Gilani |
Ta - Ha - Chapter 20
|
Contains 135 Verses – Mecca |
|
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious the Most Merciful
|
|
|
2- |
We did not send the Quran down to you to
cause you to cause distress, |
|
3- |
But (it was sent to you) as a reminder for those who are in awe (of God), |
|
4- |
This is a gradual Revelation (of the Quran) from the One, Who
created the earth and the high heavens, |
|
5- |
The Most Gracious (Who gave existence to
all beings), Who harmonized the universe by his control. |
|
6- |
To Him belongs all that is in the
heavens and all that is on the earth
and all that is in between
them and under the surface, |
|
7- |
And if you talk aloud (or pray to Him in
your heart),
He of course knows the secret and whatever is
hidden (in your hearts). |
|
8- |
God is the One;
none is worthy to be worshipped except Him.
He has the most beautiful and nice names. |
|
9- |
Have you heard the story of Moses? |
|
10- |
When he saw a fire ( in the desert
valley) and said to his family:
“Wait here, I have really seen a
fire there, maybe I can bring you some of it or find some
guidance by
the fire.” |
|
11- |
And then when he reached there, he was
called: ”O Moses”. |
|
12- |
“I am truly your Lord.
Take off your
shoes, as you are now in the sacred valley of Tuwa".
2 |
|
13- |
“And I have chosen you (as a messenger), so listen to that which will be revealed (to you).” |
|
14- |
“Certainly I am God.
None is worthy of
worship except I.
So worship Me only and stand up for prayer as a
means for you to remember Me.” |
|
15- |
“The hour (Time of Judgment) will definitely come in the future,
I shall keep it (its
time) hidden (as a secret);
so that every person
may be rewarded according to his or her efforts.” |
|
16- |
“So don’t let anyone who does not believe
in it (in the Judgment Time),
but follows his own desires and lust, to prevent you from
believing in it (in its truth).
Otherwise you will be
lost and doomed.” |
|
17- |
“O Moses, what is that thing which is in your right
hand?" |
|
18- |
He (Moses) said:
“This is my stick, on
which I lean and I use it to hit branches to drop (dried) leaves
for my sheep and goats
and I have other uses with it.” |
|
19- |
God said: “O Moses, throw it (your stick)
down.” |
|
20- |
When he threw it down, it then became a
serpent, moving around. |
|
21- |
(God) said: “Now grasp it and don’t be
afraid, as we will turn it back to its former state and shape.” |
|
22- |
“Also place your hand under your (opposite)
armpit,
it will come forth shining white, without any harm or
illness, as another Miracle.” |
|
23- |
“These are to show you some of Our Great
Signs and Miracles.” |
|
24- |
“Go to the Pharaoh, he has indeed trespassed
the limits (as an arrogant tyrant).” |
|
25- |
Moses Said: “O my Lord, open up my heart
(with courage and insight),” |
26- |
“And make my task easy for me,” |
|
27- |
“Also loosen up the knot (stuttering)
from my tongue,” |
28- |
“So the people understand my speech,” |
|
29- |
“And appoint an assistant for me from my
family,” |
31- |
“Strengthen me by him,” |
32- |
“And allow him to share my task.” |
|
|
33- |
“So that we shall glorify you so much,” |
34- |
“And remember you often, a lot,” |
|
|
35- |
“As You are Ever Observing over us.” |
|
36- |
(God) said: “O Moses, You are granted your request,” |
|
37- |
37. “And indeed We had granted you a favor
another time, in the past,” |
|
38- |
“When We inspired your mother with the
inspiration (for saving your life);” |
|
39- |
“Urging her (your mother): Place the infant (Moses) in
a box and put it onto the river (Nile),
then the stream of the
river will cast him onto the shore and an enemy of Mine and his
enemy shall pick him up.”
And I spelled a special affection from Me towards you
(Moses, in the hearts of those who picked you up from the box),
so that you would be brought up under My Attention. |
|
40- |
Remember when your sister went (to the
people who had received you from the box in the river)
and told
them: “May I show you the person who can nurse him?”
So (they
accepted and) We returned you to your mother,
so that her eyes
would light up with joy and that she would not be sad.
