The Stories - Chapter
28
|
Contains 88 Verses – Mecca |
|
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious the
Most Merciful |
|
|
2- |
These are the Verses of the Book (Quran),
clarifying right and wrong. |
|
3- |
We recite to you some of the news of Moses
and the Pharaoh in truth, for the people who believe
in. |
|
4- |
In fact, the Pharaoh sought to be very
high in the land and divided its people into sects,
weakening a
group of them (the Children of Israel),
by killing their sons
and leaving their females alive (to be their servants).
He was a
real mischievous tyrant. |
|
5- |
And We decided to do favor on those who
were oppressed and weakened in the land
and to make them leaders
and cause them to be the inheritors. |
|
6- |
And to provide them well in the land and
to show the Pharaoh, Haman (his chief of army)
and their armies to
experience, because of them, that which they feared most (to
be uprooted and drowned). |
|
7- |
And (after the birth of Moses) We inspired
to the mother of Moses to nurse him,
but when you fear for his
life (that they might kill him like other sons of the Children
of Israel),
then (put him in a container and) drop him onto
the river and do not fear, nor be sad;
We shall definitely
return him to you and We intend to make him one of the
Messengers. |
|
8- |
Later the court-people of the Pharaoh
picked him up (from the river),
so that ultimately he became an
enemy and a cause of grief to them.
The Pharaoh, Haman and their
armies were really wrong-doing people. |
|
9- |
(After picking him up from the river,) the
wife of the Pharaoh said: “He is the comfort of the eye for me
and for you.
Don’t kill him, he may be of benefit to us or we
may even adopt him as a son,”
all the while not knowing the
consequences. |
|
10- |
And the heart of the mother of Moses became
calm and peaceful,
She was
almost to disclose his identity as her son,
had We not
reinforced her heart to feel secure and to believe in (Our
Protection). |
|
11- |
And she told his sister (her daughter):
“Follow his condition”.
And she observed him from side-places
that they could not know her location. |
|
12- |
And We had already forbidden the
possibility of other nursing mothers to nurse him,
so that she
(his sister) finally said:
“May I direct you to a family member who
would take care of him and look nicely after him?” |
|
13- |
So We returned him back to his mother,
so
that her eye may find comfort and she would not be sad and she
would know that the Promise of God is true,
but most of them
(people) do not know that. |
|
14- |
And when he reached his maximum strength
and became handsome,
We granted him wisdom
and special knowledge and thus We reward people who do good. |
|
15- |
And one time he entered the city with its
people unaware of him.
He then noted two men fighting, one from his
party and the other from his foes.
The man from his clan, asked
his help against the one from his foes;
Moses then hit him hard with fist and so caused his death.
He (regretted what had
happened and) said: “This is one of Satan’s doing; he is really
an evidently misleading enemy”. |
|
16- |
He said: “O my Lord, I have wronged
myself, so please forgive me”.
Then He forgave him. In fact He
is the Very Forgiving, Most Merciful. |
|
17- |
He said:
“My Lord, because of the
blessing which You granted me, I will never be a supporter for
wrongdoing criminals”. |
|
18- |
So he became afraid being in the city,
watching
(as to what would happen to him, as result of his
punching a man dead earlier),
when the man who had
asked for his help the day before, was crying for his help again.
Moses told him: “ You are really a obvious troublemaker”. |
|
19- |
Then when he decided to get hold of the
man who was an enemy to both of them, he (the man) said:
“O Moses, do you
want to kill me just as you killed a person yesterday?
You want
nothing other than being a tyrant oppressor in the land and you
do not want to be of those who do right”. |
|
20- |
Also a man came running from the farthest
end of the city, he said:
“O Moses, the authorities are
consulting together about you, to kill you, so escape now;
I am
a well-wishing advisor to you”. |
|
21- |
So he escaped from there, fearful,
watching around.
He said: “O my Lord, save me from wrong-doing
(other than God worshiping) people". |
|
22- |
And when he was going in the direction of Midian,
he said hoping:
"Maybe my Lord will guide me to the
right way”. |
|
23- |
And when he arrived at the water place of
the town of Midian,
he found there a group of people watering
their flocks
and besides them he noted two women holding back
their flock.
He asked them: “What is your problem?”
They both
said: “We would not water our flocks until the shepherds take
their flocks away.
And our father is an old man (too weak to
water the flock)”. |
|
24- |
So he watered their flocks for them, then
he turned back to the shade and said:
“O my Lord, I am really in
need of whatever good you would send down to me”. |
|
25- |
Then one of the two women
came towards him, being shy. She said:
“My father is inviting you to
reward you the wage for the watering that you did for us”.
