Translation of the Holy Quran by Dr.
Gilani |
The (combined)
Parties - Chapter
33
|
Contains 73 Verses – Medina |
|
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious the Most Merciful |
|
|
|
1- |
O prophet (Muhammad), be ever conscious of
God and do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites.
Truly,
God is Ever All Knowing, All Wise |
|
2- |
But follow that which has been revealed to
you from your Lord, as God is Ever All Aware of what you are
doing |
|
3- |
And put all your trust in God, for God is
Sufficient as the Ultimate Trustee |
|
4- |
God did not place two sets of hearts
inside the body of a man,
just as He never declared unlawful to
you your wives which you declare
“as unlawful to you as your own
mothers' backs” (to get rid of them easily),
nor has He ever declared your adopted sons
“as truly your own sons”.
That is your own statement made by your mouths,
(thinking that by just
saying such things, your wives will become unlawful to you or by
just declaring once,
a child of someone else becomes your own
child),
whereas God is the One Who always says the ultimate
truth and He guides to the right way. |
|
5- |
Call them (your adopted children) by their
real names given by their fathers;
that is more correct and
fair in sight of God.
But if you do not know who their real
fathers were,
then consider them and call them as your brothers in faith and
your friends, and those entrusted to you.
And it is not considered as a sin if
you made a mistake how you called them,
but it is important how
your hearts intended (to view them and call them) on purpose.
And God is
Ever Very Forgiving, Most Merciful (to good people). |
|
6- |
The prophet is more important to the
believers than themselves and their own relatives
and his wives are considered
as (important as) their mothers.
And as to the blood-relatives, some are according to the Book of God, of higher importance
than others,
and compared to the believers and those who emigrated
(with the prophet or later from Mecca to Medina, fleeing the
offending idol worshipers).
However, you are to treat your close friends
with fairness and kindness.
This is written down in God’s Book
of Decrees (in previous Scripture and in the Quran). |
|
7- |
And mention, when We accepted a solemn
pledge from all the prophets,
from you (Muhammad) as well as
from Noah, from Abraham, from Moses and from Jesus, son of Mary.
And We did accept a strong pledge from all of them
(that they
would spread and convey the Revelations to the best of their
abilities), |
|
8- |
So that He would ask the truthful persons about (their response
and) their truthfulness.
And grievous, painful suffering He has prepared (as
Hell) for those who deny the truth. |
|
9- |
O you who believe, remember the favor of
God upon you,
when hosts of enemies came down against you,
We
then sent against them a stormy wind (with dust and sand)
and
forces (of angels) which you did not see (during the battle of
the confederate parties against the Muslims)
and God is
Ever Observing over all that you do. |
|
10- |
10. (Remember) when they came upon you from
(the hills) above you and from (the lower terrain) below you
and
when eyes became fixed and wild-looking, the hearts reached
about the throat (beating fast out of fear)
and you had very
conflicting thoughts about God (‘s Help), |
|
11- |
As there and then, the believers were
tested and were shaken very severely, |
|
12- |
At which time also the hypocrites and
those in whose hearts there is a disease (of insecurity and
doubts), said:
“God and His Messenger promised us nothing but a
deceit.” |
|
13- |
And when some of them said:
“O people of Yathrib (Medina), there is no chance for you to stand (against
the enemy), therefore go back”.
And a band of them even asked
leave of the Prophet (Muhammad), saying:
“Our houses are really exposed and open (to the enemy)".
But they were in fact not
exposed; they only wanted to flee |
|
14- |
And if the enemy had stormed them from
all sides of the town,
and then they would have been asked to
commit return to paganism (away from Islam),
they would easily
have done so without much hesitation. |
|
15- |
Although they had indeed promised God
before that they would not turn their backs
and any promise made
to God will be questioned about. |
|
16- |
(O Muhammad to those hypocrites) say:
“Fleeing away won’t help you, if you flee from death or
from being killed (in battle)
and even then you won’t enjoy
life, but for a little while”. |
16-
|
17- |
Say: “Who could ever protect you from
God, if He intends to harm you
or can keep away His Mercy from you when He
intends it for you?”
(They should know that) besides God, they
can not find anyone as a true protector or helper. |
17-
|
18- |
God certainly knows very well which ones of
you held back others (from fighting defensive battle in His
Cause)
and those who tell their brothers (close friends):
“Come
here to us,”
yet they do not (themselves) engage in battle but a
little or seldom, |
18-
|
19- |
They are being cheap and miserly towards
you.