And
later on, you killed a man, but We saved you from distress and
tried you with multiple trials.
Then you spent years among the
people of Madyan (Midian).
Then you came here (to become a prophet) by Our Decision, O
Moses”. |
|
41- |
“And I have chosen and prepared you for My service.” |
|
42- |
“You and your brother go on to the mission
with My Signs and Miracles and do not neglect remembering Me. |
|
43- |
Both of you, go to the Pharaoh, as he has
indeed trespassed all limits (of decent behavior, as an arrogant
tyrant). |
|
|
44- |
And speak to him in a mild manner, so that he
might have a chance to think or even become humble and fearful
(about the
consequences of his behavior). |
|
45- |
They (Moses and Aaron) said: "Our Lord, We really are afraid
that he might get excessively and hastily harsh on us
or behave
irresponsibly (rebelling against us).” |
|
46- |
(God) said: “Don’t be afraid, I am indeed
with the two of you, I hear and I see everything.” |
|
47- |
“So go on, both of you to him and tell
him: "Indeed, we are Messengers of your Lord,
so let the
children of Israel (descendents of Jacob) go with us and don’t
make them suffer (anymore).
We have indeed come to you with a Message of your Lord.
And peace shall be upon those who follow
His guidance. |
|
48- |
“In fact it has been revealed to us that suffering will occur
on all who claim the Message (of God)
to be a lie
and turn away (from it).” |
|
49- |
The Pharaoh said: “ Who is then your Lord, O
Moses?” |
|
50- |
He said: “Our Lord is the One Who has given
everything (that exists), its creation, form and nature,
He also gives them instinct, conscience and guidance. |
|
51- |
Pharaoh asked: “And what about the past
generations?” |
|
52- |
Moses said: “The knowledge of their
situation rests with My Lord, all in a recorded form.
My Lord
neither makes any mistakes, nor forgets anything.” |
|
53- |
"He is the One, Who made the earth as a
cradle (and a place for your growth)
and laid ways and means for you on it and He sent water down from the sky.”
And by that, We
have brought forth all kinds of plants and vegetations |
|
54- |
Eat and pasture your animal herds, In
observing this phenomenon (of means of feeding),
there are definitely signs (of the Creator’s Might and Design)
for people capable of reasoning and understanding. |
|
55- |
From its content (of earth), We have
created you
and back into it We return you
and out of it We
shall bring you forth once again. |
|
56- |
And in fact We showed all Our signs
and Messages to him (the Pharaoh),
but he denied and refused
(to consider them). |
|
|
57- |
He (the Pharaoh) said (to Moses and
Aaron):
“Have you come to drive us out of our land with your
magic and sorcery, O Moses?” |
|
58- |
“Then we will of course produce before
you a magic similar to it.
So arrange for an appointment between
us and you, which neither we, nor you shall not miss or fail to
keep it,
at a suitable place |
|
59- |
(Moses) said: “Your appointment shall be
the day of the festival and let people gather when the sun has
risen high.” |
|
60- |
Then the Pharaoh withdrew, later he gathered
his trick team (of magicians and sorcerers)
and then later on arrived (at the place of appointment). |
|
61- |
Moses told them: “Woe unto you, don’t
produce a lie (and magic) against God,
since he would punish you.
And surely whoever invented a lie (against
God), always failed”. |
|
62- |
They (the magicians) then debated
their tactic among themselves and kept their talk secret. |
|
63- |
They said: “These two guys (Moses and his
brother Aaron) are definitely two magicians,
who intend to drive you out of our land by their magic and
destroy your way of
life.” |
|
64- |
“Therefore gather your plotting-team and
then arrive and stay in a line.
And of course whoever prevails today, will
definitely be successful and prosperous |
|
65- |
(At the showdown,) they said:
“O Moses, are you going to throw your (magical) stuff first or shall we throw
first?” |
|
66- |
Moses said: “No, you throw (first)”.
And then their ropes and their sticks (by their magical
movements) appeared
to him (Moses) as if they were moving fast. |
|
67- |
So Moses felt a fear in himself. |
|
68- |
We (God) said: “Don’t be afraid, surely
you will have the upper hand,” |
|
69- |
“And throw what is in your right hand, it
will swallow up whatever they have made up.
