Translation of the Holy Quran by Dr.
Gilani |
Jonah - Chapter 10
|
Contains 109 Verses – Mecca |
|
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
|
|
1- |
Alif - Lam - Ra (from Allah to the Messenger),
these are Verses of the Book, full of wisdom. |
|
2- |
Is it a strange thing for people to realize
that We have inspired Our Revelation
to a man from among
themselves, (telling him):
"Warn mankind (to wakeup) and give good news to those who
believe that they are in sincere step
and
attitude before their Lord".
But those who deny the Truth say:
“This (man, the prophet) is really an evident sorcerer”. |
|
3- |
Truly your Lord is the God who has created
the heavens and the earth in six periods.
He also gave
harmony to the dominion of the universe.
He directs all matters of the universe by design.
There is no one to intercede and to plead
(with Him) except after His Permission.
That is God, your Lord,
so worship Him (Alone and no one else).
Wouldn't you then not keep this
in mind (that you should only worship Him)? |
|
4- |
To Him shall be the return of all of you.
The Promise of God is true.
Indeed He is the One Who began the
creation (in the first place)
and He also repeats it (the
resurrection of the dead into the everlasting life),
so that He
will reward those who believed and did righteous deeds with
justice and fairness.
But those who disbelieved and denied, will
have a drink of boiling fluids
and painful suffering because of
the fact that they rejected and disbelieved. |
|
5- |
He is the One Who made the sun a source of
light and the moon as a light medium
and decided for it to go
through various stages and locations,
so that you may learn to
know the number of years and calculation.
God did not create
this but for (explanation of) the Truth.
He explains the Verses in
detail for people who have knowledge (to understand). |
|
6- |
Certainly in the changes of night and day
and in all that God has created in the heavens and earth,
there
are Signs (of His Majesty and Might) for people who are
conscious and in awe of Him |
|
7- |
Of course those who do not desire or expect
meeting Us (in the Hereafter)
and they are just happy with the
life of this world and they feel certain that it is all (and no
Everlasting Life)
and those who are not paying attention to Our Signs and Verses, |
|
8- |
Those are the kind of people whose final
destination will be the Fire
as a result of what (negative
points) they had been earning. |
|
9- |
But those who believe and do righteous works,
indeed God will guide them because of their Faith,
they will be in the Gardens of Bliss and Delight (in Paradise),
below which
streams and rivers flow. |
|
10- |
Their expression and prayer there will
be: "Glory to You O God”.
And their greeting there will be
“Salam; (peace and safety from any harm to you)”
and at the conclusion, their other
comment will be: “In reality all praise and thanks are
really due to God,
the Lord of all that exist”. |
|
11- |
If God were to approve hastily the evil
which mankind desires so much,
similar to their hastily wanting every good
benefit (which He answers in their prayers),
they would be finished and their grace period of life would come to
end (immediately),
but then We leave for a while, those who
do not believe or expect in meeting Us
(and do not expect Our
Judgment), free in their trespasses and rebellion,
so that they blindly stumble
here and there. |
|
12- |
And when harm touches the human being, he
would call Us being on his side or sitting or standing.
But then when We
have removed his harm from him,
he goes on as if he never called Us regarding the harm that had
touched him.
Thus their behavior
and what they have been doing, seem fair to those who go
overboard and waste their beings. |
|
13- |
And indeed We have destroyed generation of
people before you because of their wrongdoings.
And their Messengers came to them with clear clarifying messages
but they were not going to believe in them.
So We punish the sinful people. |
|
14- |
Then We made you their successors to see how
you behave. |
|
15- |
And when Our Clear Verses are being read to
them, those do not expect the meeting with Us, said:
“Bring us a
Quran other than this or change it.”
Say: “It is not for me to
change it on my own imagination.
I do not follow except that which is
revealed to me.
I certainly fear to disobey my Lord, (with the
result of) the suffering on the Great Day (of Judgment).” |
|
16- |
Say (O Muhammad): “If God had so willed, I
would not have read it to you,
nor would He have made it known
to you.