Then
when he came to him and told him his stories, he said:
“Don’t be
afraid, you have been secured away from the tyrant folks”. |
|
26- |
One of the two women said:
“Father, hire
him. Really the best man whom you can hire, should be a strong
and trustworthy one”. |
|
27- |
He said: “I would like to wed one of my
daughters to you,
with the understanding that you would remain
to serve me, with wage,
for eight years;
but then if you
complete ten years, it will be very kind of you.
And I have no
intention to cause any hardship on you.
God willing, you will
find me a correct, righteous person (in my dealings). |
|
28- |
Moses said: “This is a commitment between
me and you; whichever term (eight or ten years) that I complete.
It will not be considered as an imposition on me, and God is
witness over what we say”. |
|
29- |
(Much later,) When Moses had fulfilled his
term of employment and was moving on with his family,
he noticed
a fire on the slope of the Mount Sinai. He told his family:
“Wait here, I have seen a fire,
may be I could bring you some
news of it or a burning brand, so that you could warm
yourselves”. |
|
30- |
But when he reached it, he was called
from the right side of the valley,
in the blessed place, from
the direction of the tree:
“O Moses, indeed I am God, the Lord
of all the worlds with all that exists in them”. |
|
31- |
“And now throw your stick”.
But when he
saw it (his stick) moving rapidly like a snake, he drew back anxiously and
did not look back.
He was told:
“O Moses, come close and do not
be afraid. You are certainly of those who are secure”. |
|
32- |
“Now put your hand in the opening of your
clothe in front of your chest,
it will come out shining white
without any flaw or anything wrong with it
and keep your arm close to your side,
free from fear and relaxed.
Those are two proofs and miracles
from your Lord to the Pharaoh and his chiefs;
they are really a
rebellious, corrupt people”. |
|
33- |
He said: “O my Lord, I have
(unintentionally) killed a man of them, therefore I am afraid
that they would kill me”. |
|
34- |
“And my brother Aaron, he is more able in
speech than me;
so please send him with me as a helper to
confirm my truthfulness.
I am in fact afraid that they will
claim me as a liar”. |
|
35- |
God said: “We will strengthen your arm
(your power) by your brother
and will grant both of you with a
special power, so that they could not harm you.
By Our
Revelations and signs of miracles, you two and those who follow
you, will be the victors, who prevail”. |
|
36- |
Later when Moses came to them with Our
Clear Proofs, they said:
“This
is nothing but an invented magic and we never heard of
this from among our forefathers”. |
|
37- |
Moses said: “My Lord knows best the person who
brings guidance from Him
and (He knows best) who will have the happy state in
the Hereafter.
Certainly the evildoing people will not succeed
in reaching the state of happiness”. |
|
38- |
The Pharaoh said: “O people of the court, I don’t know
of any god for you other than me.
So you Haman, make me a big
fire to bake (bricks) of clay, then set up a tall tower for me,
so that I may learn about the God of Moses, but I really suspect
that he is a liar”. |
|
39- |
And he and his supporters were arrogant
in the land, without any right
and they thought that they would
never be returned back to Us (Our Control). |
|
40- |
So We seized the Pharaoh and his soldiers
and threw them all into the sea.
So see how was the end of those
evildoers. |
|
41- |
And We had let them to be leaders
inviting (their supporters practically) to the fire (of Hell)
and on the Day of Resurrection, they won’t get any help. |
|
42- |
And We made a curse to follow them during
this earthly life and on the Day of Resurrection,
they will be among those despised and ugly. |
42-
|
43- |
And indeed We gave Moses the Book (Torah)
after We had already destroyed many previous generations (of
evildoers),
the Scripture as a means of insight for people and
as a guidance and grace (from Us),
so that they would remember Us often. |
|
44- |
And you (Muhammad) were not on the
western slope (of Mount Sinai)
when We ordained Moses the
Commandment and you were not among the witnesses (of that whole
event). |
|
45- |
But We kept creating generations and long
ages passed on them.
You were not among the inhabitants of Midian, to recite Our Verses to them, but We kept on sending
Messengers. |
|
46- |
And you (Muhammad) were not on the side
of the Mount Sinai, when We did call (Moses),
but now you are a
blessing and mercy from your Lord to awaken and warn a people,
to whom no warner had come before you, so that they learn to
remember God often. |
|
47- |
And if a calamity would have hit them
because of their previous evil deeds, they would have said:
“O
our Lord, why did you not sent a Messenger, so that we could
have followed Your
advices
and would have been believers. |
|
48- |
But now that the truth (the Quran) has
reached them from Us, they say:
“Why is he (Muhammad) not given
some miracles like it was given to Moses?