And when danger and fear come to them, you see them looking
at you,
their eyes rolling (from fear) like the eyes of a person
who is overshadowed by death.
Then when the fear and danger
passes, they will hurt you with awful sharp words of language,
while being miserly (waning booties) and withholding from all
that is good.
Such people
have no faith, therefore God makes all their works worthless and
that is easy for God. |
|
20- |
They think the confederate parties (against
you) have not yet withdrawn
and should the confederates return,
these (hypocrites among you) would wish they were in the desert,
among the Bedouins, asking news about you (believers, from far
away)
and if they happen to be amongst you, they would seldom
fight. |
|
21- |
Indeed the Messenger of God has been an
outstanding example and role-model for you,
and for whoever
hopes forward for the Grace of God,
for the Last Day
(Resurrection) and remembers God very often. |
|
22- |
And so when the believers saw the
confederate parties (who came to fight them all the way to
Medina) they said:
“This is what God and His Messenger had
promised us and God and His Messenger had told the truth”.
And
all this only increased their faith and their readiness to
submit themselves (to God). |
|
23- |
From among the believers, there are men
who have been true to their promise they made to God
(to
participate in holy defensive battles),
some of them have
already fulfilled their obligations (were martyred)
and some of
them are expecting (possible martyrdom)
and they have not
changed (their attitude or readiness) at all. |
|
24- |
So that God will reward the truthful person
for their staying truthful and will punish the hypocrites,
if He
so decides, or accepts their repentance (their asking for
forgiveness and deciding to be good and faithful).
In fact God
is Ever Very Forgiving, Most Merciful (to good people). |
|
25- |
And God drove back the (attacking)
disbelievers in their rage and ferocity (against the Muslims),
they gained no advantage and God (’s help) was Sufficient for
the believers in the battle
(such as by blowing severe wind and sand
against the disbelievers in that battle).
And note that God is
Ever All Powerful, All Supreme. |
|
26- |
Also He brought down those members of the
Scriptures (some Jews of Medina) who backed them
(the
disbelievers in their fighting against the Muslims),
down from
their forts and cast fear into their hearts, so that you killed
some of them and you captured some others. |
|
27- |
And He caused you to inherit their lands,
their houses,
their riches and a land, on which you had never
been before.
And God is Ever Able to do all things |
|
28- |
O prophet (Muhammad) say to your wives:
“If you desire the life of this world and its luxury, then
come.
I will make a provision of share for you and set you free
(in divorce) in a nice manner.” |
|
29- |
“But if you desire God and His Messenger
and the good home of the Hereafter,
then (you should know that)
God has prepared a great reward for the good behaving ones
amongst you.” |
|
30- |
O you the wives of the prophet, if anyone
of you commits an evident illegal sexual act,
(should know that)
her punishment will be doubled and that is easy for God. |
|
31- |
And any of you who is obedient to God and
His Messenger and acts in a righteous good manner,
We shall give
her, her due reward twice over and We have prepared a noble
provision (in Paradise as well) for her. |
|
32- |
O you wives of the Prophet, your standing
is not the same as other women.
If you are mindful (of God),
then do not speak so softly as to excite a man in whose heart is
the disease of hypocrisy,
to have desire (to advance on you),
but speak in an ordinary honorable manner. |
|
33- |
And stay in your houses and do not show
off yourselves like the time of ignorance before (Islam).
And do
keep up your regular prayers and pay in charity and obey God and
His Messenger.
In fact God wants to remove any evil from you
(males and females),
O members of the family (of the prophet)
and to purify you thoroughly. |
|
34- |
And (you, wives of the prophet), remember any
of the Verses of God and wisdom which are recited in your homes.
Truly God is Ever Observant in details and Well Aware. |
|
-35 |
Certainly all the Muslims, men and women,
(those who submit their will to God’s Will)
and the true
believers, men and women,
and those men and women
obedient (to God)
and the men and women who are truthful
and the
men and women who are patient and persistent (in their duties),
the men and women who are humble and mindful of God
and the men
and women who give charity
and those men and women who observe
fasting (such as in the month of Ramadan)
and the men and women who
guard their chastity (avoid illegal sex)
and the men and women
who remember God frequently (in the heart and by their tongues),
God has prepared and provided a forgiveness and a grand reward
for them (in Paradise). |
|
36- |
There is no place for a believer, men or
women, when God and His Messenger have ordered a matter,
that
they would have any option in the decisions (to the contrary).