What they produced
is in fact only a magician’s trick and the magician will not
succeed
no matter to what level of skills he reaches.” |
|
70- |
Then (when Moses’ stick became a serpent
and swallowed up the magicians stuff)
the magicians fell down on their knees and placed
their foreheads on the ground.
They said : “We have come to
believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses”. |
|
71- |
The Pharaoh said:” You believe in him
(Moses) before I give you permission?
He must be your chief who
taught you magic.
So I will certainly have your hands and your
feet cut off on opposite sides
and I will surely have you
crucified on the trunks of the date-palm trees
and you shall
know which one of us (Pharaoh or the Lord of Moses) is more
severe in punishment and more lasting”. |
|
72- |
They said: “We don’t value you (Pharaoh)
compared to the amount and degree of signs and miracle
that have been shown to us and (we do not compare you with) the
One who designed and created us.
So order whatever you want to
order, you are not a real judge.
But you can only order and command during the life in this world.” |
|
73- |
“We have surely believed in our Lord,
hoping He may forgive us for our wrongdoings and faults
and the
magic-making that you forced us to do against that
(His Will and against our will).
And God
is better and Everlasting”. |
|
|
74- |
In fact, when a person is resurrected to
his Lord, having been a sinner-criminal (in his lifetime),
his place will be Hell, in which he neither dies nor lives. |
|
75- |
But when a person comes to Him as
a believer, having done good deeds,
for such persons there are
high ranks and status. |
|
76- |
Gardens of Eden (Paradise, the everlasting gardens) below which rivers
and streams flow, they will reside in it
(Paradise) forever
and such is the reward for those who purify
themselves (from evil thoughts, bad words and evil behavior). |
|
77- |
And indeed We revealed to Moses, saying:
“Travel away with my good servants at night time
and make a dry way through the water (to a dry area),
neither fearing to be overtaken (by Pharaoh’s men) nor being afraid otherwise". |
|
78- |
Then the Pharaoh pursued them with his army
men, then water from the sea overwhelmed them,
which covered
them up completely. |
|
|
79- |
And so the Pharaoh misguided his people in
the wrong direction and he did not guide them correctly. |
|
80- |
O
Children of Israel (of Jacob), We saved and delivered you from your
enemy
and made a covenant (promise) with you on the right side
of the Mount (Sinai)
and We provided you with foods of sweetness and birds (quails). |
|
81- |
(Saying:) Eat of the good foods that we
have provided for you
and do not trespass and transgress the
limits (that God determined for you),
otherwise. My Anger would
hit you justly.
And to whomever My Anger becomes deserving, indeed will perish. |
|
82- |
And indeed I am Forgiving to whom, who
repents,
believes (in Me) and does righteous good deeds, also continues
to follow the guidance (from Me). |
|
|
83- |
(When Moses had gone alone to receive orders
and guidance from God, He asked him:)
"What made you hurry
and come away from your people, O Moses?" |
|
84- |
He answered saying: “ They are closely
following me, and I hurried up to You, O my Lord, that you
may be pleased”. |
|
85- |
(God) said: “After you left, We have indeed
tested your people and Assamiri (an influential person) has
misled them.” |
|
86- |
So Moses returned to his people angry and
sad.
He Said: “O my people, did your Lord not give you a nice
promise (if you would behave)?
Did the promise seem delayed to
you?
Or you wanted to deserve a anger from your Lord that you
broke your promise to me?"
3 |
|
87- |
They said “We did not break the promise
of our own will,
but we were forced to carry the weights of the
jewelry-ornaments of the people (Pharaoh's people),
so we just threw them (into the
fire), just as Assamiri had thrown his in (and suggested that we
do the same).” |
|
88- |
He then made for them, out (of the molten jewelry),
a calf shaped statue which made a lowing sound
(by wind
or when blown into it). They then claimed:
“This is your idol-god and the idol-god of Moses but he forgot
(the promises which they made with Moses to worship none but
God) ”. |
|
89- |
Couldn't they notice that it could not answer
them a word
and it did not have any ability to cause them any harm or any benefit? |
|
90- |
Indeed Aaron had already told them:
“O my people, you have been tested by this, and in reality your
Lord is the Most Gracious
(Who gave you existence and everything
else).