But then I spent a lifetime amongst you before this (and
I never lied to you),
why don’t you use then your reasoning?" |
|
17- |
Furthermore, who is more wicked and unjust
than he who would invent a lie attributing it to God
or would
call His Verses as lies?
Surely those who commit such mischief
and crimes, would never succeed. |
|
18- |
And they worship
other than God, things that neither harm, nor benefit them
and
they say: “These are intercessors (means of communication) with
God”.
Say: “Are you (saying that you’re)
informing God of
something which
He does not know in the heavens, nor on the
earth?”
Glorified and Exalted is He above all that they
associate (with Him). |
|
19- |
And (know that) mankind was only one single
community (and on monotheistic belief),
later they started to
have different opinions; and had it not been for the Decree Word
from your Lord
(to allow mankind time to reason freely), the
matter in which they differ would have been already settled
(and there
wouldn’t have been any differences of opinions). |
|
20- |
And they (the disbelievers) say:
“Why is not
any miraculous sign sent down to him (Muhammad) from his Lord?”
Say then: “In fact the knowledge of the unseen belongs to God;
then wait (for His Decision),
indeed I am waiting with you also". |
|
21- |
And even when We let (such) people taste and enjoy (some of Our) Mercy after hardship had reached them,
then (instead of gratitude) they come up with devising false
arguments against Our Verses and Lessons (of the Quran).
Say:
(to them) “God is Swifter in planning”.
Our messengers (angels) are
recording whatever you devise and plot (against Our Words).
|
|
22- |
He is the One who enables you to travel on
land and sea;
so that when you (people) are in the ships and they
sail with a nice favorable wind and they are enjoying it,
then
there comes a stormy wind and waves come upon them from everywhere
and
they think that they have been encircled and are being
overwhelmed.
(In such a situation)
they call upon God with pure Faith unto Him Alone, (praying):
“
If You (God) deliver and save us from this, we shall certainly
be from among the grateful ones”. |
|
23- |
And when He saves them, they then rebel and
disobey in the land without any right (or reason).
O people,
your misdeeds are all against yourselves.
The fleeting brief
enjoyment of life in this word (will pass), then to Us shall be
your return
and We shall then inform you of all that you had
been doing. |
|
24- |
In fact the likeness of (your brief) life of
this word is like (the situation) that We sent water down from the
sky,
so that then the plants of earth grew intermingled (with
produces) of which people and cattle eat,
such that the land
becomes adorned and beautiful
and its inhabitants think that they have power and control over
it.
There comes Our Command by
night or by day and We make it dried up like a mowed-down field
as if
there was no flourishing there yesterday.
Thus We explain Our
Verses and Lessons for people who reflect and think. |
|
25- |
And (know that) God invites (mankind) towards
the Home and State of peace
(peace of mind here in this earthly
life for people by being God-conscious and everlasting peace in
Paradise)
and He guides whom He wills (and he or she wants to be
guided) unto the straight and correct direction. |
|
26- |
For the people who did good, there shall be
the ultimate goodness and even more;
and neither dust of darkness, nor any humiliation will overshadow their faces.
It is
they who are the inhabitants of Paradise who will remain therein
forever. |
|
27- |
But as for those who have earned evil deeds,
the measure of retribution shall be like it, and humiliating
disgrace shall cover them.
They will have no defender from God
(‘s Punishment).
It will be as if their faces are darkened similar to the night’s darkness.
Those are the dwellers of Fire, in
which they will remain forever. |
|
28- |
And on the Day on which We gather them
altogether,
then We shall say to those who associated (partners in divinity
to Us):
“Stand at your place, you and those (beings and
powers) to whom you ascribed as being part of God’s divinity".
Then We
shall separate between them.
And their so called partners shall
say: “You were not worshipping us”. |
|
29- |
So God is Sufficient as Witness between us
and you, as we were unaware that you were worshipping us. |
|
30- |
There every person will understand what he
(or she) had done in the past
and will be brought back to God,
their true Lord
and all their false deities will disappear from
them. |
|
31- |
Say: “Who provides for you from the sky and
the earth?
Or Who owns the hearing and the sight (of living beings)?