And whoever disobeys God and His Messenger, indeed has strayed
into an evident error. |
|
37- |
And remember when you (Muhammad) told the
person (Zaid, the freed adopted slave of yours),
on whom God had granted Favor and you (Muhammad) had also done favor on him
(by recommending and helping him to marry your cousin Zainab), saying to him (the following advice):
“Keep nicely your
wife to yourself and be mindful of God (so that you will be kind
to her).”
And you (Muhammad) hid in yourself
(the thought that Zaid may divorce her and that you would have to marry her, to
console her),
something which God was to make manifest and you
feared (the coming gossip of) the people,
whereas God is more
rightful that you should fear Him.
So when Zaid decided and
accomplished the separation of divorce from her completely,
We
gave her (Zainab) to you in marriage,
so that (in the future)
there will not be any difficulty or hardship
for the believers
in marrying later the divorced wives of their adopted sons,
when
they had decided to divorce them for good.
And God’s Command
must be done. |
|
38- |
There should not be any hardship or blame
on the prophet in that which God has made legal for him.
That
has always been God’s way upon those who passed away before (of
previous generations and prophets)
and God’s Command is a
measure to be honored and reckoned with. |
|
39- |
Those who convey the Messages of God and fear
him with awe and have no fear of anyone except God
(they know that) God is Enough for Reckoning (Who gives everyone’s deeds,
their due recognition). |
|
|
40- |
Muhammad is not the father of any of your
men, but he is the Messenger of God
and the last and the seal of the prophets
and God is Ever All Aware of all matters |
|
41- |
O you who believe, remember God very
frequently, a lot. |
|
42- |
And glorify Him (especially in prayers) in the early
morning and in the evening. |
|
43- |
He is the One Who sends His Greetings and
Blessings to you,
so do His angels (convey His Greetings and
Blessings to you)
to bring you out of darkness (of ignorance)
into the light (of knowledge and true understanding)
and He is
Ever so Merciful to the believers. |
|
44- |
Their greeting on the Day (of
Resurrection) when they meet Him will be: “Peace = Salaam”
And
He has prepared for them a generous reward. |
|
|
45- |
O prophet (Muhammad), We have in fact
sent you as a witness (also as a role-model),
as a bringer of
good news (to good people) and as a warner, |
|
|
46- |
And as a person, who invites people to
God, by His Permission and as a lamp, spreading His Light.
(through
your teachings of God’s Messages of the Quran and by being a
role-model in everyday life). |
|
47- |
And do announce the good news to the
believers that there will be a grand superiority in Blessings
from God to them (especially in the Hereafter). |
|
48- |
And do not obey the disbelievers and the
hypocrites,
disregard their bad behavior and their talking
(against you) and keep on trusting God,
since God is Sufficient as
a Trustee and Protector |
|
48- |
O you who believe, when you marry believing women and
later divorce them
before having any sexual contact with them,
then they have no obligation of a waiting period for you to
consider upon them (before they can marry someone else).
Therefore give them a good present and set them free in a nice
manner (do not stop them from remarriage). |
|
50- |
O prophet (Muhammad), We have certainly
made lawful and permissible to you,
your wives, to whom you
already paid their bridal-money or bridal-present
(which is to
be given by husbands to their wives)
and (made lawful to marry) those
women whom you took control of them by your hand,
the custody of their care
which God has given you
(as a consequence of wars when their
husbands died or were killed),
also (lawful to marry) the
daughters of your paternal uncles
and the daughters of your
paternal aunts,
the daughters of your maternal uncles and the
daughter of your maternal aunts,
who emigrated with you (from
Mecca to Medina)
and a believing woman, who would offer herself
to the prophet,
if the prophet would decide to marry her,
these
are special rules for you only, not for the rest of the
believers.
We know well of course what We have made lawful to
them regarding their wives and the women,
whose custody their
hands have taken on, so that there would be no hardship for you
(in these special rules).
And God is Ever Very Forgiving, Most
Merciful. |
|
51- |
You (Muhammad) can postpone or defer visiting anyone of them
(your wives)
or you can receive them as you will (to suit your
time and situation)
and when you seek for any of those whom you have
kept aside (for a time), it is no sin (to receive her again).
This will make it more likely that they become happy,
their eyes light up with happiness and that they are not sad
(feeling that they are overlooked)
and that they become pleased
with whatever you can do for any or all of them
(such as giving them part of
your time, efforts and presents).
