Translation of the Holy Quran by Dr.
Gilani |
Luqman - Chapter
31
|
Contains 34 Verses – Mecca |
|
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious the
Most Merciful |
|
1- |
Alif _ Lam_Mim (from Allah to Muhammad) |
|
2- |
These are the Verses of the Book, full of
Wisdom (the Quran) |
|
3- |
As a guide and a grace for nice people. |
|
4- |
Those who perform regular prayer and spend in
charity and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter. |
|
5- |
They are on the guidance from their Lord and
those are the ones who will be happy and successful. |
|
6- |
And from among the people, is the kind of
person, who buys idle speech and story
to mislead himself and people away from the Way of God, without
any knowledge
and he even makes a mockery and joke of that (the way of God).
For such persons, there will be a humiliating suffering. |
|
7- |
And when Our Verses (of the Quran) are read
to such a person, he would turn away arrogantly,
as if he didn’t hear it at all, as if he is hard of hearing in
his ears.
Therefore announce the news of a coming painful suffering to
him/her. |
|
8- |
But those who believe and do righteous good
deeds, they will have Gardens of Bliss (in Paradise). |
|
9- |
They will last there forever.
This is the Promise of God, in truth, and He is the Almighty,
the All-Wise. |
|
10- |
He has created the heavens without supporting
pillars or columns, which you could see
and He has set firm mountains on earth, so that it would not
slide you about
and He has scattered on it all kinds of moving creatures.
And We have sent down water from the sky (as rain, snow etc),
by which We have caused to grow all kinds of nice plants (which
is food for all kind of creatures). |
|
11- |
This is the Creation of God.
Now then show me what others than Him have created (which some
people worship them,).
The fact is that the unjust idol-worshippers are in clear error
and confusion. |
|
12- |
And We indeed granted Wisdom to Lugman,
teaching him: “Do mention thanks to God”.
And when a person thanks, he or she is thanking in a way which
would benefit his or her own self
(becomes happier and content by being aware of the blessings)
and whoever is ungrateful, should know that God is All-Rich (has
no need for His servants’ thanks),
and He is Much-Praised. |
|
13- |
And consider when Lugman told his son,
advising him:
“O my son, don’t ever worship other entities besides God, as
this worshipping others is a grave injustice.” |
|
14- |
And We have advised as a duty to mankind to
be kind to their parents,
as his or her mother carried him with hardship upon hardship and
weaning from nursing him or her within two years,
We advised you to express thanks to Me and your parents (and to
remember that)
the end of the life journey is back to Me. |
|
15- |
Yet if they (the parents) force you to accept
partners with Me (in My Divinity),
something upon which you have no knowledge, then do not obey
them,
however treat them kindly in this world
and follow the way of
those who reverted (returned to the natural belief) to Me
(away from idol-worship).
Your ultimate return shall be to Me and I will then inform you
of all that you had been doing. |
|
16- |
(Lugman also said:) “Oh my son, if it be that
your deed is as little as the grain of a mustard seed (and
anything else),
be it in a rock or in the heavens or in the earth,
God will bring it forth, since God is the Observer of all
details and He is the All Aware.” |
|
17- |
“O my son, Keep up your regular prayers and
encourage and enjoin people for goodness
and forbid
and advise them away from evil and be patient on whatever
hardship hits you.
Surely this is necessary on how to handle matters and problems
and to accomplish good deeds.” |
|
18- |
“And do not turn away your face from people
in an arrogant fashion and do not walk on earth proudly.
Certainly God does not like any arrogant and bragging person.” |
|
19- |
“And be moderate in your walking and behavior
(neither hasty nor too slow) and keep your voice down
(don’t be loud), as in fact the harshest, most unpleasant voice
is the braying sound of the asses.” |
|
20- |
Haven’t you people noticed that God has
subjected all the things in the heavens and all the things in
the earth
for your use and gifted upon you His bounties, both apparent
(like health, strength, wealth etc.)
and subtle or hidden (such as belief in the One God, wisdom,
skills, knowledge etc.) ?
Yet among mankind, there is the kind of person, who argues and
disputes about God without knowledge
or guidance or any Scripture Book, which would give light or
explanation (to his/her argument). |
|
21- |
And when they are told: "Follow what God has
sent down (as guidance)"
they say: "We rather follow what our fathers used to follow",
Do they follow their fathers, even though Satan had been calling
them towards the blazing Fire of Hell? |
|
22- |
And whoever submits his self or his being to
God and he is a good behaving person,
he has certainly grasped and holds to a solid handle of
salvation
and the final end of all matters is in the Hands of God.
|
|
23- |
And whoever rejects the faith, his rejection
should not make you sad.
The return of all them will be to Us, then We will inform them
of what they had done.
Certainly God is All knowing of the inner secrets of hearts.
|
|
24- |
We let them (the unbelievers) to enjoy their
lives for a little while, then We submit them to a severe
suffering. |
|
25- |
And when you ask them : ”Who has created the
heavens and the earth?”
they will surely say: “God”,
say: “All praise and all thanks are due to God”.
yet most of them do not know (what this really means). |
|
26- |
To God belongs all that is in the heavens and
the earth.
Certainly, only God is Self sufficient, Rich (free of all needs)
and Worthy of all praises. |
|
27- |
And if all the trees on earth were pens and
the sea were as ink, with seven seas added to it,
the words (about the Majesty) of God would not be exhausted,
for
in all reality God is the Absolute Almighty, the All Wise. |
|
28- |
(For Him, because of His Immense Power,) The
Creation and the Resurrection of all of you
is like the creation and resurrection of a single person, as He
is certainly All Hearing, All Observant. |
|
29- |
Don’t you notice that God makes the night
grow longer by shortening the day
and makes the day grow longer by shortening the nights
and made the sun and the moon obedient (to His Laws which He
made for nature),
all heavenly bodies running their courses for a specific term
(set by Him) and that God is all Aware of what you do. |
|
30- |
That is because God Alone is the Absolute
Truth
and that all that they call upon other than Him,
is sheer falsehood
and that certainly only God is Most High,
Most Great. |
|
31- |
Don’t you observe that ships run on sea by
the Grace of God, to show you some of His Majestic Signs?
In this phenomenon, there are of course signs (of His majesty)
to be observed
for all who are entirely patient in all situations and deeply
grateful
(to be able to observe all these wonders, beauties and
blessings). |
|
32- |
And so it is that when a wave covers up over
them like a huge shadow (of death),
they call God, sincere in their faith in Him.
But then soon after He has brought them safe ashore, some of
them are half-hearted in their faith.
Yet no one could argue or reject Our Signs except any disloyal,
ungrateful person. |
|
33- |
O you people, be conscious of your Lord and
be in awe of the Day (of Resurrection)
when no parent can be rewarded or be punished instead of his
child in any shape or form,
nor any child would be rewarded or be punished instead of his
parents in any shape or form at all.
Certainly the Promise of God is true, therefore don’t let the
life of this world deceive you,
nor let (your own) deceptive thoughts (Satan) deceive you about
the promise of God. |
|
34- |
In reality, only God has the knowledge of the
time and the Hour (of the end of this world and the Resurrection)
and He is the One who sends down the rain (of salvation) and knows
all which are in the wombs
No one knows what he or she will earn tomorrow,
and not even one person knows in which land he or she will die.
Truly, only God is the All Knowing, the All Aware. |
|
|