Did people not deny
and disbelieve what was given to Moses before?
They used to say: “Those two
are two magic tricks that help
each other”
and they even said: “We definitely reject all that”. |
|
49- |
Tell them: “Then bring a Book from God,
which would be a better guide than these two (the Torah and the
Quran),
that I would follow it, if you are being sincere and
truthful”. |
|
50- |
But then as they would not go along with
this request, then you know that they only follow their baseless
desires.
And who is more misguided and astray than the person,
who follows his desire, without any guidance from God?
Of course
God does not guide unjust wrongdoer. |
|
|
51- |
And indeed We did take the Word (the
Quran) to them,
with the purpose that they may reflect upon and
remember Me. |
|
|
52- |
Those to whom We gave the Book before
(the Jews and the Christians), they believe in it. |
|
53- |
And when it (the Quran) is read to them,
they said:
“We believe in it, it is in fact the same truth from
our Lord.
In reality we have also been submitting ourselves to
God as Muslims”. |
|
54- |
These will be given their rewards twice,
because they persisted patiently in their belief
and that they
counter and repel evil with goodness
and they spend in charity
from what We have provided them. |
|
55- |
And when they hear nonsense and evil
talk and evil behavior, they withdrew from it and said:
“We are responsible for our deeds and you are responsible
for your own actions.
Peace to you, we are not interested, nor looking for
the way of the people who are ignorant”. |
|
56- |
The fact is that you (Muhammad) can not
guide anyone whom you like,
but God guides whom He wills
(and
wants to be guided).
And He knows best who is and will be guided. |
|
57- |
And they say: “If we follow the guidance with
you, we will be taken away from our land”.
Have We not secured a safe sanctuary (Mecca) for them
to which all
kinds of fruits and produce are brought, as a prevision from Us?
But most of them do not know. |
|
58- |
And how many townfolks have We
destroyed which were ungrateful for their abundant livelihood.
Now there are their empty dwellings which have not been
inhabited except for a short little while since
and We have held
their custody thereafter. |
|
59- |
And your Lord never destroyed a town
unless He raised up in its center,
a Messenger to read Our
Revelation to them (to correct themselves)
and We never destroyed a town except when its inhabitance were unjust and cruel in their
behavior. |
|
60- |
And (remember that) whatever you have
been given of material things, is for the passing enjoyment of life
of this world and its luxury, and whatever rewards that are by
God, are better and ever more lasting.
Will
you then not use your reasoning (to compare)? |
|
61- |
Is the person whom We have promised a
nice promise (of Paradise), which he will then obtain,
same as a
person whom We have given to enjoy the luxuries of the life of
this world,
(but that person did not do good deeds in this world)
he later will be called up to account on the Day
of Resurrection? |
|
62- |
(And remember) the Day when He will call
them and say: “Where are those which you had assumed to be My
partners?” |
|
63- |
Those on whom the Word of Promise (for
punishment) will come true, will say:
“O' our Lord, these are the
ones whom we misled.
We misled them just as we were astray and
wrong ourselves, we want to clear ourselves from them towards
You.
They were not worshipping us". |
|
64- |
And they will called upon, saying: “Now call up your so-called partners (of God)”.
They will call them, but they
won’t answer them, instead they will see the torment (of severe
regret).
(They will wish) if they only had accepted the
guidance. |
|
65- |
And remember the Day, when by calling them, God
will say:
“What response did you give to those who
were sent to you for guidance?” |
|
66- |
At that time then the news will be so
unclear and confusing to them that they will not even bother to
ask each other. |
|
67- |
But on the other hand, those who repented (from
disbelief and sins) and believed (in the Oneness of God)
and did
righteous good deeds, they have good chance to be among the
successful happy persons. |
|
68- |
And your Lord creates and chooses (to
create) whatsoever He wills;
they (the false gods) do not have
any such power of choice.
Glory to God Who is beyond all imaginations and High above
all is God,
above whatever they assume to associate (with Him in
the Creation). |
|
69- |
And your Lord know well what their hearts
conceal as well as all that they reveal into the open. |
|
70- |
And He is the True God, there is no one
worthy of worship except He.
All praises and thanks are due to
Him in this initial life and in the other life to come.
And the
Command and Decision is His and all of you will be returned into
His Custody
(for Judgment for your future life in the
Hereafter). |
|
71- |
(O Muhammad) say: “Have you ever
considered if God had made the night continuous for you
till the
Day of Resurrection, which deity could, other than God bring you
light?