And Who brings out living beings from the dead matter and Who brings
about death of the living beings?
And Who directs and manages the total affair (of the Universes)
?
They will then say: “God”.
Say then; "Why aren't you then conscious of Him?" |
|
32- |
Such is God, your Lord, the Ultimate Truth.
So what else can there be after (neglecting) The Truth other
than confusion and error?
How then do you let yourselves turn
away from the Truth? |
|
33- |
Such is The Word of Command of your Lord,
justified on those who disobey and engage in sinful acts that
as the result, they won’t (have the capacity to) believe. |
|
34- |
Say; “Is there anyone of your so called
‘God-associates’ who could ever initiate creation and then repeat it?
Say: "It is God Who initiates the creation and it is He Who brings
it back,
so why do you make up stories?". |
|
35- |
Say: “Does any of your so called
“God-associates” guides to the truth?”
Say (and explain that):
“God guides to the Truth.
Is then He Who guides to the Truth,
more justified to be followed
or someone who can not guide, unless he himself is guided?
Then what is the matter with you?
How (and by
what measure and reason) do you judge?” |
|
36- |
And most of them follow none other than a
guessing.
Of course guessing and conjecture are not sufficient
at all to find and perceive the truth.
Surely God is All Aware of
all that they do. |
|
37- |
And this Quran is not such as to ever having
been produced other than by God,
but it is the confirmation of
that which is available (from previous Revelations)
and it is
the comprehensive explanation of the Book,
in which there is no
doubt that it is from the Lord of the worlds (the Lord of all its
inhabitants). |
|
38- |
Yet they (the disbelievers) say: “He
(Muhammad) made it up.”
Say: “Bring about then a chapter like it
and call anyone that you can,
other than God, to help you, if
you think you are right and you are telling the truth”. |
|
39- |
But they call it a lie because they did not
comprehend the knowledge which is in it
and so its inner meaning
did not reach them yet.
This is how those before them called
(The Revelations of God) as lies.
Then consider how was the end situation
of the unjust wrongdoers. |
|
40- |
And from among them, there are those who
(would come to) believe in it
and there are those from amongst
them who won’t believe in it
and your Lord is All Aware of the
evil doers. |
|
41- |
And if they call you a liar, say:
“I am
responsible for my acts and deeds and you are accountable for
your behavior.
You are not accountable for what I do and I am
not responsible for what you do.” |
|
42- |
And from amongst them, there are those who
just pretend that they are listening to you,
but can you make the person who
is deaf (to the truth), able to listen, even though they do not use their
reason? |
|
43- |
And from amongst them, there are those who
pretend to look at you,
but then can you guide a person who is
blind (to the truth),
even though they are in a state in which they
can not see (the truth)? |
|
44- |
Truly, God does not do wrong to mankind, but it
is the people who do wrong to themselves (and to others). |
|
45- |
And on the Day (of Resurrection) when He
gathers them (for Judgment),
it is as if they did not spend (in the life of this world) not
more than an hour of a day.
They will
recognize each other (there).
Certainly those who called the
Meeting with God, as a lie,
have lost every thing and they were not
wanting to be guided. |
|
46- |
And whether We will show you (Muhammad) some
of (the punishment,)
which We promise them (during your
lifetime) or after We cause you to die; at any rate their return
is to Us,
moreover God is Ever Witness over all that they do. |
|
47- |
And each nation has had a Messenger (of God)
and after their Messenger appeared
(and delivered the Message of
God),
the matters were dealt with and judged in justice and
fairness between and they are not wronged,
and they will
not be wronged (in the Hereafter).
1 |
|
48- |
And they say: “ When will be this promise (of
the Day of Judgment), if you are being truthful?” |
|
49- |
Say (to them): “ I have no power to avert any
harm from my own being
or
bring any benefit to myself except such as God may want.
For every
people and every nation, there is a term set (by God) and when their
term comes to an end,
neither can they delay it by a single hour, nor can they advance it at all. |
|
50- |
Say: “Have you ever considered if His
punishment arrives at you by night or by day,
what prospect (of
any benefit) is there in it that the criminal sinners wish to
hasten it?” |
|
51- |
Did you believe in it after it occurred, now?
