The Spider - Chapter
29
|
Contains 69 Verses – Mecca |
|
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious the
Most Merciful |
|
1- |
Alif – Lam – Mim (From Allah to Muhammad) |
|
2- |
Do people think that just because they
said: “We have believed”, they will be left alone and won’t be
tested? |
|
3- |
We have of course tested people before them.
Then
God will certainly make known those who proved themselves true
and will definitely also mark out the liars. |
|
4- |
Those who do evil deeds, do they count that
they can get the upper hand from Us?
How wrong they judge. |
|
5- |
Whoever expects and hopes the Meeting with
God,
should know that the appointment of God is surely to come in the
future
and the fact that He is Ever All Hearing, All knowing. |
|
6- |
And whoever strives (in God’s Course), he
actually strives for his own good;
since indeed God is beyond any need
of anything in all the worlds. |
|
7- |
As for those who believe and do righteous
good deeds,
We shall definitely blot out their previous bad
deeds
and shall most certainly reward them according to the best
that they ever did. |
|
8- |
And (among the best deed is this:) We have
advised mankind to have kindness and goodness towards his
or her parents,
but if they insist to have you associate other gods in
worship with Me, something of which you have no knowledge of,
then
do not obey them, as your ultimate return is unto Me
and I shall
make you understand well what you were doing (during your
lifetime on the earth). |
|
9- |
And those who believe and do righteous
good deeds,
We shall definitely admit them among the righteous
people (in Paradise). |
|
10- |
From among the people are some who say:
“We believe in God”.
But then if they get harmed in the cause of
God, they consider the persecution by men like a punishment from
God
and when a victory comes from your Lord for you, they will
definitely say:
“We have of course been all along with you”.
Is
God not fully Aware of what is in the heart of all people of the
world? |
|
11- |
And certainly God makes known (by
testing) those who believe and those who are hypocrites
(those who say
something, but do something else,
because they do not believe in
what they say and they try to deceive people). |
|
12- |
Also those who disbelieve tell the
believers:
“Follow our way and we shall bear the responsibility
of your sins”.
But they can’t ever take the responsibility of
their sins at all.
Certainly those who say such things, are liars. |
|
13- |
Furthermore they shall have to bear
burdens and additional burdens besides their burdens (for
deceiving others)
and they will be questioned on the Day of
Resurrection about the lies that they used to fabricate. |
|
14- |
And indeed We sent Noah to his people and
he spent a thousand less fifty years (950 years)
among them
and
(because they persisted in disbelief and rebellion,)
the Storm
flood overtook them while they continued with their
wrong-doings. |
|
15- |
And We saved him (Noah) and his
companions on the ship
and We made it a lesson for all the
people of the world. |
|
16- |
And remember the case of Abraham, when
he told his people:
“Worship only God and be aware and conscious of
Him; that is better for you, if you only would understand to
know”. |
|
17- |
"You are in fact worshipping idols, besides God and you create falsehood (the idols and their supposed
power).
But those that you worship, other than God, have no power
over your sustenance or livelihood,
so ask God for your
provision and sustenance and worship Him alone
and be grateful
to Him. You will be brought back to Him”. |
|
18- |
And if you (disbelievers) deny, nations
before you also denied (their Messengers)
and the Messenger is
only to proclaim and convey the Message (of God) clearly. |
|
19- |
Don’t they observe how God originates the
Creation in the first instance, then repeats it and brings it
back?
This is of
course quite easy for God. |
|
20- |
Say: “Travel around on the earth and
observe how God originated the creation in the first place,
then
also God will bring about the creation again in the Hereafter.
Certainly God is Capable of all things”. |
|
21- |
He punishes whom He decides and He will have
Mercy on whom He wills
and ultimately you all will be turned
into His Custody. |
|
22- |
And there is no way that you could escape
(from Him), neither in the earth, nor in the heaven.
And other
than God, you won’t have any guardian or helper. |
|
23- |
And those who do not believe or those who reject
the Message of God and the Meeting with Him,
they will give up
all hope of My Mercy and they will be the ones who will have a
painful suffering. |
|
24- |
Afterwards the only answer of his people
(Abraham’s people) was that they said: “Kill him or burn him”.
Then God saved and rescued him from the fire.
