Thunder - Chapter 13
|
Contains 43 Verses – Mecca |
|
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious the Most Merciful
|
|
|
1- |
Alif-Lam-Mim-Raa (From Allah to Muhammad
Rasool, Messenger);
these are the Verses of the Book (of God)
and that which has been revealed to you (Muhammad) from your
Lord is the Truth, but most people won't believe. |
|
2- |
God is the One Who raised the skies high without any column that you could see.
He also made the universe harmonious and subjected the sun and the moon,
1
all (heavenly bodies) and each running (its course) for a
determined period.
He designs, manages and regulates the whole
affair.
He explains the signs and Verses (of His Majesty) in
detail so that you gain certainty
about the ultimate meeting
with your Lord.
|
|
3- |
And He is the One who spread out the earth
and placed solid firm mountains in it and rivers,
and of all
kinds of fruits and produces, He made two pairs and varieties.
He causes the night to cover over the day.
Certainly in (studying)
these phenomena, there are signs of His (Knowledge and Might)
for people who think and reflect. |
|
4- |
And on earth, He made possible neighboring
farm tracts and gardens of vines and crop fields and date
palm trees,
growing into two or more from a single stem root or otherwise
(one stem root for every palm),
being watered with the same
water, yet We made some of them superior in taste than others.
Certainly in these phenomena, there are signs (of God’s creative
Majesty) for people who would use their reasoning. |
|
5- |
And if you wonder (how unbelievers deny God),
it is their saying which is noticeable (when they say):
“When we become dust, do we really become alive again later in a
new creation?”.
They are
the kind of people who refuse to believe in their Master
(Creator).
They are the ones who will have chains on their necks
(bound by their disbelief), and they will be dwellers of Fire,
to stay there forever (burning in regret why they refused their
Creator). |
|
6- |
And they challenge you to cause something
bad to happen to them before even considering the goodness
(and
blessings of belief in God), while many exemplary punishments
have indeed occurred before them.
And certainly your Lord is
full of Forgiveness to mankind in their wrong behavior.
But your
Lord is also severe in punishment (for those who knowingly
insist on wrong-doing). |
|
7- |
And the disbelievers say: “Why isn’t there
any miraculous sign sent down to him from his Lord?”
You are
only a warner (not a miracle producer) and to every community
there had been a guide. |
|
8- |
God knows what every female bears and when
the deliveries will be, sooner or later (than the usual
term).
And everything has a measure and amount decided by Him, |
|
9- |
God is the All Knowing of the invisible and the
visible, the Most Great, the Most High. |
|
10- |
It is the same (to Him) if anyone of you
conceals or speaks out his words,
whether he hides himself in
the night or goes openly by the day. |
|
11- |
For each person, there are angels following
before and behind that person to guard him or her by the Command of
God.
Indeed God does not change the situation of a people till
they change their state of mind.
But when God decides a
punishment for a people, there won't be any turning back of it
and they will have no protector other than Him. |
|
12- |
He is the One, Who shows you the
lightning as a fear (of its possible damages)
or as a sign of
hope (for those who wish for rain)
and He does bring up the
clouds, heavy (with water) |
|
13- |
And the thunder glorifies Him in praise and so do the angels by His
awe.
He sends the thunderbolts and
with it strikes whom He wills,
yet they (the disbelievers) are
arguing about (the existence of) God,
while He is the Only One Mighty to bring about
any condition He wills. |
|
14- |
The true prayer is only due to Him alone and
all those others that (the disbelievers) pray to other than Him,
have no ability to respond to them at all,
similar to a person who
stretches his hands to reach water to bring it to his mouth
but
he can not reach it; and all the prayer of the disbelievers is
only
in error and in the wrong direction. |
|
15- |
And to God prostrates whoever or whatever
is in the heavens and the earth,
willingly or unwillingly just as their shadows do in the morning and about the end of the
days.
2 |
|
16- |
(O Muhammad) say: “Who is the Master of
the heavens and the earth?”
Say (to them again) : “God”.