And you indeed (during your lifetime) kept on wanting it to happen soon. |
|
52- |
Moreover it will be announced to the wrongdoers, unjust people:
“Taste the everlasting torment.
Are you being given back other than
what you used to earn (by your wrong behavior)? |
|
53- |
And they ask you: "Is that true
(the Day of Judgment and the Hereafter)?"
Say: “Yes, and by my
Lord that it is absolutely true and that you can not prevent or
escape it.” |
|
54- |
And if anyone who committed injustice
(by disbelief in God or worshipping others or committing other
injustices),
possessed whatever is on earth, would certainly want
to offer it to bail or ransom out of it
and they will feel great
regret in their hearts when they see the torment coming
and it
will be judged in justice and fairness between them and they
won’t be wronged at all. |
|
55- |
Be aware, to God belongs whatever is in the
heavens and the earth.
Be aware, certainly the promise of God is
true, but most of them do not know it. |
|
56- |
He alone gives life and causes death and to
Him you shall return. |
|
57- |
O you people, an advice (the Quran) has come to
you from your Lord
and a cure for all (the ills) that is the
hearts and a Guidance and Mercy for the believers. |
|
58- |
Say: “It is by the Favor and Grace of God,
yes
in these should people rejoice.
That is better and more
important than (the wealth) that they gather (and rejoice about
it)". |
|
59- |
(O Muhammad) Say:
“Have
you considered all the means of nourishment and living that God
has sent down for you?
And you call some of them ‘unlawful’ and some ‘lawful’ ”?
Say: “Did God allow you (to say so) or you
made it up and attribute it to God?” |
|
60- |
And what do people who fabricate a lie
and attribute it to God, think (will happen to them on)
the Day
of Resurrection and Judgment?
Indeed God is limitless in His
Favor and Bounty to mankind, but most of them are ungrateful. |
|
61- |
And in whatever situation or activity you
may be in, or whichever portion of the Quran you read
and whatever
kind of work (good or bad) you people perform, (be mindful) that
We are Witness upon you,
when you start doing it.
And
nothing even the size of an atom’s weight in earth, nor in the heaven
is hidden or escapes from your Lord,
and nothing neither smaller
than that, nor larger exists except that it is all in the Book of
Decrees (Decisions). |
|
62- |
Remember, certainly those close to God, shall
not have fear, nor shall they grieve and be sad. |
|
63- |
Those who have believed (in Him, in the
Hereafter, in His Revelation) and have ever been conscious of
Him. |
|
64- |
Good news are for them in the life of
this world and in the Hereafter.
There is no changing of God’s
Words of Promise.
That is really the supreme success. |
|
65- |
And let their sayings (against you) not make
you sad, for in reality all might and glory belongs to God.
He
is ever All Hearing, All Knowing. |
|
66- |
Behold, to God belongs whatever and whoever
is in the heavens and on the earth.
And all those which they call upon and worship other than God,
and follow (them) as if they were His associates,
they are nothing but guess and imagination
and they only try to
invent something that has no reality. |
|
67- |
He is the One Who provided the night for
you to rest during its calmness
and the day to make things
visible to you.
In fact there are signs and messages (of His
Wisdom) in this observation for people who (are willing to) listen. |
|
68- |
They (many Christians, some Jews and
polytheist people) say: “God has begotten a son!!”
He is beyond
all this (imagination) and He is Needless (of having any child).
All that is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him.
You
have no proof or authority to make this statement.
Are you saying something about or against God that you have
no knowledge of? |
|
69- |
Say: “Certainly those who invent lies
about God, won’t succeed.” |
|
70- |
(They desire) a brief enjoyment (of feeling
important as priest or having material gains by that statement),
but at the end, their ultimate return is to Us,
then We make them
taste the severe punishment and suffering that they deserve,
because of what they used to hide and used to deny the truth (of the
Oneness of God). |
|
71- |
And read to them the story of Noah when
he said to his people:
“O my people, if my staying here and my
reminding you of God’s Verses (of instruction) is too much on
you,
then in God I put my trust (to protect me from your plots).