So please follow me and obey my order (not Assamiri’s)” |
|
91- |
They responded: ”We will not stop
worshipping it until Moses comes back to us.” |
|
92- |
Moses (when he came back,) said:” O Aaron,
what prevented you from correcting them,
when you saw that they had gone astray,” |
|
93- |
Why did not you following my advice?
Have you (deliberately) disobeyed my order? |
|
94- |
He (Aaron) said: “ O son of my mother, don’t seize me by my beard nor by my head (hair).
I was afraid
(upon your return) you would say:
“You caused division among the
children of Israel and you did not respect my word.” |
|
95- |
Moses said: “So what was the matter with
you, O Assamiri (why did you do this)? “ |
|
96- |
(Assamiri) said: “I had gained insight into
something which they could not see.
So I took some of the teachings and influence of the Messenger (Moses)
disregarded and threw it away,
this was which my ego suggested to me.” |
|
97- |
Moses told him: “Then get lost, and your
life will be such that you (will be estranged and) would say:
“Don’t touch me and don’t have any contact with me.”
and there
is certainly a promised appointed time (for your punishment by
God) which will not fail.
And now look at your idol-god, which you wrongly worshipped.
We will certainly put it in fire
and then we will scatter its pieces in the sea”. |
|
98- |
Your true God is Allah:
God, the One
Creator of all, no one is worthy of worship except He (the One
True God).
He has
expanded all existence by His Knowledge. |
|
99- |
So we relate to you (Muhammad) some of the news and
information of what happened in the past.
And We have indeed
given you from Us a Reminder (the Quran). |
|
100- |
Whoever turns away from it (the Quran),
shall definitely bear a grave and heavy burden
(of
responsibility and regret) on the Resurrection Day (because of
disrespect for God’s Advice). |
|
|
101- |
They will rest forever in that state
and
indeed they will be carrying an evil burden on the
Resurrection Day. |
|
102- |
The Day when on the very loud trumpet
will be blown
and We shall gather the criminal sinners, who will be blue (in
fear). |
|
103- |
They will tell each other in a low
voice: “ You didn’t stay (in the previous existence) more than
ten days.” |
|
104- |
We know best what they will be saying;
when some of the most prominent of them will say:
“You stayed
not more than one day.” |
|
105- |
And they ask you about (what will happen
to) the mountains,
Say: “My Lord will blast and scatter them as
particles of dust,” |
|
106- |
“Then He shall make them as a level
smooth plain,“ |
|
107- |
“On which you won't see any crookedness, and
rugged terrain or curves” |
|
108- |
On that Day, everyone will follow the Caller
who does not have any crookedness,
and all voices and sounds will be hushed before the Most
Gracious (God)
and you would
hear nothing but low sounds of their steps. |
|
109- |
On that Day, intercession will be of no
benefit
except for whom the Most Gracious (God) will
have permitted and He has accepted his word. |
|
110- |
He knows their situation (of the
present and what lies ahead of them) and whatever was in their
past,
whereas they have no comprehensive knowledge about Him. |
|
111- |
And (on that Day) all faces will be
humbled for the Ever Living, Ever Sustaining One
and whoever
carries the burdens of injustice and wrongdoings, will be a
loser and hopeless. |
|
112- |
And whoever does righteous good works
and is a real believer,
then he should not fear any injustice,
nor any reduction of his merits. |
|
113- |
And thus We have sent it down as a Quran, a reading in Arabic
and have explained in it of many warnings
and promises, so that they may be conscious of God (the Truth)
or that it
would give them a lesson. |
|
114- |
(Know then that) High above all is God,
the True Ultimate Ruler, the Ultimate Truth
and (O Muhammad) do not be hasty in receiving the Quran before its Revelation is
revealed unto you and say:
“O my Lord, increase my knowledge constantly”. |
|
115- |
And indeed, long ago We had made Our
Commandment – Covenant, mandatory upon Adam,
but he forgot it and
We did not find any firm will-power in him (in following Our
Commandment Covenant). |
|
116- |
And (remember) when We told the angels:
“Prostrate yourselves before (the great creation of) Adam”.