Say (by asking them): “Have you then (despite the fact that God is the
Master of Heavens and earth)
yet chosen to assume others than
Him as your protectors, whereas they have no power to benefit
or harm even themselves?”
Ask again: ”Is a blind equal to to some one who can observe?
Or are darknesses (of ignorance) the same as the light
(of guidance)?
Or are
they assuming partners with God, which have created anything
similar to His creation,
so that (the creation they made and
His) creation appeared alike to them?”
say: “God is the One, who
created everything, and He is the Unique, the Irresistible.” |
|
17- |
He sends down water from the sky and
(through) the valleys, flow streams according to their capacity
and the current carries away the foam that builds up on the
surface (of slow flow areas),
and also from those (metals and
other materials) that people place in fire in order to produce
ornaments
and other products, a foam builds up similar to that.
Such does God make example of truth and reality versus wrong and
falsehood.
Now then as to the foam, it passes away as scum on
the bank (of river or the ocean).
But what really benefits
people is that (the water) which stays in earth.
Such does God
make examples (so people don’t hold unto false gods or imaginary
partners to God). |
|
18- |
For people who responded their Lord’s call
(to believe in One God, the Hereafter and did good deeds,) there
will be excellent reward.
But those who do not respond to His call,
even if they had all that is in earth and the like of that with
it,
to offer it as ransom (in the Hereafter, to be released, they
won't be released).
For them there will be an awful reckoning.
Their
dwelling will be Hell which is indeed the worst resting place. |
|
19- |
Is then the position and status of a person who
knows that
what has been revealed to you (Muhammad) from you
Lord, is the truth,
same as someone who is blind (to this truth of
the Quran)?
Certainly only the people of reasoning and
understanding notice this, |
|
20- |
Those who fulfill their promise with God
and who do not break the treaty (with Him), |
|
21- |
And those who join the connections and bands (of kinship,
family and friendship)
that God has commanded to be joined and are in
awe of their Lord and fear the result and reckoning of bad deeds
(which God has forbidden) |
|
22- |
And those who remained patient and
steadfast (in difficult times as well),
to reach the closeness and approval of their Lord
and kept up regular prayers
and spent in
charity from what We provided for them in secret or openly
and
confront and remove evil with goodness, such persons will have the good
final lasting home, |
|
23- |
Everlasting Gardens (of Paradise), which they
shall enter and also those who acted righteously
from among
their fathers (parents and ancestors) and spouses and their off-springs.
And the
angels arrive from every gate and direction, (greeting them), |
|
24- |
(Saying:) "Peace be upon you because you
persevered
patiently. So what an excellent final home you have ". |
|
25- |
But those who break the promise after
they had firmly made with God
and cut off the relations that God
has commanded to be joined and make mischief on earth,
they will
get the curse (deprivation from God’s Mercy) and an evil final
place (because of their evil behavior). |
|
26- |
God increases and widens the amount of
livelihood for whomever He wants
and (similarly) He limits it
(for whomever He wants),
and some people are so happy about the
pleasures of their worldly life,
whereas the life in this world
is but trivial and brief enjoyment, compared to the coming life in
the Hereafter. |
|
27- |
And those who disbelieve say:
”Why isn’t
there a miracle sent down to him (Muhammad) from his Lord?”
Say:
“God lets in error whom He regards unworthy and guides towards
Himself (His way) those who turn to Him,
asking His forgiveness
and Help.” |
|
28- |
Those who believed (in the Oneness of God)
and their hearts become certain
and calm by frequently
remembering God.
Behold that by remembering God, hearts and minds find peace and calmness! |
|
29- |
Those who have believed and work
righteous good deeds,
will have a blessed life and a beautiful
place of (final) return (in the Hereafter). |
|
30- |
Thus (for this reason) We sent you
(Muhammad) for guidance to a community before which,
other
nations passed away, to announce and read to them what We have
revealed to you
while they disbelieve in the Most Gracious (,
Who created them and everything else and gave them all they
have).
Say: ”He is my Lord.
There is no one worthy of worship except He.
