْوَانًا وَظُلْمًا فَسَوْفَ نُصْلِيهِ نَارًا وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى اللّهِ يَسِيرًا

 

30-

And whoever commits that by aggression and injustice, We shall cast him in Fire
and that is easy for God.

إِن تَجْتَنِبُواْ كَبَآئِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَنُدْخِلْكُم مُّدْخَلًا كَرِيمًا

 

31-

If you avoid major sins which you are forbidden to do,
We shall cover away your minor sins from your past, and We shall admit you into a Noble Entrance (of Paradise)

وَلاَ تَتَمَنَّوْاْ مَا فَضَّلَ اللّهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ لِّلرِّجَالِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا اكْتَسَبُواْ وَلِلنِّسَاء
نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا اكْتَسَبْنَ وَاسْأَلُواْ اللّهَ مِن فَضْلِهِ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمًا

 

32-

And do not have envious wish for the things that God has given to some of you, more than to others.
For men, there are rewards for what they have earned and (likewise) for women,
there are rewards for what they have earned.
So ask God of His Bounty (of unlimited wealth, instead of being envious of what other people were given by Him).
Indeed God is the All-Knowing of all things (all matters, all situations, all possibilities etc, ask Him.)

وَلِكُلٍّ جَعَلْنَا مَوَالِيَ مِمَّا تَرَكَ الْوَالِدَانِ وَالأَقْرَبُونَ وَالَّذِينَ عَقَدَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ فَآتُوهُمْ نَصِيبَهُمْ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدًا

 

33-

For everyone, We have appointed heirs to whatever (property) left by parents and relatives.
Also to those whom you promised a pledge with your right handshake, give them their portion.
Truly God is Ever Witness over all things.

الرِّجَالُ قَوَّامُونَ عَلَى النِّسَاء بِمَا فَضَّلَ اللّهُ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ وَبِمَا أَنفَقُواْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ فَالصَّالِحَاتُ قَانِتَاتٌ حَافِظَاتٌ لِّلْغَيْبِ
بِمَا حَفِظَ اللّهُ وَاللاَّتِي تَخَافُونَ نُشُوزَهُنَّ فَعِظُوهُنَّ وَاهْجُرُوهُنَّ فِي
الْمَضَاجِعِ وَاضْرِبُوهُنَّ فَإِنْ أَطَعْنَكُمْ فَلاَ تَبْغُواْ عَلَيْهِنَّ سَبِيلًا إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَلِيًّا كَبِيرًا

 

34-

Men are overseers and maintainer-protectors of women,
as God made one of them, (the husband) to be above the other
(above the wife, in physical power and opportunity to earn a living)
and because they (husbands have to) spend of their means (to support them).
Therefore the righteous women are obedient (to God and cooperative with their husbands),
guarding in the absence of their husbands, what God ordered to guard
(such as the honor of the family and their property etc).
As to women, on whom you observe or fear their disloyalty and ill-conduct, advise them (first, if it does not work, next)
refuse to share their beds (and if that does not help either, last)
beat them (lightly, to wake them up to correct themselves),
then if they obey you, do not seek any way to annoy (bother) them.
Surely God is Most High, Most Great.

 وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ شِقَاقَ بَيْنِهِمَا فَابْعَثُواْ حَكَمًا مِّنْ أَهْلِهِ وَحَكَمًا مِّنْ أَهْلِهَا إِن يُرِيدَا إِصْلاَحًا يُوَفِّقِ اللّهُ بَيْنَهُمَا إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا خَبِيرًا

 

35-

And if you (close relatives) fear separation between the two of them,
then appoint an arbitrator from his close relatives and an arbitrator from her close relatives;
if they both (husband and wife) wish to improve and correct their relation,
God will cause peace and cooperation between them.
Indeed God is the All-Knowing, the All-acquainted (of all details of situations).

وَاعْبُدُواْ اللّهَ وَلاَ تُشْرِكُواْ بِهِ شَيْئًا وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا وَبِذِي الْقُرْبَى وَالْيَتَامَى وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَالْجَارِ ذِي الْقُرْبَى وَالْجَارِ الْجُنُبِ
وَالصَّاحِبِ بِالجَنبِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُحِبُّ مَن كَانَ مُخْتَالًا فَخُورًا
 

 

36-

Worship only God and do not imagine any partner with Him.
And do good for your parents, next of kin, the orphans, the needy, the neighbor relative,
the neighbor on your side and companion by your side,
the needy traveler, and those people on whom you have the upper right hand (in authority and care).
Certainly God does not like the arrogant and boastful person.

الَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ وَيَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبُخْلِ وَيَكْتُمُونَ مَا آتَاهُمُ اللّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَافِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا

 

37-

Those who are stingy and enjoin and make other people to be stingy and hide what God gave them of His Bounty.
And We have prepared for those who cover up the truth (the ungrateful disbelievers), a humiliating suffering.

وَالَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ رِئَاء النَّاسِ وَلاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ وَلاَ بِالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَمَن يَكُنِ الشَّيْطَانُ لَهُ قَرِينًا فَسَاء قِرِينًا

 

38-

And also those who spend of their wealth for show off to people,
but they believe neither in God nor in the Last Day (of Judgment),
and whoever has Satan as close companion, then (should know) what an awful evil companion he is.

وَمَاذَا عَلَيْهِمْ لَوْ آمَنُواْ بِاللّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَأَنفَقُواْ مِمَّا رَزَقَهُمُ اللّهُ وَكَانَ اللّهُ بِهِم عَلِيمًا

 

39-

And how nice would have been for them, if they had believed in God and the Last Day (of Judgment)
and they would spend of what God has given them for sustenance?
As God is Ever Aware of their conditions.

إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ وَإِن تَكُ حَسَنَةً يُضَاعِفْهَا وَيُؤْتِ مِن لَّدُنْهُ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

 

40-

Certainly God does not wrong (anyone) as much as the weight of a particle of an atom
and if any good deed is done, He doubles it and gives of His Own Grace a great reward.

فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِن كُلِّ أمَّةٍ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَى هَؤُلاء شَهِيدًا

 

41-

(Imagine) then how it will be when We bring forward from each nation a witness
and We bring you (Muhammad) forward as a witness to these people ('s behavior and deeds)

يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَعَصَوُاْ الرَّسُولَ لَوْ تُسَوَّى بِهِمُ الأَرْضُ وَلاَ يَكْتُمُونَ اللّهَ حَدِيثًا 

 

42-

On that Day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger (Muhammad),
wish that they were buried level with ground (so no one would notice them),
and they can not hide any fact from God.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ لاَ تَقْرَبُواْ الصَّلاَةَ وَأَنتُمْ سُكَارَى حَتَّىَ تَعْلَمُواْ مَا تَقُولُونَ
وَلاَ جُنُبًا إِلاَّ عَابِرِي سَبِيلٍ حَتَّىَ تَغْتَسِلُواْ وَإِن كُنتُم مَّرْضَى
أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ أَوْ جَاء أَحَدٌ مِّنكُم مِّن الْغَآئِطِ أَوْ لاَمَسْتُمُ النِّسَاء فَلَمْ تَجِدُواْ مَاء فَتَيَمَّمُواْ
صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَامْسَحُواْ بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُمْ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّا غَفُورًا
 

 

43-

O you who believe, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated (drunk)
till you (are sober and) know what you are saying (in prayer),
nor in state of "Janaba" (after sex before having washed self and bathed accordingly),
except when traveling on a road, till you take complete wash bath.
And if you are ill or on a journey, or one of you comes from defecation or have had contact (sex) with women
and finds no water (to take bath), then do "Tayammum":
which is rubbing with some clean and pure soil your faces and your hands (before payer).
Certainly God lets go of many shortcomings and He is Very Forgiving.

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ نَصِيبًا مِّنَ الْكِتَابِ يَشْتَرُونَ الضَّلاَلَةَ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَن تَضِلُّواْ السَّبِيلَ 

 

44-

Haven't you noticed those who were given a part of the Scripture (The Jews and the Christians)?
They are buying error
(by paying some rabbis and priests to give them wrong statements which were added to the original Scriptures)
and they even wish that you (Muslims) also go astray from the right way.

وَاللّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِأَعْدَائِكُمْ وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ وَلِيًّا وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ نَصِيرًا 

 

45-

And God is Best-Knowing about your enemies
and God is Sufficient as a Protector and God is Sufficient as a Helper.

مِّنَ الَّذِينَ هَادُواْ يُحَرِّفُونَ الْكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِ وَيَقُولُونَ سَمِعْنَا وَعَصَيْنَا وَاسْمَعْ غَيْرَ مُسْمَعٍ وَرَاعِنَا لَيًّا بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ وَطَعْنًا فِي الدِّينِ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ
قَالُواْ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا وَاسْمَعْ وَانظُرْنَا لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ وَأَقْوَمَ وَلَكِن لَّعَنَهُمُ اللّهُ بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَلاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ إِلاَّ قَلِيلًا

 

46-

Among those who are Jews, there are some who deliberately displace words (of Verses) from their proper position
and say: "(O Muhammad!) we heard you and we disobeyed,"
and "Hear, however don't don't pay any attention"
and "Raina (which in Arabic means: care for us, but)
with a twist of their (Hebrew) tongue (means: you are fooling us) and as such, a mockery of the religion (Islam).
And if they would have instead said: "We heard and obey"
and "Do listen and look at us (and allow us to study the Verses)",
it would have been better for them and a more proper and solid response;
but God has rejected them from His Mercy because of their refusal to acknowledge the truth
and only a few of them believe, a little (of the truth).