And God alone knows what is in
your hearts and God is the All Knowing, Most Forgiving. |
|
52- |
It is not lawful for you to marry other
women after this, nor to replace them for other wives,
even
though their beauty would be pleasing to you,
except whom you
would have to take custody of with your hand
(as a result of any
war, when the husband has perished) and God is Ever Watchful
over all things. |
|
53- |
O you who believe, do not enter the
prophet’s dwellings unless you are given permission (by
invitation) for a meal,
(and then) not (so early as) to wait for
it to be prepared and served, without looking at it to be served;
but when you are invited, enter
(on time),
and when you have taken your meal, then disperse
without sitting and lingering for a talk.
That has been
bothering the Prophet but yet he has been shy of (asking) you
(to leave),
but God is not shy of telling you the truth.
Also,
when you ask (the ladies in his house) for anything (such as water), then you
should ask them from behind a screen;
that is better for the
purity of your hearts and their hearts.
And you are not supposed
to annoy the Messenger of God,
nor ever to marry his wives after him;
as that would certainly be a
gravely enormous matter in the Sight of God. |
|
54- |
Weather you reveal anything or keep it as
a secret, of course God has knowledge of everything. |
|
55- |
It is (however) no sin for them (the
ladies to appear) before their fathers
or their sons or their
brothers or their brother’s sons or the sons of their sisters
or
their womenfolk or the persons whom their hands have taken
custody of their care.
Anyway you women, be ever mindful of God, certainly God is Ever Witness over everything. |
|
56- |
Truly God and His angels bless the
Prophet;
so o you who have believed, bless him (Muhammad)
and
whole heartedly salute him and totally submit to his guidance
(which comes from God, do not argue with his guidance). |
|
57- |
As in fact, those who affront or offend
God and His messenger,
God rejects and curses them (deprives
them of His Blessings)
in this world and in the Hereafter life
to come and He has prepared a humiliating suffering for them. |
|
58- |
Also those who offend and annoy believing
men and women, without their having done any wrong,
they surely
burden themselves and bear the responsibility of slander and an
evident sin. |
|
59- |
O prophet, tell your wives, daughters as
well as believing women,
that they should draw over themselves
some of their outer garments (scarves when in public);
that
will be better, for them to be recognized (as respectable
ladies), so as not to be annoyed or disrespected.
And God is
Much Forgiving Most Merciful. |
|
60- |
If the hypocrites or those in whose
hearts is a disease (for evil behavior and uncertainty)
and
those who by spreading false rumors, cause disturbances in the
town (of the prophet) Medina,
if do not stop (their mischief), We shall indeed make you force them out of town,
so that they could
not stay in, more than a little while as your neighbors. |
|
61- |
As cursed off and disgraced, they shall be
seized wherever they are found and slain one and all. |
|
62- |
Such has been God’s way with those who
(sinned in like manner and) passed away before your times
and
you won’t find any change in God’s Way. |
|
63- |
People ask you about the exact time and
hour (of Resurrection), say:
“The knowledge of it, rests with God
alone and what would ever make you know?
The time of that Hour may well be
near”. |
|
64- |
Truly God has cursed, rejected (discarded) the
deniers of the truth and has readied for them a blazing fire (of
Hell). |
|
65- |
They will remain there forever, finding
no protector or helper. |
|
66- |
On the Day when their faces shall be
turned over in the fire, they shall say:
“What a pity on us, if
we had just obeyed God and the Messenger (Muhammad)". |
|
67- |
And they shall say:
“O our Lord, we
indeed obeyed our leaders and our great men, but they led us
far away from the right way”. |
|
68- |
"Our Lord, give them double dose of
suffering and banish and curse and discard them gravely away from Your
Grace.” |
|
69- |
O you who believe, do not be like those
who abused, offended and annoyed Moses,
but then God cleared him (Moses) from
all that which they said (against him or demanded of him)
and he
was an honorable man in Sight of God. |
|
70- |
O you who believe, remain conscious and
mindful of God and (always) speak just and truthful words, |
|
71- |
(That way), He will cause your deeds to be
correct also and will forgive your past sins.
And (of course)
whoever obeys God and His messenger, he has indeed achieved a
great achievement
(since he is in the right direction to
Happiness and Bliss) |
|
72- |
We indeed did offer the trust of custody
to the
heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they refused to
bear that responsibility
as they were afraid that they could not afford it, but mankind
accepted to bear it.
He indeed has shown to be very wicked and very ignorant.
1 |
|
73- |
(On that basis it is) That God imposes
suffering on the hypocrites men or women
and those men and women
who associate other beings as partners (to God, in the prayers
or beliefs),
and (so is that because of their good attitude and
behavior),
God turns His Grace on the believing men and women,
as God is Very Forgiving, Most Merciful (to good people). |