Indeed in this,
there are lessons for people who believe. |
|
25- |
And Abraham told them: “You have indeed taken
idols to worship besides God,
something as a means of friendship and
conformity between you (people) in the life of this word,
but then on the
Day of Resurrection, some of you will reject each other and curse each
other
and your place shall be the Hellfire and you will have no
helpers”. |
|
26- |
So Lot (his brother’s son) believed in
him and said: “I am going to emigrate and get away (from this
people)
to the way of my Lord. He is indeed All Mighty,
All Wise". |
|
27- |
We also granted him (Abraham) Isaac and
Jacob and We assigned Prophethood and the Book,
the Scripture in
his offspring and We granted him his reward in this world and in
the Hereafter,
he will of course be among the righteous good
people. |
|
28- |
And consider the story of Lot, when he
told his people:
“You have come up with a filthy sexual act
which no one in the world had preceded you in doing it”. |
|
29- |
“Are you reaching men to have sex with, thus cutting the
natural way (of production)
and even arrange evil acts (orgy) in
your gatherings?”
His people’s answer was nothing except that
they said: “Bring about God’s Punishment if you are being
truthful”. |
|
30- |
He said: “O my Lord, please help me
against this evil-acting people”. |
|
31- |
Later when Our Messengers (angels)
arrived at Abraham’s place with good news
(that he will have
another son; Isaac), they also said:
“We are going to destroy
the inhabitants of this town (of Sodom – Gomorrah where Lot
was),
for its people have been really very unjust evil-doers. |
|
32- |
Abraham said: “But Lot is in that town”.
They said: “We know better who is in there; we will of course
save him and his family, except his wife,
who is to remain
behind (to be destroyed with others)”.
1 |
|
33- |
And when Our Messengers (the angels) came
to Lot, he became very sad because of them
and felt anxious that
he could not protect them (against the homosexuals).
But they
said: “Don’t worry and don’t be sad.
We are indeed going to save
you and your family, except your wife, who is supposed to remain
behind with the rest”. |
|
34- |
“In fact, we are about to bring down a
horrible suffering from the sky upon this town, because of the
evil they kept doing”. |
|
35- |
And indeed We have left clear evidence
(ruins of Sodom and Gomorrah in present day Israel, near the
Dead Sea)
for people who use their reason. |
|
36- |
And to the people of Midian, We sent
their brother Shuaib, who then told them:
“Worship God Alone and
expect and hope for the rewards of the Latter Day (of
Resurrection and Everlasting Life)
and do not act evil, spreading crimes in the
land”. |
|
37- |
But they denied him. Thereupon an
earthquake seized them and they lay dead in their homes. |
|
38- |
And as regards to the people of Aad and
Thamood, it should have been clear to you
(what happened to them
by looking at the ruins) of their dwellings.
Satan had made
their acts seem fair to them and barred them from the correct
way of life,
even though they were intelligent enough to
perceive the truth. |
|
39- |
And (We destroyed) Korah, the
Pharaoh and (his general) Haman;
Moses had come to them with
clear evidences of truth, yet they kept behaving arrogantly in
the land,
but they could not get away (from Our Punishment). |
|
40- |
So We seized each one (of them) for his
sin; to some We sent a deadly windstorm with shower of stones
(on the people of Lot) and some of them were overtaken by a
sudden massive sound blast (the people of Thamood)
and some We
caused the earth-ground to sink and swallow them (as in the case
of Korah, the arrogant rich man)
and some of them whom We
drowned (as the People of Noah and later the Pharaoh, Haman and
his army).
And in each instance, it was not God that wronged
them,
but they were the ones who kept doing wrong and injustice
to themselves. |
|
41- |
The similarity of those who assume others
than God as their guardians is like that of the spider who
builds a nest
and evidently the weakest and lightest house is the spider’s nest,
if only they (those people) would
get the point. |
|
42- |
Of course God knows well whatever they
call and pray to, instead of Him,
whereas He is the Only
All Mighty, All Wise. |
|
43- |
And so We put forward such examples for
people but only those who are aware (of God) and are
knowledgeable,
understand their
meaning. |
|
44- |
God created the heavens and the earth to
present the Truth.
Certainly in observing this, there is a
lesson and inspiration for people who believe in Him. |
|
45- |
(O Muhammad) Do read what has been
revealed to you of the Book (the Quran)
and keep up with regular
(five times) prayers.
In fact the regular prayer keeps you away
from evil, shameful and indecent acts
and certainly the remembering of God
is the greatest and most important deed.
And God knows all
that you do. |
|
46- |
And do not discuss or argue with
followers of the earlier Scripture (such as Jews, Christians etc),
but
by the best of manners, except those of them who have done evil
(such as oppression, murder, etc).
And say (to them): We have believed
in that (Quran) which has been sent down to us
and that
Scriptures which were sent down to you (the original Torah and
Evangel, etc)
and our God and your God (who created all) is the
same One God and to Him we submit our wills as Muslims. |
|
47- |
And this way, We sent down the Book
(Quran) to you (Muhammad).