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَابَ آمِنُواْ بِمَا نَزَّلْنَا مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا مَعَكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن نَّطْمِسَ وُجُوهًا فَنَرُدَّهَا
عَلَى أَدْبَارِهَا أَوْ نَلْعَنَهُمْ كَمَا لَعَنَّا أَصْحَابَ السَّبْتِ وَكَانَ أَمْرُ اللّهِ مَفْعُولًا

 

47-

O you who have been given the Scripture (Jews and Christians),
believe in what We revealed (to Muhammad), confirming what is already with you
(regarding the coming of prophet Muhammad in the Bible),
before We change the face of some situations and relationships
and bring them backward (looking back at them in regret, backwards),
or that We would curse them (deprive them of Our Mercy), just as we cursed the Sabbath-breakers.
And the Order of God is always realized and executed.      5

إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ لِمَن يَشَاءُ وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِاللّهِ فَقَدِ افْتَرَى إِثْمًا عَظِيمًا

 

48-

God certainly does not forgive that any partner to be assumed as associated with Him (in worship),
but He does forgive, apart from this, any lesser sin of anyone He wills;
and whoever sets up (in his or her mind or utters) any associate or any partner with God,
then that person has indeed fabricated a great sinful lie.

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ يُزَكُّونَ أَنفُسَهُمْ بَلِ اللّهُ يُزَكِّي مَن يَشَاءُ وَلاَ يُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا 

 

49-

Haven't you noticed those (Jews and Christians) who claim sainthood for themselves (on their own choosing)?
But God sanctifies whom He wants (as worthy of it)
and none will be dealt with unfairly, not even as little as the thin cover of a date-stone

انظُرْ كَيفَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى اللّهِ الكَذِبَ وَكَفَى بِهِ إِثْمًا مُّبِينًا    

 

50-

Look at how they fabricate lies against God (such as the trinity) and that is enough as an obvious crime (sin).

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ نَصِيبًا مِّنَ الْكِتَابِ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْجِبْتِ وَالطَّاغُوتِ وَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ هَؤُلاء أَهْدَى مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ سَبِيلًا  

 

51-

Haven't you noticed those who were given a portion of the Scripture?
They believe in the idols "(Jibt)" and "Taghut"
and they tell the disbelievers (who believe in these idols) that
they are better guided that the believers (Muslim), in the way of life.

أُوْلَئِكَ الَّذِينَ لَعَنَهُمُ اللّهُ وَمَن يَلْعَنِ اللّهُ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُ نَصِيرًا

 

52-

Those are the ones whom God has cursed (away from His Mercy)
and whom God curses, you won't find any helper for that person.

أَمْ لَهُمْ نَصِيبٌ مِّنَ الْمُلْكِ فَإِذًا لاَّ يُؤْتُونَ النَّاسَ نَقِيرًا 

 

53-

If they would have any part of authority in the government,
then they would not want to give to other people any bit of advantage.

أَمْ يَحْسُدُونَ النَّاسَ عَلَى مَا آتَاهُمُ اللّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ فَقَدْ آتَيْنَآ آلَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَآتَيْنَاهُم مُّلْكًا عَظِيمًا 

 

54-

Or is it because they envy the people (Muhammad and his followers)
for what God has given them of His bounty (of Guidance).
In fact We had already given the family and followers of Abraham, the Book and Divine wisdom,
and gave them a great kingdom (to David and Solomon).

فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ آمَنَ بِهِ وَمِنْهُم مَّن صَدَّ عَنْهُ وَكَفَى بِجَهَنَّمَ سَعِيرًا

 

55-

From among them, were those who believed and others who opposed it (the spread of the Word of God).
For them, the Hell is enough as a place to burn.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِآيَاتِنَا سَوْفَ نُصْلِيهِمْ نَارًا كُلَّمَا نَضِجَتْ
      جُلُودُهُمْ بَدَّلْنَاهُمْ جُلُودًا غَيْرَهَا لِيَذُوقُواْ الْعَذَابَ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا

 

56-

Surely, those who disbelieve Our Verses of Revelations, We shall throw them to the Fire.
Soon as their skins are roasted, We replace it with other layers of skins so that they would feel (taste) the punishment.
Certainly God is the All-powerful Above-all, the All-wise.

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ
      خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا لَّهُمْ فِيهَا أَزْوَاجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ وَنُدْخِلُهُمْ ظِلاًّ ظَلِيلًا

 

57-

But those who believe (in the Oneness of God, the Revelations and the Hereafter) and do good works,
We shall admit them into Gardens below which streams and rivers flow, remaining there forever.
There, they shall have purified mates or spouses and
We shall admit them to widespread enlarging shades (of happiness in Paradise)

إِنَّ اللّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تُؤدُّواْ الأَمَانَاتِ إِلَى أَهْلِهَا وَإِذَا حَكَمْتُم بَيْنَ النَّاسِ أَن تَحْكُمُواْ
      بِالْعَدْلِ إِنَّ اللّهَ نِعِمَّا يَعِظُكُم بِهِ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا

 

58-

Indeed God commands you to give back objects of trust to their proper owners
and that whenever you judge among people, that you must judge with justice.
How great indeed does God teach you about it (justice).
Of course God is Ever All-Hearing, All-Observing!

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ الرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ فَإِن تَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى اللّهِ
      وَالرَّسُولِ إِن كُنتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ ذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا

 

59-

O you who believe, obey God and obey the Messenger (Muhammad)
and those of you (Muslims) who are given authority by you.
and if you dispute and challenge each other about any subject,
then refer it to God ('s Words - the Quran) and the Messenger,
if you really believe in God and the Last Day (of Judgment).
That way is better for you and a finer way of interpretation.

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُمْ آمَنُواْ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَتَحَاكَمُواْ إِلَى الطَّاغُوتِ وَقَدْ أُمِرُواْ
      أَن يَكْفُرُواْ بِهِ وَيُرِيدُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَن يُضِلَّهُمْ ضَلاَلًا بَعِيدًا

 

60-

Haven't you noticed those who claim (imagine) that they believe in that which was sent down (as Revelation) to you
and that which was sent down before you, they wish to go for Judgment (about their disputes)
to Taghut (illegitimate ruler-false judge), even though they were ordered to reject them.
And Satan wishes (that way) to mislead them far away (from the truth).

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْاْ إِلَى مَا أَنزَلَ اللّهُ وَإِلَى الرَّسُولِ رَأَيْتَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَنكَ صُدُودًا

 

61-

And when it is said to them: "Come to study what God has sent down and to the Messenger (for judgment)",
you notice the hypocrites keep away from you badly.

فَكَيْفَ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ جَآؤُوكَ يَحْلِفُونَ بِاللّهِ إِنْ أَرَدْنَا إِلاَّ إِحْسَانًا وَتَوْفِيقًا

 

62-

How is it then, when a calamity befalls them because of what their own hands had done before (and caused it),
then they come to you, swearing by God: "We did not mean anything but goodness and cooperation."

أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُ اللّهُ مَا فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَعِظْهُمْ وَقُل لَّهُمْ فِي أَنفُسِهِمْ قَوْلًا بَلِيغًا

 

63-

God knows what is in their hearts (of the hypocrites),
so turn away from associating with them, but do advise them to correct themselves and say effective words,
in order to reach into their inner selves.

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلاَّ لِيُطَاعَ بِإِذْنِ اللّهِ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ إِذ ظَّلَمُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ جَآؤُوكَ فَاسْتَغْفَرُواْ اللّهَ
      وَاسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُمُ الرَّسُولُ لَوَجَدُواْ اللّهَ تَوَّابًا رَّحِيمًا

 

64-

We sent no Messenger, but to be obeyed by permit of God.
And even though they have been unjust to themselves,
if they come to you and they ask for God's Forgiveness and the Messenger asks Forgiveness for them,
they will certainly find that God is Very Repentance-Acceptor, Merciful (to good people).

فَلاَ وَرَبِّكَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّىَ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لاَ يَجِدُواْ فِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُواْ تَسْلِيمًا

 

65-

But no, your Lord knows, they do not really believe,
unless they come to you for judgment in all the disputes between them
and find (feel) no difficulty, or resistance in what you (Muhammad) judged
and accept it wholeheartedly, completely submitting to your judgment.

وَلَوْ أَنَّا كَتَبْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَنِ اقْتُلُواْ أَنفُسَكُمْ أَوِ اخْرُجُواْ مِن دِيَارِكُم مَّا فَعَلُوهُ إِلاَّ قَلِيلٌ
      مِّنْهُمْ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ فَعَلُواْ مَا يُوعَظُونَ بِهِ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ وَأَشَدَّ تَثْبِيتًا

 

66-

And if We had ordered them (saying): kill your own selfish desires, sacrifice yourselves
or leave your homes (mingle with other people),
only a few of them would have done it, but if they would have done what they were advised to do so,
it certainly would have been better for them and stronger in strengthening of their faith,

وَإِذًا لَّآتَيْنَاهُم مِّن لَّدُنَّا أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

 

67-

In which case, We would have indeed granted them a great reward from Our-self,

وَلَهَدَيْنَاهُمْ صِرَاطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا

 

68-

And We would have certainly guided them to the straight way.