In Him I put all my trust and unto Him I turn (for
help)”. |
|
31- |
And if there were a Quran by which mountains
could be set in motion or the earth could be torn into
pieces
or the dead were made to speak (this would be it, but the
disbelievers still would not believe in it).
But
the decision is really with God about all matters.
3
Don’t the
believers then not realize that if God had willed, He could have
guided all people (by force)?
And disasters would keep on striking those who disbelieve because of their misdeeds
or a
disaster would strike close to their homes
until the promise of
God (for their punishment) will arrive (later in the
Hereafter).
Certainly God does not reverse His promise (of
justice).
|
|
32- |
And indeed many Messengers (of God)
before you (Muhammad) were made fun of
and I gave the
disbelievers time and chance (to correct themselves),
then (when
they continued with misdeeds,) I seized them. How
was then my punishment? |
|
33- |
Is the One, Who is Above all souls (persons), providing for them
and He is watching over them (as to what and how
they are behaving, same as others)?
And they (the disbelievers)
assumed partners for God,
(O Muhammad) say: “Name them, or are
you trying to inform God about something He does not know on
earth?
Or is
it just a show of false words?”
The truth is that the deception
by the disbelievers has become fair appearing to them
and so
they are hindered from taking the correct road.
And whomever God
leaves in error, there won't be any real guide for that person
anymore. |
|
34- |
They will suffer during the life of this
world (by their own deceptions and uncertainties)
and the
suffering in the hereafter is even tougher and more severe
and
there shall not be any shield and protector for them against
God’s punishment. |
|
35- |
The description of the Paradise, promised
for the pious God-conscious persons is that streams
and rivers flow down below it; its fruits are permanently
available and also its shades,
such is the final place of the pious people, but the final place of the disbelievers is
the Fire
(burning with severe regret of their own misdeeds). |
|
36- |
Those to whom We have given the book
(including the previous Revelations)
are glad about what is
revealed down to you (Muhammad) as well.
But from among the
members of some parties (of Jews, Christians or idol worshipers)
there are those who reject part of it.
Say (O Muhammad): “I have
been commanded to worship only the One God,
and not to associate any
partners to Him; to Him Alone I invite people and to Him,
and all my hope and attention is toward Him”. |
|
37- |
And thus We have sent down the Book of
Wisdom and Commandment in Arabic (so people can understand),
and if you (Muhammad) follow their desires after the knowledge
has reached you,
there will be no protector or defender for you,
against God (’s Judgment). |
|
38- |
And indeed We sent down messengers before
you (Muhammad) and provided wives and descendents for them
and it was not for a Messenger to bring about a sign or a miracle except
by God’s permission;
as for every matter happening and for every period,
there is something written [down, by the Command of God]. |
|
39- |
God omits (anything of the future destiny) what He wills and confirms
and fixes (whatever He wants to happen)
and the Book of Destiny (True total
knowledge and control of destiny) belongs only to Him (the One
and Only God). |
|
40- |
(O Muhammad) Whether We show you part of
the punishment that We have promised them (to suffer by defeat,
etc)
or We cause you to (die and) return to Us (before their
punishment),
at any rate your duty is to communicate God’s
Message and the accounting (of people’s deeds) is on Us. |
|
41- |
Don’t they (the disbelievers especially)
notice that We have been reducing he outlying borders of the
land
(of the disbelievers, giving it the believers)?
And when
God commands, there is none to reverse His command and He is Swift
at reckoning. |
|
42- |
And indeed those (disbelievers) before
them did make plots (against God’s Messengers and believers),
but God is the
Supreme Planner, He knows whatever point every person earns (by
his or her actions)
and the disbelievers will know as to who will get
the good final destination. |
|
|
43- |
And the disbelievers claim, saying: “You
(Muhammad) are not a messenger (of God).”
Say:” God is enough as witness
between me and you and those who have true knowledge of the
Scripture
(as the future coming of Muhammad was described in
previous Scriptures).” |
1
Arsh
in Arabic means throne, authority, control
2
All beings are humble obedient to God from all atoms to all stars and
planets and even atheists and disbelievers ultimately (in the hereafter)
will bow down to His Majesty