So consult your affairs and your partners (for decision) altogether
so that there would be no doubt in your decision.
Then
pass your sentence on me and give me no chance". |
|
72- |
But if you turn away (from accepting the
One God),
I did not ask you for any payment (for my advice to
you);
my reward is only by God and I have
been commanded to be of those
who submit themselves (to the will
of God) as Muslims. |
|
73- |
They then rejected and called him a liar.
Thereafter We saved him and those who were in the ship with him
and made them as generations thereafter and We drowned those who called
Our Verses as lies.
See then how was the end situation of those
who were warned (and did not heed Our Warnings). |
|
74- |
Then We commissioned other Messengers, after
him, to their people.
They came and reached out to
them with clear evidence and proofs (of the Oneness of God),
but
they were not going to believe what they already had rejected
before.
Thus We seal (shut) the hearts of those who go beyond the
limits (of opportunity to receive God’s Guidance). |
|
75- |
Then after them, We commissioned Moses
and Aaron to go to the Pharaoh and his court people,
with Our
clear Verses.
But they (were not going to believe in and) they behaved
arrogantly
and they were a bunch of habitual sinners and
criminals. |
|
76- |
And when the Word of Truth from Us reached
them, they said: “This is certainly an evident magic”. |
|
77- |
Moses said: “Are you saying this about
the truth that has come to you?
Is this magic?
But ultimately the
magicians won’t ultimately succeed”. |
|
78- |
They said: “ Did the two of you come to us to detach
us from the faith and the way of life
that we found our fathers were
following so that there would be greatness
and power in the
land for the two of you?
We are not going to believe either one of you”. |
|
79- |
And the Pharaoh said: “Bring to me all
knowledgeable and skilled magicians”. |
|
80- |
And when the magicians arrived, Moses told
them: “Throw and show what you are going to cast”. |
|
81- |
And when they had cast them, Moses said:
“What you have brought about, is sorcery and magic.
God will
surely make it invalid.
Certainly God does not set right the
work of corrupt evildoers”. |
|
82- |
And God will make the truth to be realized by
His Words, even though the habitual sinners hate it. |
|
83- |
But no one believed in Moses except the
offspring of his people,
for fear of the Pharaoh and his court people, hoping they would
not persecute them
and indeed Pharaoh was an
arrogant tyrant and one of the excessive trespassers (of human
limit). |
|
84- |
And Moses said: “O my people, if you have
really believed in God,
then have trust in Him if you are
submitting your will to Him as Muslims. |
|
85- |
They then said: “In God we trust. Our
Lord, please do not let us be at the mercy of
and exposed to
persecution and trial by evil-mongering people”, |
|
86- |
“And save us by Your Mercy from disbelieving
folks.” |
|
87- |
And We revealed to Moses and his brother
(Aaron) to provide houses for your people in Egypt,
and make your
houses as places of worship and keep up with prayers
and give good news to the believers. |
|
88- |
And Moses said: “O our Lord, You have
indeed granted on the Pharaoh and his court people
splendor,
luxury and much wealth in the life of this world,
our Lord, with
their ability to mislead people away from Your Path.
O our Lord, please wipe out their riches and harden their hearts
(to decrease their minds so they won't have the ability to harm
people)
as they will not believe the truth
until they see the painful suffering”. |
|
89- |
God answered: “The prayer of the two of you (Moses and Aaron) has been answered.
So you both keep up (the
good works)
and do not follow the path of those who do not have
the knowledge (of right and wrong). |
|
90- |
And We brought the Children of Israel
across the see safely,
then the Pharaoh with his army people
followed them with the intent of oppression and hostility
till
when drowning overtook him, then he said:
“ I believe that there
is no one worthy of worship except the One in Whom the Children
of Israel have believed
and I am also one of those who submit
themselves to Him as Muslims”. |
|
91- |
(God said): Now (you believe)?
While you
had been rebellious before and were spreading evil and
corruption. |
|
92- |
So today We shall deliver your corpse
(out from the sea) so that you (and your destiny)
may become a
(warning) sign to all those who come to live after you.