وَمَن يُطِعِ اللّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ فَأُوْلَئِكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاء وَالصَّالِحِينَ وَحَسُنَ أُولَئِكَ رَفِيقًا

 

69-

And whoever obeys God and the Messenger,
then they are going to be together with those on whom God has bestowed His Grace,
from among the prophets, the confirmers (loyal persons)
(the first ones to confirm and believe in Muhammad's prophet hood, such as Khadijah and Ali and others),
the martyrs and the righteous ones and how excellent these friends will be.

ذَلِكَ الْفَضْلُ مِنَ اللّهِ وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ عَلِيمًا

 

70-

Such Gracious Preference is from God and God is Sufficient as He is the All-Knowing.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ خُذُواْ حِذْرَكُمْ فَانفِرُواْ ثُبَاتٍ أَوِ انفِرُواْ جَمِيعًا

 

71-

O you who believe, take your precautions, keep up your weapons,
then go in defensive groups to guard stations or go ahead altogether (towards your attacking enemy).

وَإِنَّ مِنكُمْ لَمَن لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ فَإِنْ أَصَابَتْكُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالَ قَدْ أَنْعَمَ اللّهُ عَلَيَّ إِذْ لَمْ أَكُن مَّعَهُمْ شَهِيدًا

 

72-

And there is certainly among you the kind of person who would rather linger behind
(from fighting in defense of the Cause of God).
Then if a misfortune or setback hits you, he would say:
"Indeed God favored me that I was not present with them (as martyrs)".

وَلَئِنْ أَصَابَكُمْ فَضْلٌ مِّنَ الله لَيَقُولَنَّ كَأَن لَّمْ تَكُن بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُ مَوَدَّةٌ يَا لَيتَنِي كُنتُ مَعَهُمْ فَأَفُوزَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا

 

73-

But if a bounty (such as victory or booty) comes for you from God, they would surely say:
as if there was never any ties of connection between you and him, saying:
"Oh, I wish I were with them, then I could have achieved a great win (a good share of the booty)."

فَلْيُقَاتِلْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ الَّذِينَ يَشْرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا بِالآخِرَةِ وَمَن يُقَاتِلْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ فَيُقْتَلْ أَو يَغْلِبْ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا   

 

74-

Let those who sell (exchange) the life of this world for the Hereafter, fight in the Cause of God,
and whoever fights in the Cause of God, then gets killed or victorious, We shall Certainly bestow on him a great reward.

وَمَا لَكُمْ لاَ تُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ وَالْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاء وَالْوِلْدَانِ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ
رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْ هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ الظَّالِمِ أَهْلُهَا وَاجْعَل لَّنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ وَلِيًّا وَاجْعَل لَّنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ نَصِيرًا
 

 

75-

And what is wrong with you that you do not fight in the Cause of God
and for those weak men, women and children who say:
"O' Our Lord, rescue us from this town whose people are oppressors and (raise and) appoint for us,
from Your Mercy, a leading protector and appoint, from Your Mercy someone who will help us."

الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُقَاتِلُونَ
فِي سَبِيلِ الطَّاغُوتِ فَقَاتِلُواْ أَوْلِيَاء الشَّيْطَانِ إِنَّ كَيْدَ الشَّيْطَانِ كَانَ ضَعِيفًا
 

 

76-

Those who believe, fight in the Cause of God,
and those who disbelieve, fight for the cause of "Taghut" (: unjust ruler, Satan).
Therefore fight against the friends of Satan, (and know that) indeed the plot and design of Satan is weak.

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ قِيلَ لَهُمْ كُفُّواْ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَقِيمُواْ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتُواْ الزَّكَاةَ فَلَمَّا
كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقِتَالُ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَخْشَوْنَ النَّاسَ كَخَشْيَةِ اللّهِ أَوْ أَشَدَّ خَشْيَةً
وَقَالُواْ رَبَّنَا لِمَ كَتَبْتَ عَلَيْنَا الْقِتَالَ لَوْلا أَخَّرْتَنَا إِلَى أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ قُلْ مَتَاعُ الدَّنْيَا قَلِيلٌ وَالآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّمَنِ اتَّقَى وَلاَ تُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا
 

 

77-

Haven't you noticed those who were told:
"Hold back your hands off from fighting, but do perform regular prayer and give Zakat (poor-rate)."
But as soon as fighting was ordained for them, a number of them fear men as they would fear God or even more.
They say: "Our Lord, why did you ordain fighting for us? Why did you not give us a short delay?"
(O Muhammad) say: "The enjoyment of worldly things is small and for a short time,
but the success of the Hereafter is best far those who are God-conscious
and none of you shall be dealt with unjustly, not even as little as the thread of a date-stone".

أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُواْ يُدْرِككُّمُ الْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنتُمْ فِي بُرُوجٍ مُّشَيَّدَةٍ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ حَسَنَةٌ يَقُولُواْ هَذِهِ مِنْ عِندِ اللّهِ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ
      يَقُولُواْ هَذِهِ مِنْ عِندِكَ قُلْ كُلًّ مِّنْ عِندِ اللّهِ فَمَا لِهَؤُلاء الْقَوْمِ لاَ يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ حَدِيثًا

 

78-

Wherever you might be, death will overwhelm you, even if you are in fortresses built strong and high.
And when some good events happens to them, they say; "This is from God,"
and when some bad happens to them, they say: "(O Muhammad) this is from you."
Say: "All things are originally from God."
what do you then think is wrong with these people who can't understand a true statement?!

مَّا أَصَابَكَ مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ فَمِنَ اللّهِ وَمَا أَصَابَكَ مِن سَيِّئَةٍ فَمِن نَّفْسِكَ وَأَرْسَلْنَاكَ لِلنَّاسِ رَسُولًا وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ شَهِيدًا

 

79-

Whatever of good reaches you is from God,
and whatever result of evil (deeds) befalls you, is from your own doing
and We sent you to people as a Messenger to mankind
and God alone is enough as a Constant-witness (to everything).

مَّنْ يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللّهَ وَمَن تَوَلَّى فَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًا

 

80-

He who obeys the Messenger, actually is obeying God
and whoever turns away, then (know that) We did not sent you as a watcher-protector over them.

وَيَقُولُونَ طَاعَةٌ فَإِذَا بَرَزُواْ مِنْ عِندِكَ بَيَّتَ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنْهُمْ غَيْرَ الَّذِي تَقُولُ وَاللّهُ
      يَكْتُبُ مَا يُبَيِّتُونَ فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللّهِ وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ وَكِيلًا

 

81-

They say: "We obey" but when they leave you (Muhammad),
a group of them spends all night planning to do other than what you say.
But God records what they plot nightly.
Therefore keep away from them and put your trust in God
and God alone is Enough as the Ultimate Defender, Protector.

أَفَلاَ يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ وَلَوْ كَانَ مِنْ عِندِ غَيْرِ اللّهِ لَوَجَدُواْ فِيهِ اخْتِلاَفًا كَثِيرًا

 

82-

Don't they then consider the meaning of the Quran carefully?
Had it been from other than God, they would then surely have found many contradictions in it.

وَإِذَا جَاءهُمْ أَمْرٌ مِّنَ الأَمْنِ أَوِ الْخَوْفِ أَذَاعُواْ بِهِ وَلَوْ رَدُّوهُ إِلَى الرَّسُولِ
وَإِلَى أُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنْهُمْ لَعَلِمَهُ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَنبِطُونَهُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَوْلاَ
فَضْلُ اللّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ لاَتَّبَعْتُمُ الشَّيْطَانَ إِلاَّ قَلِيلًا

 

83-

When news of (public) safety (and success) or fear (of a danger of enemy) reaches them, they spread the news.
But if only they would have referred it to the Messenger and to those who are charged in authority from among them,
the proper people who investigate it (the news) from among them, would have found out the truth about them.
Had it not been for the Grace and Mercy of God upon you, you (people) would have certainly followed Satan
(and the evil way by spreading the wrong news and rumors of fear), except for a few (of you).

فَقَاتِلْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ لاَ تُكَلَّفُ إِلاَّ نَفْسَكَ وَحَرِّضِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَسَى اللّهُ أَن يَكُفَّ بَأْسَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَاللّهُ أَشَدُّ بَأْسًا وَأَشَدُّ تَنكِيلًا

 

84-

So (O Muhammad) fight in the Cause of God,
you are not responsible except for yourself and encourage the believers (to fight along with you),
so that God may restrain and stop the evil of those who disbelieve
and God is Stronger in Might and More Severe in punishing.

مَّن يَشْفَعْ شَفَاعَةً حَسَنَةً يَكُن لَّهُ نَصِيبٌ مِّنْهَا وَمَن يَشْفَعْ شَفَاعَةً سَيِّئَةً يَكُن لَّهُ كِفْلٌ مِّنْهَا وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُّقِيتًا

 

85-

Whoever intercedes and mediates in a good cause, will have share of it (the good deed)
and whoever mediates (conspires) for an evil doing, will have a part of the burden of responsibility of it.
And God is the All Capable over all.