Then
they all prostrated themselves except Iblis (Satan); he refused. |
|
117- |
Then We said: “O Adam, be aware that
this (Satan) is an enemy to you and also to your wife,
so don’t
let him trick you and get you both out of the Garden,
as a
result of which you would have hard times and distress”. |
|
|
118- |
Certainly for you it (the condition)
will be so that, you will not be hungry or
naked there. |
|
119- |
Also that there, you will not suffer from thirst,
nor from the heat of the sun. |
|
120- |
Then Satan tempted him, saying:
"O Adam, may
I lead you to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom which never
perishes?" |
|
121- |
So the two of them (Adam and Eve) ate of
it (of the fruit of it)
and thereupon they became conscious of their
nakedness,
and they began to cover themselves with
pieced-together leaves of the Garden
and Adam disobeyed his
Lord-Sustainer and so he went into the wrong direction. |
|
|
122- |
Thereafter yet his Lord-sustainer chose him
(for His Grace) and turned His Forgiveness unto him and guided
him. |
|
123- |
God said: “You both and all of you get down from that place (the Garden,
from this state of innocence and),
from among you (all your generations, as a result of that), some of you will be
enemies to others.
Yet whenever a guidance (Revelation)
reaches you from Me,
whoever then follows My Guidance, will not
go wrong, nor shall be unhappy or distressed”. |
|
124- |
But whoever turns away from My Advice and
from remembering Me, as a result,
such person will have a
lifetime of narrowed scope (such as concentrating on money, sex etc)
and (as he
was blind to the Truth in his lifetime,) We will raise him up on
the Day of Resurrection, blind (as well). |
|
125- |
Such person would then say: “O my Lord, why
did you raise me up blind, whereas I was able to see?” |
|
126- |
(God) will say: “That is the way it is, Our Messages came to
you (via the Messengers – Prophets)
but you basically neglected
them.
And for that reason, this Day you shall be disregarded”. |
|
|
127- |
And so We recompense (pay back) a person who
wastes (his lifetime, engages in excessive sins)
and does not believe in the Messages
(Verses) of his Lord
and of course the suffering (for the
disbelievers) in the Hereafter is far more severe and more lasting.
|
|
128- |
Isn’t there for them a point of guidance that
how many generations before them We made to perish,
in whose
devilling
they walk now? 4
Certainly in this observation, there are lessons
for people with wisdom. |
|
129- |
And were it not for a Word of Decree,
previously mentioned by your Lord
(to give the unbelievers
chance to think and decide for the truth,)
for a predetermined
term, their punishment would have been necessarily immediate. |
|
130- |
Therefore have patience (O Muhammad) on what
they say,
and gratefully glorify your Lord before the rising of
the sun and before its setting
and during some times of the
night, do glorify Him as well around the daytimes,
5
so that you will have satisfaction and happiness (by remembering
and praising God). |
|
131- |
And do not extend the attention of your eyes
on the material things that We gave some of them,
as décor of
life of this world, to test them by that.
But the provision of
your Lord
(rewards in the Hereafter as well as the spiritual
provision of your Land in this world)
is better and more
lasting. |
|
|
132- |
And do advise and order your family regarding prayer
and keep up at it (at regular prayers).
We are not asking you
for any favor (and provision),
We are giving you favor and your needed (spiritual and material)
provision.
And the good end result, belongs to (those who
observe) piety and righteousness. |
|
133- |
And they (unbelievers) say: “Why has he
(Muhammad) not come up with a sign or miracle of his Lord?”
Has
there not come to them an explanation of that which is in the
previous Scriptures?
(Torah and Gospel, regarding the coming of
Muhammad). 6 |
|
134- |
And if We had made them perish before him
(Muhammad), they would have said:
“O our Lord, why haven’t You
sent a Messenger to us so that we would have followed Your
instructions,
before we become humiliated and disgraced?” |
|
135- |
Say: “Everyone is waiting and expecting (what will happen
to them, believer or non-believer), so you wait also.
Then you shall know who are the ones on the correct path and
those who has followed the Guidance”. |
1
Ta-Ha is translated by some as: “O Man”, also as: “Purification (Taharat)
of mankind”. See verse 76 of this chapter 20 also.