Won’t you then listen (to the truth)?” |
|
72- |
Say: “Have you considered if God had made
the day continuous till the Day of Resurrection,
which deity,
other than God, could bring you a night to rest in?
will you
then not see the truth (of His Might and Wisdom)?” |
|
73- |
It is out of His Mercy that He arranged
the night and the day for you to rest
and also to be able to
seek of His Blessing (that you need),
and also to have chance to
be grateful (for His Favors). |
|
74- |
And (remember) the Day, when He calls
them (the polytheists) and He shall say:
“Where are now those
imaginary partners of Mine, which you imagined (had a share in
My Divinity)?” |
|
75- |
And from each nation and community, We
shall call out a witness and We shall then say:
“Bring up proof
of your claims”.
They will then get to know that the truth
belongs to God
and all the false gods that they had made up,
disappear from their mind. |
|
76- |
Qaroon (Korah) was in fact of the people of
Moses, but he behaved arrogantly towards them.
And We had
given him so much of treasures, that the keys of his
treasure-chests
were a burden to the body of strong men.
Remember
that his folks told him:
“Do not celebrate ungratefully, as God
really does not like those who are ungratefully joyous (about
their wealth)”. |
|
77- |
"And also use some of the wealth that God
has given you for your Hereafter Home,
without forgetting your share
of lawful enjoyment in this world
and do good (to yourself and others) as God
has done good to you
and do not seek mischief in the land,
as
God does not like mischief-makers and corrupt people". |
|
78- |
He responded by saying; “This wealth has
been given to me, only because of knowledge that I have”.
Didn’t
he know that God had destroyed so many (ungrateful) generations
before him,
people who were stronger than him in power and
greater in riches that they had collected?
And that those
heavily involved in sins are not being questioned about their
sins
(in this world. They will be punished, without being questioned in this
world,
but they will be questioned and punished in the
Hereafter). |
|
79- |
So he went out to his people in his pomp
and ornaments.
Those who desired the life of this world said:
“Ah, we wish that we had like what Korah was given, he indeed has a
great fortune”. |
|
80- |
But those who had been given true
knowledge, said: “Woe to you, the reward of God is much better
(in the Hereafter)
for those who believe and do righteous good
deeds, but no one except those patient in adversity
and
persistent in their belief and good behavior, can reach and
achieve that state of mind”. |
|
81- |
We then caused the ground to shake and
swallow him and his dwelling-palace,
so there was no person or
group to help him against God’s Command and he could not help
himself,
nor he could be helped (no one but God could help him), he
didn't even have a chance to ask for help |
|
82- |
And those who the day before wished to be in his
position, said:
“What a pity, we did not know that it is God Who
grants plentiful livelihood to whomever He wants of His servants
or gives it in limited amount. Had it not been that God was
gracious on us,
He could have caused the ground to sink and
swallow us also.
It appears that ultimately the
disbelievers and the ungrateful persons will never get to the
truly happy state". |
|
83- |
As for that happy state in the Hereafter,
We assign it only for those who do not intend to be arrogant in the land,
neither want to spread trouble, mischief
and corruption,
since the good future and end result belongs to
the righteous, pious persons. |
|
84- |
Whoever comes (before God) with a good
deed, will have better than that
and whoever comes with an evil
deed, (should know that) those who did evil actions,
they will
not be punished except for that which they committed. |
|
85- |
Certainly He Who has ordered you to act
upon the Quran,
will surely bring you back to life from death to
the promised place of return
(He will return you to Mecca as well as to the promised place in the Hereafter).
Say: “My Lord knows best as to who brought the guidance and who came to accept the guidance (the Quran)
and He knows best who
is in obvious error". |
|
86- |
And you (Muhammad) were not expecting
that Book would be inspired unto you, but it is a Mercy from
your Lord.
Therefore never be a supporter of the disbelievers. |
|
87- |
And don’t let them turn you away or hold
you back from preaching
the Messages of God
after they have been
sent down to you.
And do call and invite people to your Lord
and
never be of those who associate (divinity to others than God). |
|
88- |
And never call upon any other deity along
with God.
None is worthy of worship except He.
Everything is perishable except His Being.
The ultimate Judgment and Command is His and you all shall
be brought back to Him. |
1
Ta is the first letter of Tahara: Purity – Sin is the first
letter of Salam: Peace and Mim is the first letter of Muhammad.
Purity and peace were destined to Muhammad, by the Revelations
of God.