وَإِذَا حُيِّيْتُم بِتَحِيَّةٍ فَحَيُّواْ بِأَحْسَنَ مِنْهَا أَوْ رُدُّوهَا إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَسِيبًا

 

86-

When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with better words or at least with similar words.
Certainly God is All Accountant of everything.

اللّهُ لا إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ لَيَجْمَعَنَّكُمْ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ رَيْبَ فِيهِ وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللّهِ حَدِيثًا

 

87-

God is the Only One, none is worthy of worship except Him.
He surely will gather you all together on the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt.
And who is more truthful in statement than God?

فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ وَاللّهُ أَرْكَسَهُم بِمَا كَسَبُواْ أَتُرِيدُونَ أَن تَهْدُواْ مَنْ أَضَلَّ اللّهُ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ اللّهُ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُ سَبِيلًا

 

88-

Now then what is the matter with you that you are divided into two parties about the hypocrites?
God has put them off (in their disbelief), because of the result of their own doing.
Now are you trying to guide someone whom God has let go astray?
And (know that) whomever God lets astray, you will not find any way (of guidance) for him.

وَدُّواْ لَوْ تَكْفُرُونَ كَمَا كَفَرُواْ فَتَكُونُونَ سَوَاء فَلاَ تَتَّخِذُواْ مِنْهُمْ أَوْلِيَاء حَتَّىَ يُهَاجِرُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ فَإِن
      تَوَلَّوْاْ فَخُذُوهُمْ وَاقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ وَجَدتَّمُوهُمْ وَلاَ تَتَّخِذُواْ مِنْهُمْ وَلِيًّا وَلاَ نَصِيرًا

 

89-

They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected, so you be the same.
Therefore don't take them as close friends, till they (show that if they are sincere, they) emigrate in the way of God
(away from their unbelieving circle of friends).
But if they (the hypocrites who commit treason) turn back away, arrest them and kill them
 wherever you find them and do not accept any of them as friends, nor as helpers.

إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ إِلَىَ قَوْمٍ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُم مِّيثَاقٌ أَوْ جَآؤُوكُمْ حَصِرَتْ صُدُورُهُمْ أَن يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ أَوْ يُقَاتِلُواْ قَوْمَهُمْ وَلَوْ شَاء اللّهُ لَسَلَّطَهُمْ
      عَلَيْكُمْ فَلَقَاتَلُوكُمْ فَإِنِ اعْتَزَلُوكُمْ فَلَمْ يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ وَأَلْقَوْاْ إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلَمَ فَمَا جَعَلَ اللّهُ لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ سَبِيلًا

 

90-

Except those who reach to a group with whom you have a treaty (of peace)
or those who approach you, but their chests (inner feelings) are tired from fighting you or fighting their own folks.
And if God had willed, He would have given them indeed dominance over you, then they would have fought you on.
So if they withdraw from you and do not fight you and offer you peace,
then (know that) God does not allow you to antagonize them in any way.

سَتَجِدُونَ آخَرِينَ يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَأْمَنُوكُمْ وَيَأْمَنُواْ قَوْمَهُمْ كُلَّ مَا رُدُّوَاْ إِلَى الْفِتْنِةِ أُرْكِسُواْ فِيِهَا فَإِن لَّمْ يَعْتَزِلُوكُمْ وَيُلْقُواْ إِلَيْكُمُ
      السَّلَمَ وَيَكُفُّوَاْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ فَخُذُوهُمْ وَاقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ ثِقِفْتُمُوهُمْ وَأُوْلَئِكُمْ جَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانًا مُّبِينًا

 

91-

You will soon notice others that wish to have security from you
and also will have security from their own (pagan) folks so that each time they are called back (by them) into mischief,
they would get involved in it (against you); therefore if they don't leave you alone and do not approach you for peace
and do not keep their aggressive hands from you, then arrest them and kill them wherever you find them
and We have given you clear authority against such people.

وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ أَن يَقْتُلَ مُؤْمِنًا إِلاَّ خَطَئًا وَمَن قَتَلَ مُؤْمِنًا خَطَئًا فَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُّؤْمِنَةٍ وَدِيَةٌ مُّسَلَّمَةٌ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ إِلاَّ أَن يَصَّدَّقُواْ
      فَإِن كَانَ مِن قَوْمٍ عَدُوٍّ لَّكُمْ وَهُوَ مْؤْمِنٌ فَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُّؤْمِنَةٍ وَإِن كَانَ مِن قَوْمٍ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُمْ مِّيثَاقٌ فَدِيَةٌ مُّسَلَّمَةٌ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ وَتَحْرِيرُ
      رَقَبَةٍ مُّؤْمِنَةً فَمَن لَّمْ يَجِدْ فَصِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ تَوْبَةً مِّنَ اللّهِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

 

92-

It is not allowed for a believer to kill another believer, except by mistake and whoever kills a believer by mistake,
then he must free a believing slave and pay a definite compensation (blood money) to the family of the deceased,
except if they forgive as an act of charity.
If the deceased person was from a clan that was an enemy of you and that deceased person was a believer,
then the freeing of a believing slave is prescribed.
And if he belonged to a people with whom you have a treaty of peace,
then a definite compensation must be paid to his family and additionally a believing slave should be freed.
But if the person (who killed), does not find the possibility of freeing a believing slave,
then he must fast for two consecutive months, seeking forgiveness from God.
And God is the All Knowing, All Wise.

وَمَن يَقْتُلْ مُؤْمِنًا مُّتَعَمِّدًا فَجَزَآؤُهُ جَهَنَّمُ خَالِدًا فِيهَا وَغَضِبَ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَعَنَهُ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُ عَذَابًا عَظِيمًا

 

93-

And whoever kills a believing person intentionally,
then his punishment is Hell, to remain in there and the wrath of God against him
and His Curse on him and He has prepared a massive punishment for him.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ إِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ فَتَبَيَّنُواْ وَلاَ تَقُولُواْ لِمَنْ أَلْقَى إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلاَمَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِنًا تَبْتَغُونَ عَرَضَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا
      فَعِندَ اللّهِ مَغَانِمُ كَثِيرَةٌ كَذَلِكَ كُنتُم مِّن قَبْلُ فَمَنَّ اللّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَبَيَّنُواْ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًا

 

94-

O you who believe, when you go to war in defense of the Cause of God,
clarify the situation and do not say to someone who meets you (in greeting) with peace: "You are not a believer.",
seeking (his) goods of livelihood of this world (as booty).
(You should know) then that there are many treasures with God.
You had this situation (attitude) before, then God favored you (to become a Muslim).
Therefore always investigate (before saying something), as truly God is Well Aware of what you do and how you behave.

لاَّ يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُوْلِي الضَّرَرِ وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ
فَضَّلَ اللّهُ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِينَ دَرَجَةً وَكُلاًّ وَعَدَ اللّهُ
الْحُسْنَى وَفَضَّلَ اللّهُ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
 

 

95-

Those believers, sitting at home, without any bodily harm to them or illness,
are not equal to those striving hard (fighting) in the Cause of God with their wealth and their own lives.
God favors those who strive with their wealth and their lives above those who remain sitting (at home), to a certain degree.
To each, God promises goodness and God prefers those striving ones above those sitters by a huge reward.

دَرَجَاتٍ مِّنْهُ وَمَغْفِرَةً وَرَحْمَةً وَكَانَ اللّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

 

96-

These are the higher degrees of standing, Forgiveness and Mercy from Him;
and God is Very Forgiving, the Most Merciful (to good people).

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ تَوَفَّاهُمُ الْمَلآئِكَةُ ظَالِمِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ قَالُواْ فِيمَ كُنتُمْ قَالُواْ كُنَّا مُسْتَضْعَفِينَ فِي الأَرْضِ قَالْوَاْ أَلَمْ تَكُنْ أَرْضُ اللّهِ
      وَاسِعَةً فَتُهَاجِرُواْ فِيهَا فَأُوْلَئِكَ مَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَسَاءتْ مَصِيرًا

 

97-

Those who while doing injustice to themselves,
when the angels of death take their souls, ask them: "In what kind of situation were you?"
they (the sitters, going on, with the disbelievers) respond: "We were oppressed and weak in the lard."
the angels would say: "Was God's earth not widespread enough for you to emigrate on (to a better place)?"
Such people's home shall be Hell and what a dreadful destination!

إِلاَّ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاء وَالْوِلْدَانِ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ حِيلَةً وَلاَ يَهْتَدُونَ سَبِيلًا

 

98-

Except those oppressed ones among men, women and children who have no ability to plan a way out
and don't know how to find a way out.

فَأُوْلَئِكَ عَسَى اللّهُ أَن يَعْفُوَ عَنْهُمْ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَفُوًّا غَفُورًا

 

99-

Those are the ones God may forgive them and God lets go of many shortcomings and He is Very Forgiving.

وَمَن يُهَاجِرْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ يَجِدْ فِي الأَرْضِ مُرَاغَمًا كَثِيرًا وَسَعَةً وَمَن يَخْرُجْ مِن بَيْتِهِ مُهَاجِرًا إِلَى اللّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ثُمَّ يُدْرِكْهُ الْمَوْتُ
      فَقَدْ وَقَعَ أَجْرُهُ عَلى اللّهِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

 

100-

And when someone emigrates for the Cause of God, will find many possibilities to live on secure and spacious areas
and whoever leaves his house, emigrating for the sake of God, following His Messenger, then death overtakes him,
surely his reward is secured by God.
And God is Very Forgiving, Most Merciful.

وَإِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَقْصُرُواْ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ إِنْ خِفْتُمْ
      أَن يَفْتِنَكُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ إِنَّ الْكَافِرِينَ كَانُواْ لَكُمْ عَدُوًّا مُّبِينًا

 

101-

And when you (Muslims) travel in the land, if you fear that the disbelievers might play trick (attack) on you,
then there is no sin on you to shorten the length of the prayers, as the disbelievers have been obvious enemies against you.

وَإِذَا كُنتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ الصَّلاَةَ فَلْتَقُمْ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنْهُم مَّعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُواْ
      أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ فَإِذَا سَجَدُواْ فَلْيَكُونُواْ مِن وَرَآئِكُمْ وَلْتَأْتِ طَآئِفَةٌ أُخْرَى لَمْ يُصَلُّواْ
      فَلْيُصَلُّواْ مَعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُواْ حِذْرَهُمْ وَأَسْلِحَتَهُمْ وَدَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَوْ تَغْفُلُونَ عَنْ أَسْلِحَتِكُمْ وَأَمْتِعَتِكُمْ فَيَمِيلُونَ عَلَيْكُم مَّيْلَةً وَاحِدَةً وَلاَ جُنَاحَ
      عَلَيْكُمْ إِن كَانَ بِكُمْ أَذًى مِّن مَّطَرٍ أَوْ كُنتُم مَّرْضَى أَن تَضَعُواْ أَسْلِحَتَكُمْ وَخُذُواْ حِذْرَكُمْ إِنَّ اللّهَ أَعَدَّ لِلْكَافِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا

 

102-

And when you (Muhammad) are among them and you lead them in prayer,
them a group of them should stand up with you and hold their arms;
and when they have completed their prostrations (their prayers) let them take their position in the back area (to watch for you).
Let another group which has not prayed yet, to pray with you, taking all precautions and bearing their arms,
as the disbelievers wish that if you become negligent regarding your arms and your bags,
to attack you in a single attack.
And there is no blame on you to put down your arms if you are bothered by rain or if you feel ill
but take your precautions.
Certainly God has prepared a humiliating punishment for the disbelievers.    

فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُمُ الصَّلاَةَ فَاذْكُرُواْ اللّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَى جُنُوبِكُمْ فَإِذَا اطْمَأْنَنتُمْ فَأَقِيمُواْ الصَّلاَةَ إِنَّ الصَّلاَةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَّوْقُوتًا

 

103-

After you have completed the (congregational) prayer, also remember God while standing, sitting
and lying down on your side (whichever position).
When you have become secure (from enemy danger),
then do your prayer, as regular prayers are ordained on the believers at specific time periods, 

وَلاَ تَهِنُواْ فِي ابْتِغَاء الْقَوْمِ إِن تَكُونُواْ تَأْلَمُونَ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَأْلَمُونَ كَمَا تَأْلَمونَ وَتَرْجُونَ مِنَ اللّهِ مَا لاَ يَرْجُونَ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

 

104-

And do not relax in the pursuit of the (attacking) group of enemies.
(Remember) If you are suffering (hardships), they are suffering  just as you are suffering,
but you have hope from God (for victory and paradise), something they don't expect.
And God is All-Knowing, All-wise.

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ لِتَحْكُمَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ بِمَا أَرَاكَ اللّهُ وَلاَ تَكُن لِّلْخَآئِنِينَ خَصِيمًا

 

105-

We have surely sent down to you (Muhammad) the Book (Quran) in truth,
so that you would judge between people by the guidance that God has shown you
and don't ever be a pleader or defender for the traitors.

وَاسْتَغْفِرِ اللّهَ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

 

106-

And do seek Forgiveness from God (for believers, mistakes).
Certainly God is Very Forgiving, Most Merciful.

وَلاَ تُجَادِلْ عَنِ الَّذِينَ يَخْتَانُونَ أَنفُسَهُمْ إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُحِبُّ مَن كَانَ خَوَّانًا أَثِيمًا

 

107-

And do not argue on behalf of those who deceive and betray themselves.
Surely God does not like anyone who is a frequent betrayer-sinner

يَسْتَخْفُونَ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَلاَ يَسْتَخْفُونَ مِنَ اللّهِ وَهُوَ مَعَهُمْ إِذْ يُبَيِّتُونَ مَا لاَ يَرْضَى مِنَ الْقَوْلِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطًا

 

108-

They try to hide (their treason and crimes) from people,
but they can not hide them from God and He is ever with them (watching),
when they plot by night in words that He does not approve.
And (they should know) that God is Ever-Encompassing over what they do.

هَاأَنتُمْ هَؤُلاء جَادَلْتُمْ عَنْهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا فَمَن يُجَادِلُ اللّهَ عَنْهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَم مَّن يَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكِيلًا

 

109-

Oh, you who argue for them during the life in this world,
but who is going to argue to God on their behalf on the Day of Resurrection
or who is going to be their defender?

وَمَن يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا أَوْ يَظْلِمْ نَفْسَهُ ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرِ اللّهَ يَجِدِ اللّهَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

 

110-

And when a person does a wrong thing or wrongs himself (by sin)
but afterwards asks God for Forgiveness, he will find God as Very Forgiving, Most Merciful.

وَمَن يَكْسِبْ إِثْمًا فَإِنَّمَا يَكْسِبُهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

 

111-

And when a person earns the result of a sin, he earns (that negative point) against himself ('s future).
And (know that) God is Ever All-Knowing, All-Wise.

وَمَن يَكْسِبْ خَطِيئَةً أَوْ إِثْمًا ثُمَّ يَرْمِ بِهِ بَرِيئًا فَقَدِ احْتَمَلَ بُهْتَانًا وَإِثْمًا مُّبِينًا

 

112-

And when someone earns the result of a (negative point by making a) mistake or a sin,
then throws it (accuses) on someone else, he has indeed burdened himself with one count of false accusation
and one more count of the obvious sin.

      وَلَوْلاَ فَضْلُ اللّهِ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَتُهُ لَهَمَّت طَّآئِفَةٌ مُّنْهُمْ أَن يُضِلُّوكَ وَمَا يُضِلُّونَ
      إِلاُّ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَضُرُّونَكَ مِن شَيْءٍ وَأَنزَلَ اللّهُ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ
      وَعَلَّمَكَ مَا لَمْ تَكُنْ تَعْلَمُ وَكَانَ فَضْلُ اللّهِ عَلَيْكَ عَظِيمًا

 

113-

And had it not been for the Grace of God and His Mercy upon you,
a party of them (the disbelievers) tried to mislead you,
but actually they are misleading only themselves and they can not harm you a bit.
And God has sent down to you the Book (the Quran) and the wisdom (how to live correctly by Islamic laws)
and He thought you, something which you did not know,
and God's Favor and Grace has been great unto you (Muhammad).

لاَّ خَيْرَ فِي كَثِيرٍ مِّن نَّجْوَاهُمْ إِلاَّ مَنْ أَمَرَ بِصَدَقَةٍ أَوْ مَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ إِصْلاَحٍ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ
      وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ ابْتَغَاء مَرْضَاتِ اللّهِ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

 

114-

There is not any good in much of their secret conversation
except for the one who encourages (orders) for charity or fair dealing or caused peace
and reconciliation between people and whoever does this, seeking God's approval, We shall certainly give him a great reward.

وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ الرَّسُولَ مِن بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْهُدَى وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ نُوَلِّهِ مَا تَوَلَّى وَنُصْلِهِ جَهَنَّمَ وَسَاءتْ مَصِيرًا

 

115-

And anyone who contradicts and opposes the Messenger, after the way of guidance has been clearly shown to him
and follows other than the believers way (of life),
We shall leave him in the way which he has chosen
and We shall throw him in the Hell and what an evil destination it will be.

إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ لِمَن يَشَاءُ وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِاللّهِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلاَلًا بَعِيدًا

 

116-

Certainly God does not forgive the sin of associating partners to Him,
but He forgives sins other than that for whomever He wills
and whoever associates (anything or anyone) to God, has indeed strayed far away from the truth.

 إِن يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ إِلاَّ إِنَاثًا وَإِن يَدْعُونَ إِلاَّ شَيْطَانًا مَّرِيدًا

 

117-

They (the local idolaters) invoke and pray to none other than female named deities instead of Him,
and by doing that, they are praying to nothing but Satan, a persistent rebel (evilmonger).

لَّعَنَهُ اللّهُ وَقَالَ لَأَتَّخِذَنَّ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ نَصِيبًا مَّفْرُوضًا 

 

118-

God cursed him (away from His Mercy) and he (the Satan) had said:
"I will certainly take down a certain number of your servants,"

لوَلأُضِلَّنَّهُمْ وَلأُمَنِّيَنَّهُمْ وَلآمُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُبَتِّكُنَّ آذَانَ الأَنْعَامِ وَلآمُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُغَيِّرُنَّ خَلْقَ اللّهِ
      وَمَن يَتَّخِذِ الشَّيْطَانَ وَلِيًّا مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ فَقَدْ خَسِرَ خُسْرَانًا مُّبِينًا

 

119-

"And I shall certainly mislead them, arouse false hopes in them
and make them slit the ears of cattle (a custom of the idolaters)
and indeed I will make them change (damage) the nature of God's creation".
And of course anyone who accepts this behavior of having Satan as boss instead of God,
then that person will suffer a great evident loss.      6

يَعِدُهُمْ وَيُمَنِّيهِمْ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ إِلاَّ غُرُورًا

 

120-

Satan promises them and arouses false hopes and desires in the them and Satan is not promising anything but deceit.