And
indeed many hoards of people are heedless of Our warning signs.

|
|
93- |
And We indeed settled the Children of Israel
thereafter in a nice environment
and We provided them with good
food and livelihood
and they did not have different opinions
till after the knowledge (from God) had reached them.
Certainly your Lord will
judge between them on the Day of Resurrection
regarding the
matters in which they have had different opinions.

|
94- |
So then if you (Muhammad) had any doubt about
the subject that We have revealed to you
(regarding your
prophethood, as mentioned in the Torah and Gospel),
then ask
those who read the Book (the Torah and the Gospel) before you.
Truly the truth has come to you from your Lord, so don’t be of
those who doubt it. |
|
95- |
And don’t be one of those who belied the
Verses of God and then would be one of the losers. |
|
96- |
In fact those on whom the Command Word
(of punishment) from your Lord has been justified
(because of
their persistence and rebellion in disbelief), they won’t (be
able to) believe (anymore). |
|
97- |
And even if any Verse or Sign should
have come to them, (they won’t believe)
till they see the
painful suffering (in the Hereafter). |
|
98- |
But then there was never a community that
(right away) would believe
(in the Oneness of God and the prophet) so that its faith then would benefit it except the people of Jonah;
when they believed, We removed from them the suffering of
disgrace in the life of this world
and let them enjoy for a
while. |
|
99- |
And if your Lord had willed, all those on
the earth would have believed, all of them together.
So are you
(Muhammad) trying to force mankind to become believers? |
|
100- |
And it is not possible for anyone to
come to believe except by the Will of God
and He lets impurity and corruption on
those who do not use their reasoning
(and allow themselves to believe in just anything without
reasoning) . |
|
101- |
Tell (them): “Just look at the (Majesty
of God’s Creation) in what is in the heavens and the earth”.
But neither lessons or warnings won’t be sufficient for people
who don’t (want to) believe. |
|
102- |
Are they then waiting for anything other than the
destiny of the days of those people who passed away before them?
(O Muhammad) Say: “So wait, I am certainly waiting along with you”. |
|
103- |
Then (at the end) We save Our Messengers
and those who believe.
That is right, that is of course a decision by Us to save
the believers. |
|
104- |
(O Muhammad) Say: “O mankind, if you are
in any doubt about my religion (of Islam),
then (know that) I will never worship those which you worship other than God,
but I
worship only God, Who will cause you to die and I am commanded
(by God)
that I should remain one of the believers”. |
|
105- |
And (it is revealed to me:) “Direct your
attention up towards the true religion (believing in the One
God)
and never be along the polytheists (those who associate
others with God)”. |
|
106- |
And do not pray to other than God, to
someone or something that does not have the power to benefit or
harm you.
And if you commit doing such thing, then you would be
along the unjust evil behaving people”. |
|
107- |
And (know that) if God makes a harm touch
you, there is no one who can remove it, except He
and if He
intends something good for you, then there is no one who can
stop or hold back His Favor;
He lets it reach whomever He wants
of His servants
and He is the Very Forgiving, Most Merciful (to
good people). |
|
108- |
Say; “O Muhammad, Truth (Quran) indeed
has come to you from your Lord.
So whoever accepts Guidance, then he or she receives the benefit
of Guidance for himself (or
herself)
and whoever goes away astray, then he (or she) does so
against his or her own being
and that I (Muhammad) am not responsible
or a defending attorney for you”. |
|
109- |
And (O Muhammad), follow the Revelations
sent to you
and be patient in adversity till God shall give Judgment and He
is the Best of all Judges. |
1
No one is wronged by the Rules of God. It
is the arrogant people with wrong intentions and so with perverted
interpretations who cause harm to others, in the name of a religion, or an
ideology such as democracy or some other ideologies
2
The corpse of the Pharaoh was found in the 20th century and was examined
by Dr. Maurice Bucaille, the French surgeon who accepted Islam because
he found out that only in the Quran, the salvage of his corpse was
mentioned and not in the Bible. His corpse is presently at the Egyptian
Museum