So then those who were given the Book
(previous Scriptures) before you, would believe in it
and from
among these (pagans also) are those who would believe in it,
but
none except the disbelievers who suppress the truth, reject and
dispute Our Messages. |
|
48- |
(And for the record, you Muhammad) Before
that, you could never
read any book,
nor could you write or transcribe one with
your (right) hand, in which case those who insist to disprove the
truth,
indeed would have argued to cause doubt about it. |
|
49- |
But they are evident and clear Messages
to the heart of all those who are gifted with (inner natural)
knowledge
and none would argue to reject Our Revelations except
those who do injustice to themselves. |

50- |
And they say: “Why have no miraculous
signs ever been released to him from his Lord?”
Say: “All
miracles are in the power of God alone, and as for me, I am only
a plain warner”. |
|
51- |
Is the fact that We sent down the
Book (Quran) to you, not enough for them,
a book which is read to
them (to study and think about it)?
Certainly in this Book,
there is a Mercy and Reminder for people who believe in. |
|
|
52- |
(O Muhammad) Say: “God is Sufficient as a
witness between me and you.
He knows all that is in the heavens and
the earth.
And those who believe in falsehood (other deities)
and thus deny the Only God, they are the losers”. |
|
|
They even ask you to quickly bring about the
suffering (that you told them they will have in the
Hereafter),
and indeed had it not been for the set time (by God), the
suffering would certainly have arrived at them.
But it
will definitely come upon them suddenly, while they are not
aware of and they don’t except it. |
|
54- |
They challenge you to quickly bring about the
punishment
but in fact Hell will encompass all those who
suppress and deny the truth. |
|
55- |
The day when the suffering shall cover them
from above them and from below their feet
and He shall say:
“Taste now the result of what you used to do”. |
|
56- |
O my good servants who have believed, My
earth is wide and spacious.
Therefore worship only Me
(and if
the environment is hostile, move to a better place which is
better for you the
believers). |
|
57- |
Every human being shall taste and
experience death.
Then you all shall be brought back to Us (to
your Creator). |
|
58- |
And those who have believed and did
righteous good deeds,
We shall certainly assign for them,
mansions of Paradise, down where streams and rivers flow, to
stay there forever;
how excellent is the reward of those who act
(according to God’s Commandments), |
|
59- |
Those who persisted patiently and have
had always trust in their Lord. |
|
60- |
(Think about) how many creatures are there,
which do not store or carry their foods and sustenance with them;
God provides for them and for you and He is All Hearing,
All Knowing (of your situation). |
|
61- |
And if you ask them:
“Who created the
heavens and the earth and who made the sun and the moon subjugated (to run according to His Laws)?”
They will surely say:
“God”.
Why do they then deviate (by praying to others)? |
|
62- |
Whereas it is God, Who gives plenty of
livelihood to whichever of His creatures and servants He decides
or gives him in some limited amount.
God is surely All Aware of
all things and conditions. |
|
63- |
And if you ask them:
“Who sends the water
down from the sky and gives life again to the dry earth, after
it was lifeless?”
They would certainly say: “God”.
Say: “All
praises and thanks are due to God”.
But most of them do not use
their reasoning (and again pray to others). |
|
64- |
And (they don’t realize that) the life in
this world is only an amusement and a playing (for them)
and that the real
life is really in the home Hereafter, if they only knew this
truth. |
|
65- |
And so when they embark on a ship (and
find themselves in danger,) they call upon God,
sincere to Him
in their faith, but soon as He has brought them safely to land,
then they (start again to) assume imaginary partners (to God,
forgetting their True Savior; God). |
|
66- |
So they show their lack of appreciation
for all that We granted them and go on to enjoy themselves
thoughtlessly,
but they will realize the truth in the future. |
|
67- |
Do they (the idol worshipper of Mecca)
not appreciate that We have set up a sacred place, secure (at
the Kaaba),
whereas people are being carried away (by kidnapping, disbelief,
fear and despair) all around them.
Do they then still believe in
false things and disrespect the Blessing of God (the pure Faith
of Submission to the One God)? |
|
68- |
And who is more unjust and wicked than
the person who fabricates lies about God
or claims the Truth
(the Quran) that has come to him, as a lie?
Isn't in the Hell a
proper place for those who suppress and deny the truth? |
|
69- |
But as for those who strive hard in Our Cause
(to find
the Truth about Us),
We will certainly guide them (by inspiration and
other means) to Our ways.
And in fact God is definitely always
with those who do good. |

Lot’s
wife was not a well-behaving person.