أُوْلَئِكَ مَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَلاَ يَجِدُونَ عَنْهَا مَحِيصًا

 

121-

Those are the ones whose place will be Hell, from which they can not find any escape route.

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا وَعْدَ اللّهِ حَقًّا وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللّهِ قِيلًا

 

122-

And as for those who believe and do righteous works, We shall admit them into Gardens (of Paradise)
below which streams and rivers flow, to remain there forever.
This is the promise of God in truth and who can be more truthful than God's Speech?

لَّيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مَن يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ وَلاَ يَجِدْ لَهُ مِن دُونِ اللّهِ وَلِيًّا وَلاَ نَصِيرًا

 

123-

It is neither up to the desire of you (Muslims), nor up to the desire of people of the Book
(Jews and Christians, to decide how people should be rewarded or punished, but it is up to God),
so whoever acts evil, he will be punished according to (the degree of) it (the evil)
and he won't find other than God any protector or any helper.

وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتَ مِن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُوْلَئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلاَ يُظْلَمُونَ نَقِيرًا

 

124-

And whoever does of good deeds, be a male or a female and that person is a real believer,
such people will enter Paradise and not the speck of a date stone (not an bit) will they be dealt with unjustly.

وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ دِينًا مِّمَّنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُ لله وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ واتَّبَعَ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا وَاتَّخَذَ اللّهُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ خَلِيلًا

 

125-

And who is better in religion than the one who totally submits his being to God
and he is a person who does good things and (by that) he has followed the religion of Abraham,
the naturally truthful religion, and God accepted Abraham as a sincere friend.!

وَللّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُّحِيطًا

 

126-

And (be reminded that) to God belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth
and God is Ever-Encompassing over all things.

وَيَسْتَفْتُونَكَ فِي النِّسَاء قُلِ اللّهُ يُفْتِيكُمْ فِيهِنَّ وَمَا يُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الْكِتَابِ فِي يَتَامَى النِّسَاء الَّلاتِي لاَ تُؤْتُونَهُنَّ مَا كُتِبَ لَهُنَّ وَتَرْغَبُونَ
      أَن تَنكِحُوهُنَّ وَالْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْوِلْدَانِ وَأَن تَقُومُواْ لِلْيَتَامَى بِالْقِسْطِ وَمَا تَفْعَلُواْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ بِهِ عَلِيمًا

 

127-

They ask you (Muhammad) regarding women.
Say: God instructs you about them and what is read to you from the content in the Book regarding the orphan girls,
to whom you (men) do not give their prescribed portion, yet you desire to marry them,
also concerning the abused and weakened children, that you must stand up for justice and fairness
for the orphans and (know that) whatever good you do, God is Ever-Aware of it.

وَإِنِ امْرَأَةٌ خَافَتْ مِن بَعْلِهَا نُشُوزًا أَوْ إِعْرَاضًا فَلاَ جُنَاْحَ عَلَيْهِمَا أَن يُصْلِحَا بَيْنَهُمَا صُلْحًا وَالصُّلْحُ خَيْرٌ وَأُحْضِرَتِ الأَنفُسُ الشُّحَّ
      وَإِن تُحْسِنُواْ وَتَتَّقُواْ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًا

 

128-

And if a woman fears cruelty or desertion from her husband,
there is no sin on them if they settle their differences between them peacefully
(by letting go some of their rights), as peace is better.
Human mind is faced with greed, but if (by suppressing greed) you do good
and stay God-conscious and pious, then (you should know that) God is Ever Well-Aware-Acquainted with what you do.

وَلَن تَسْتَطِيعُواْ أَن تَعْدِلُواْ بَيْنَ النِّسَاء وَلَوْ حَرَصْتُمْ فَلاَ تَمِيلُواْ كُلَّ الْمَيْلِ فَتَذَرُوهَا كَالْمُعَلَّقَةِ وَإِن تُصْلِحُواْ وَتَتَّقُواْ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

 

129-

You will never be able to do perfect justice (concerning love and affection) among your wives
even if had desired it seriously;
so do not concentrate all your care on one of them;
so that you would be leaving the other one suspended (in uncertainty, neither loved nor divorced).
And if you to have peaceful relationship and are ever God-conscious and pious (in dealing with people and your wife),
then (know that) God is Very Forgiving, Most Merciful.

وَإِن يَتَفَرَّقَا يُغْنِ اللّهُ كُلاًّ مِّن سَعَتِهِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ وَاسِعًا حَكِيمًا

 

130-

But if the couple separates (by divorce), God will provide abundance for each of them from His Vast Bounty
as God is Ever-Bountiful, All-Wise.

وَللّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَلَقَدْ وَصَّيْنَا الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ أَنِ اتَّقُواْ اللّهَ وَإِن تَكْفُرُواْ
      فَإِنَّ لِلّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ غَنِيًّا حَمِيدًا

 

131-

And to God belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth.
And We have indeed advised those who were given the Book (of Revelations) before you and you (Muslims)
should keep God in your mind.
But if you disbelieve, then (know that) whatever is in the heavens and in the earth, all belong to God
and God is Ever Rich (beyond any needs, including any need of your belief or disbelief),
Ever praised (by all beings, obeying His Design of Creation, including the freedom He gave to living beings).

وَلِلّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ وَكِيلًا

 

132-

And to God belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth
and God alone is Enough as Master-Protector (of all the existence).

إِن يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ وَيَأْتِ بِآخَرِينَ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ قَدِيرًاً

 

133-

If He wills, He would take you away and destroy you and bring others (into being and into the process of existence)
and God is Ever-Capable over that.

مَّن كَانَ يُرِيدُ ثَوَابَ الدُّنْيَا فَعِندَ اللّهِ ثَوَابُ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا 

 

134-

Whoever desires rewards and benefits of the life of this world,
then (should know that) with God rests all benefit and reward of this world and of the Hereafter
and God is Ever-All Hearing, All-Observant.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ كُونُواْ قَوَّامِينَ بِالْقِسْطِ شُهَدَاء لِلّهِ وَلَوْ عَلَى أَنفُسِكُمْ
      أَوِ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالأَقْرَبِينَ إِن يَكُنْ غَنِيًّا أَوْ فَقَيرًا فَاللّهُ أَوْلَى بِهِمَا فَلاَ تَتَّبِعُواْ الْهَوَى
      أَن تَعْدِلُواْ وَإِن تَلْوُواْ أَوْ تُعْرِضُواْ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًا

 

135-

O you who believe, you should stand up for justice and fairness,
as witnesses and role models to (perform the ordinances of ) God,
even though it (the justice) may be against your own (interests) or your parents or your close relatives,
be they rich or poor, as God is More Important and Close to both (of disputing parties).
Therefore do not follow your own desire, lest you would avoid justice
and if you distort the facts of evidence or refuse to present them,
then (know that) God is Ever-Well-Acquainted of what you do.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ آمِنُواْ بِاللّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَالْكِتَابِ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ وَالْكِتَابِ الَّذِيَ أَنزَلَ
      مِن قَبْلُ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِاللّهِ وَمَلاَئِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلاَلًا بَعِيدًا

 

136-

O you believers, believe in the One God and His Messenger
and the Book that He sent down to His Messenger (Muhammad) and the Book of Scriptures
that He has sent down before, and whoever disbelieves and rejects God,
His angels,
His Books,
His messengers,
and the Last Day (of Judgment),
then he or she has strayed far away (from the Truth).

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ ثُمَّ كَفَرُواْ ثُمَّ آمَنُواْ ثُمَّ كَفَرُواْ ثُمَّ ازْدَادُواْ كُفْرًا لَّمْ يَكُنِ اللّهُ لِيَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ وَلاَ لِيَهْدِيَهُمْ سَبِيلًا

 

137-

Certainly those who first believed then rejected the faith, then believe (again), then disbelieve again
and go on increasing in stressing and spreading the disbelief, there is no way that God would forgive them,
or guide them onto the right way.

بَشِّرِ الْمُنَافِقِينَ بِأَنَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

 

138-

Inform the hypocrites that there shall be a painful punishment for them.

الَّذِينَ يَتَّخِذُونَ الْكَافِرِينَ أَوْلِيَاء مِن دُونِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَيَبْتَغُونَ عِندَهُمُ الْعِزَّةَ فَإِنَّ العِزَّةَ لِلّهِ جَمِيعًا

 

139-

Those who chose the disbelievers as protector-friends, instead of the believers,
are they seeking honor, power and glory with them?
whereas all honor, power and glory belongs to God!

وَقَدْ نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الْكِتَابِ أَنْ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ آيَاتِ اللّهِ يُكَفَرُ بِهَا وَيُسْتَهْزَأُ بِهَا فَلاَ تَقْعُدُواْ مَعَهُمْ حَتَّى يَخُوضُواْ فِي حَدِيثٍ
     غَيْرِهِ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا مِّثْلُهُمْ إِنَّ اللّهَ جَامِعُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَالْكَافِرِينَ فِي جَهَنَّمَ جَمِيعًا

 

140-

And it has already been revealed to you in the Book (Quran)
that when you hear the Verses of God being rejected or made fun of,
then you should not sit with them till they engage in a subject other than that,
(but if you stayed, listening to their nonsense) then you would be like them.
Surely God will gather all hypocrites and disbelievers together in the Hell.

الَّذِينَ يَتَرَبَّصُونَ بِكُمْ فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ فَتْحٌ مِّنَ اللّهِ قَالُواْ أَلَمْ نَكُن مَّعَكُمْ وَإِن كَانَ لِلْكَافِرِينَ نَصِيبٌ قَالُواْ أَلَمْ نَسْتَحْوِذْ عَلَيْكُمْ وَنَمْنَعْكُم
      مِّنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَاللّهُ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَن يَجْعَلَ اللّهُ لِلْكَافِرِينَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ سَبِيلًا

 

141-

Those same (hypocrites) that wait and watch you; if you gain a victory from God, they say:
"Didn't we go along with you, on your side?"
and if a gain would be for the disbelievers, they say (to them):
"Didn't we get upper hand and advantage for you and protect you from the believers (Muslims)?
"God will Judge between you all on the Day of Resurrection
and God will never grant a way for the infidels (to triumph) over the true believers.      7

إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ يُخَادِعُونَ اللّهَ وَهُوَ خَادِعُهُمْ وَإِذَا قَامُواْ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ قَامُواْ كُسَالَى يُرَآؤُونَ النَّاسَ وَلاَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللّهَ إِلاَّ قَلِيلًا

 

142-

In fact, the hypocrites are trying to deceive God but it is He who throws back their deceit.
And when they get up for prayer, they stand lousily to be seen by people (that they are praying),
but they remember God only rarely and a little.

مُّذَبْذَبِينَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ لاَ إِلَى هَؤُلاء وَلاَ إِلَى هَؤُلاء وَمَن يُضْلِلِ اللّهُ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُ سَبِيلًا

 

143-

They sway between this and that, neither belonging to these and neither to those;
and he whom God lets stray, you will not find any way for him (to find the Truth).

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ لاَ تَتَّخِذُواْ الْكَافِرِينَ أَوْلِيَاء مِن دُونِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَتُرِيدُونَ أَن تَجْعَلُواْ لِلّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ سُلْطَانًا مُّبِينًا

 

144-

O you who believe, do not take the disbelievers as intimate friends-protectors, instead of the believers.
Do you wish to give God a clear evidence against yourselves?

إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِي الدَّرْكِ الأَسْفَلِ مِنَ النَّارِ وَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُمْ نَصِيرًا

 

145-

Indeed, the hypocrites will be in the lowest level of the Fire and you won't find any helper for them.

إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ تَابُواْ وَأَصْلَحُواْ وَاعْتَصَمُواْ بِاللّهِ وَأَخْلَصُواْ دِينَهُمْ لِلّهِ فَأُوْلَئِكَ مَعَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَسَوْفَ يُؤْتِ اللّهُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

 

146-

Except those who repent (from their attitude), correct themselves and do righteous deeds
and hold firm to God ('s words) and purify their religion (faith) solely for God (do not worship anyone but God alone),
they will be with the believers and God shall grant the believers a great reward.

مَّا يَفْعَلُ اللّهُ بِعَذَابِكُمْ إِن شَكَرْتُمْ وَآمَنتُمْ وَكَانَ اللّهُ شَاكِرًا عَلِيمًا

 

147-

What would God accomplish by punishing you if you have been grateful and have believed (in Him).
And God is Ever-Appreciative (of your good deeds), All-knowing (how you behave).

لاَّ يُحِبُّ اللّهُ الْجَهْرَ بِالسُّوَءِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ إِلاَّ مَن ظُلِمَ وَكَانَ اللّهُ سَمِيعًا عَلِيمًا

 

148-

God does not like the shouting of evil words, except by a person who has been wronged.
And God is Ever-All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

إِن تُبْدُواْ خَيْرًا أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ أَوْ تَعْفُواْ عَن سُوَءٍ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّا قَدِيرًا

 

149-

If you do good openly or secretly or if you pardon an evil act (you should know that),
certainly God lets go of many shortcomings and He is All-powerful.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْفُرُونَ بِاللّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَن يُفَرِّقُواْ بَيْنَ اللّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَيقُولُونَ
      نُؤْمِنُ بِبَعْضٍ وَنَكْفُرُ بِبَعْضٍ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَن يَتَّخِذُواْ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ سَبِيلًا

 

150-

Those who disbelieve in God and His Messengers
and wish to make distinction (difference of sayings) between God and His Messengers
and say: "We believe in some but reject others" and try to assume a way (of creed on their own) between these,

أُوْلَئِكَ هُمُ الْكَافِرُونَ حَقًّا وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَافِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا

 

151-

Those are really disbelievers and We have prepared a humiliating suffering for the disbelievers.

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ بِاللّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَلَمْ يُفَرِّقُواْ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّنْهُمْ أُوْلَئِكَ سَوْفَ يُؤْتِيهِمْ أُجُورَهُمْ وَكَانَ اللّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

 

152-

(On the contrary,) those who believe in the One God and His Messengers
and make no distinction between any one of them (the Messengers),
We shall give them their due rewards;
and God is Very Forgiving, Most Merciful (to good people).

يَسْأَلُكَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ أَن تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْهِمْ كِتَابًا مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ فَقَدْ سَأَلُواْ مُوسَى أَكْبَرَ مِن ذَلِكَ فَقَالُواْ أَرِنَا اللّهِ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّاعِقَةُ
      بِظُلْمِهِمْ ثُمَّ اتَّخَذُواْ الْعِجْلَ مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَاءتْهُمُ الْبَيِّنَاتُ فَعَفَوْنَا عَن ذَلِكَ وَآتَيْنَا مُوسَى سُلْطَانًا مُّبِينًا

 

153-

The people of Scripture (the Jews) ask you to cause a book to come down from the sky.
Indeed they asked Moses for a greater (miracle) than that, they even told him: "Show us God clearly",
whereupon they were struck by a thunderbolt because of their wickedness.
Thereafter they took the calf (to worship), after all those clear proofs (of miracles) had come to them.
Even then We pardoned them of that and We gave Moses clear authority.

وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَهُمُ الطُّورَ بِمِيثَاقِهِمْ وَقُلْنَا لَهُمُ ادْخُلُواْ الْبَابَ سُجَّدًا وَقُلْنَا لَهُمْ لاَ تَعْدُواْ فِي السَّبْتِ وَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُم مِّيثَاقًا غَلِيظًا

 

154-

And We placed high the Mount (Sinai) over them for (warning them not to disregard) their covenant
and (at another occasion) We stated: "Enter the gate of the town, bowing-prostrating in humility (to God)"
and We said: "Do not violate the limits of Sabbath"
and We took from them a firm promise (to observe those Commandments).

فَبِمَا نَقْضِهِم مِّيثَاقَهُمْ وَكُفْرِهِم بَآيَاتِ اللّهِ وَقَتْلِهِمُ الأَنْبِيَاءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقًّ وَقَوْلِهِمْ قُلُوبُنَا غُلْفٌ بَلْ طَبَعَ اللّهُ عَلَيْهَا بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَلاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ إِلاَّ قَلِيلًا

 

155-

Thereafter because of their breaking the covenant (the promise) and their disbelief in God's signs and miracles,
and their killing of prophets without any right and their own saying was:
"Our hearts are wrapped-protected (from the prophet's words)",
but (they were being punished) as God set a seal on their hearts on the basis of their rejections and disbelief,
so they do not believe except a few (of them).

وَبِكُفْرِهِمْ وَقَوْلِهِمْ عَلَى مَرْيَمَ بُهْتَانًا عَظِيمًا

 

156-

And because of their disbelief (in Mary and Jesus)
and their stating a grave slander against Mary (accusing her of having had illicit sex),

وَقَوْلِهِمْ إِنَّا قَتَلْنَا الْمَسِيحَ عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ رَسُولَ اللّهِ وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ وَمَا صَلَبُوهُ وَلَكِن شُبِّهَ لَهُمْ وَإِنَّ الَّذِينَ اخْتَلَفُواْ فِيهِ لَفِي شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ مَا لَهُم
      بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِلاَّ اتِّبَاعَ الظَّنِّ وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ يَقِينًا

 

157-

And their claiming: "We killed the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, the Messenger of God!",
but they did not kill him nor did they crucify him (Jesus), but (the man crucified) resembled to them (as Jesus)
and those who have differences of opinion in that matter, are in doubt about it,
they do not have any certain knowledge about it, except they follow their guess. But certainly they did not kill him.

بَل رَّفَعَهُ اللّهُ إِلَيْهِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا

 

158-

But God raised him to Himself (His protective Mercy) and God is Ever-All-powerful, All-wise.

وَإِن مِّنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ إِلاَّ لَيُؤْمِنَنَّ بِهِ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًا

 

159-

And there is none of the people of the Scripture (Jews, Christians and Muslims),
but must certainly believe in him (as a true prophet of God), before his death.
And on the Day of Resurrection, he will be witness on them.

فَبِظُلْمٍ مِّنَ الَّذِينَ هَادُواْ حَرَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ طَيِّبَاتٍ أُحِلَّتْ لَهُمْ وَبِصَدِّهِمْ عَن سَبِيلِ اللّهِ كَثِيرًا

 

160-

Because of the wrongdoing of the Jews, We made unlawful to them, certain good foods which were lawful to them
and because of their hindering many from God's way,

وَأَخْذِهِمُ الرِّبَا وَقَدْ نُهُواْ عَنْهُ وَأَكْلِهِمْ أَمْوَالَ النَّاسِ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَافِرِينَ مِنْهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

 

161-

And their taking of usury, even though they were forbidden to do that
and their devouring of other people's wealth and property wrongfully.
And We have prepared for the disbelievers among them, a painful suffering.

لَّكِنِ الرَّاسِخُونَ فِي الْعِلْمِ مِنْهُمْ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيكَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ وَالْمُقِيمِينَ الصَّلاَةَ وَالْمُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَاةَ
      وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ أُوْلَئِكَ سَنُؤْتِيهِمْ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

 

162-

But those among them, who are deeply rooted in knowledge (of the Scriptures) and the believers,
believe in what has been sent down to you (Muhammad)
and what has been sent down (as Scripture) before you and those who keep up with regular prayers
and give alms to the poor and those who believe in the One God and in the Last Day (of Judgment),
it is they, whom We shall give a great reward.

إِنَّا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ كَمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى نُوحٍ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ مِن بَعْدِهِ وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالأَسْبَاطِ وَعِيسَى وَأَيُّوبَ
     وَيُونُسَ وَهَارُونَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَآتَيْنَا دَاوُودَ زَبُورًا

 

163-

We have certainly revealed to you (Muhammad), just as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him
and We revealed to Abraham, to Ishmael, to Isaac, to Jacob and to the (offspring of the twelve) tribes,
and to Jesus, to Job, to Jonah, to Aaron, and to Solomon
and to David, We gave (the Book of) Psalms.

وَرُسُلًا قَدْ قَصَصْنَاهُمْ عَلَيْكَ مِن قَبْلُ وَرُسُلًا لَّمْ نَقْصُصْهُمْ عَلَيْكَ وَكَلَّمَ اللّهُ مُوسَى تَكْلِيمًا

 

164-

And to Messengers, about whom We have already mentioned to you before
and to Messengers which We did not mention to you yet
and to Moses, God spoke directly.

رُّسُلًا مُّبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ لِئَلاَّ يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى اللّهِ حُجَّةٌ بَعْدَ الرُّسُلِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا

 

165-

Messengers, bringing good news (for the believers) and warning (against evil),
so that there will not be any excuse of argument for people vis-à-vis God (claiming they did not receive any messages),
after all the Messengers (' explanations), and God is Ever-All-Powerful, All-Wise.

لَّكِنِ اللّهُ يَشْهَدُ بِمَا أَنزَلَ إِلَيْكَ أَنزَلَهُ بِعِلْمِهِ وَالْمَلآئِكَةُ يَشْهَدُونَ وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ شَهِيدًا

 

166-

But God bears witness that, what He has sent down to you (Muhammad),
He has revealed it down from His Own Knowledge, and the angels bear witness (to this truth),
though God Alone is Sufficient as a witness.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَصَدُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِ اللّهِ قَدْ ضَلُّواْ ضَلاَلًا بَعِيدًا

 

167-

Those who disbelieved and prevented people from coming to the way of God
(from believing in the truth of the revelation to Muhammad),
have certainly strayed off far away (from the truth).

 إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَظَلَمُواْ لَمْ يَكُنِ اللّهُ لِيَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ وَلاَ لِيَهْدِيَهُمْ طَرِيقًا

 

168-

Indeed, those who disbelieved and did injustice (by hiding the truth of the coming of Muhammad in the Bible) ,
God will in no way forgive them, nor guide them in any way,   8

إِلاَّ طَرِيقَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى اللّهِ يَسِيرًا

 

169-

Except the way to Hell, to dwell in there forever and this is very easy for God.

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءكُمُ الرَّسُولُ بِالْحَقِّ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ فَآمِنُواْ خَيْرًا لَّكُمْ وَإِن تَكْفُرُواْ فَإِنَّ لِلَّهِ
      مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

 

170-

O mankind, truly the Messenger (Muhammad) has come to you with the Truth from your Lord.
So believe in him, it is better for you.
But if you deny and reject the Revelation (to Muhammad, you should know that),
indeed to God belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth and God is ever All-knowing, All-Wise.

يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لاَ تَغْلُواْ فِي دِينِكُمْ وَلاَ تَقُولُواْ عَلَى اللّهِ إِلاَّ الْحَقِّ إِنَّمَا الْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ وَكَلِمَتُهُ أَلْقَاهَا
      إِلَى مَرْيَمَ وَرُوحٌ مِّنْهُ فَآمِنُواْ بِاللّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَلاَ تَقُولُواْ ثَلاَثَةٌ انتَهُواْ خَيْرًا لَّكُمْ إِنَّمَا اللّهُ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ سُبْحَانَهُ أَن يَكُونَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ لَّهُ
      مَا فِي السَّمَاوَات وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ وَكِيلًا

 

171-

O people of the Scripture (Jews, Christians and Muslims),
do not exaggerate in your religion and do not say anything about God except in truth.
The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary was indeed (no more than) a Messenger of God
and was created by a Word of Command (of God), which He granted to (the body of) Mary
and a spirit created by His Command,
Therefore believe in the One God and His Messenger and do not say:
"Trinity, three gods", stop saying it; that is better for you.
As God is truly One, Glory is His,
He is beyond that He would have a son.
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth
and God Alone is Sufficient as the Manager (of the heavens and the earth).

لَّن يَسْتَنكِفَ الْمَسِيحُ أَن يَكُونَ عَبْدًا لِّلّهِ وَلاَ الْمَلآئِكَةُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ وَمَن يَسْتَنكِفْ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِ وَيَسْتَكْبِرْ فَسَيَحْشُرُهُمْ إِلَيهِ جَمِيعًا

 

172-

Never did The Messiah avoid being a Servant to God , nor the angels, near (to God's commands)
and whoever rejects His worship and is arrogant, (should know that)
then He will gather them all to Himself (for questioning).

فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ فَيُوَفِّيهِمْ أُجُورَهُمْ وَيَزيدُهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِ وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ اسْتَنكَفُواْ وَاسْتَكْبَرُواْ فَيُعَذِّبُهُمْ
      عَذَابًا أَلُيمًا وَلاَ يَجِدُونَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ وَلِيًّا وَلاَ نَصِيرًا

 

173-

Then those who had believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them their due rewards
and will even give them more of His Bounty.
But those who declined (His worship) and were arrogant, He will punish them with a painful suffering
and they won't find besides God, any friend-protector nor any helper.

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءكُم بُرْهَانٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَأَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ نُورًا مُّبِينًا

 

174-

O mankind, indeed a decisive proof (of guidance) has come to you from your Lord
and We have sent down to you a manifest light (The Quran).

فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ بِاللّهِ وَاعْتَصَمُواْ بِهِ فَسَيُدْخِلُهُمْ فِي رَحْمَةٍ مِّنْهُ وَفَضْلٍ وَيَهْدِيهِمْ إِلَيْهِ صِرَاطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا

 

175-

So, as for those who have believed in God and hold fast to Him (His guidance),
He will admit them into His Mercy and a superior Grace of His (to higher level of understanding)
and will guide them the straight direct path to Him (to be ever closer and more conscious of Him).

يَسْتَفْتُونَكَ قُلِ اللّهُ يُفْتِيكُمْ فِي الْكَلاَلَةِ إِنِ امْرُؤٌ هَلَكَ لَيْسَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ وَلَهُ أُخْتٌ فَلَهَا نِصْفُ مَا تَرَكَ
      وَهُوَ يَرِثُهَآ إِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّهَا وَلَدٌ فَإِن كَانَتَا اثْنَتَيْنِ فَلَهُمَا الثُّلُثَانِ مِمَّا تَرَكَ وَإِن كَانُواْ إِخْوَةً رِّجَالًا
      وَنِسَاء فَلِلذَّكَرِ مِثْلُ حَظِّ الأُنثَيَيْنِ يُبَيِّنُ اللّهُ لَكُمْ أَن تَضِلُّواْ وَاللّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

 

176-

They ask you (Muhammad) for a legal verdict (regarding a person who dies, leaving neither offspring nor parents).
Say: "God directs you in the case of 'kalalah' (such a person without having offspring or parent as heirs):
If it is a man who dies, has no child but has a sister, half of the inheritance will be hers.
And if a woman dies and she doesn't have any children, then the brother inherits all.
If there are two sisters left, they shall receive two-thirds of the inheritance of what is left.
If there are siblings, both men and women, then the male shall have twice the share of the female.
Thus God clarifies the verdict for you, so that you would not go stray
and God is Ever-Knowing of all things (situations, conditions, results etc)."
