Translation of the Holy Quran by Dr.
Gilani |
I bear witness that there is Only One God and I
bear witness that Muhammad is the servant and the messenger of
God |
Sheba
- Chapter 34
|
Contains 54 Verses – Mecca |

|
1- |
All grateful praise is due to God, Who owns
whatever is in the heavens and the earth,
also all grateful
praise is due to Him in the Hereafter life to come; as He alone is
All Wise, All Aware. |
|
2- |
He knows all that enters the earth and all
that comes out of it,
as well as all that comes down from the
sky and all that goes up into it.
And He alone is Most Merciful, Very Forgiving. |
|
3- |
And yet, those who denied the truth, said: “the Hour of Resurrection will not come up upon us”.
Say: “Yes, by my Lord, the All Knower of all the unseen, it will
most certainly come upon you,
not even an atom's weight in the
heavens, nor in the earth escapes Him (His Knowledge and His
Control)
and neither is
there anything smaller or larger than that, but that it is in
His Clear Design Book, |
|
4- |
(It is with such knowledge of all details)
That He shall reward those who have believed
and have done
righteous good deeds.
Those are the ones for whom there is
forgiveness of sins and a wonderful generous provision (especially in the
Paradise). |
|
5- |
Whereas for those who strive against Our
Messages, (trying to defeat the purpose of their guidance,)
those
are the ones upon whom there is a suffering of real painful
magnitude to come. |
|
6- |
And those who have been blessed with
knowledge,
see and appreciate that all that has been sent down
to you (Muhammad) from your Lord,
(all of that) is indeed the truth and that it
leads to the Way of the Almighty Dominant, to Whom all praise is
due. |
|
|
7- |
(Contrary to that) those who denied the truth,
said:
“Shall we point out to you a man who states
to you that (after your death,)
when you have become completely disintegrated into dust, you shall certainly be
restored in a new act of creation?”
1 |
|
8- |
(They say:) "Has he (Muhammad) invented a lie attributing it to
God or is he a madman?”
It is not so.
But those who don’t believe in
the Hereafter life to come, are going to suffer and they are in a
distant wrong way. |
|
9- |
Have they not considered whatever lies before
them and what is behind them from the sky and the earth?
If We decide, We could sink the earth underneath
with them
or cause a pieces of heavenly body fall upon them from
the sky.
In all this, there is indeed a lesson for every servant
(of God), who often turns to Him (for help and repentance). |
|
10- |
And indeed We graced David with Our
Favor, commanding:
“O you mountains, sing with (echoing) him the
praise and you birds also do the same.”
And We also made the iron
soft for him (by teaching him how to do it). |
|
11- |
(We told him) “Make coats and rings of armor
and measure for loose fitting
and for easy wear
and do righteous good work; for indeed I always see what you are
doing.” |
|
12- |
And to Solomon, We made the wind useful,
so that using it in a morning course,
(he covered the distance of) a month’s
journey and in its evening course, he covered a month’s journey.
And We caused
a fountain of molten copper to flow for him
(by teaching him how
to melt copper and let it pour down into casts like a fountain)
and even from among the Jinns (invisible beings),
there were some who
worked at his disposal by the Permission of his Lord;
also
whichever one of them deviated from Our Command,
We would warn him by causing him to taste the suffering of a blazing flame. |
|
13- |
They made for him whatever he wished of
temples, sculptures and bowls as large as pools
and also large
fixed cooking pots (ovens), and (We said: )
“O David’s people, be always actively grateful (to Me), but only a few of my servants
are truly grateful.” |
|
14- |
Yet (with all his power, Solomon had also
to die and) when We decreed that he dies,
nothing indicated to them of his death (as he remained stiff),
other than an insect from the earth which chewed up his cane,
so that when he fell down,
those Jinns (invisible beings at his service)
saw clearly that,
had they understood the reality (of what had happened) beyond
their perception,
they would not have stayed any longer in the
humiliating state of suffering (in their continuous daily labor). |
|
15- |
(Further south,) Indeed there was a sign (of
Grace) for the people of Sheba,
2
in their town; there were two gardens, to the right and to
the left (of their town)
and (its dwellers were told to: ) “Eat of the provision, blessed
from your Lord and be grateful to Him,
for such a nice
countryside and for the Lord Sustainer, Who is very Forgiving of sins.”
|
|
16- |
But they turned away (from Us), and so We
let loose towards them a flood that overwhelmed
the dams and
charged their two (fruitful) gardens into a couple of gardens
producing bitter fruit
and tamarisk and a few (wild) lote-trees, |
|
17- |
Thus We punished them, because of they were ungrateful disbelievers.
But do We ever punish except the very
ungrateful ones? |
|
18- |
And (before their ruin), We had placed
between them and the town which We had blessed, several villages
within sight of one another and so We had made traveling easy
(for them, so they would say);
“Travel safely there, by night or by
day.” |
|
19- |
Later they said: “Our Lord, make the
distances between our journeys longer”,
but they had wronged themselves (by being ungrateful and for
which reason God let their villages run down);
so We made them as topics of
conversation
and We scattered them all around (as most of them
had to leave because of the flood, destruction and lack of
livelihood).
In this story, there are really important lessons
for all persons who are very patient in adversity
and very
grateful (to God, in all circumstances). |
|
20- |
And indeed Iblis (Satan) confirmed his opinion about them (mankind),
to be correct
(that mankind
will be ungrateful), so that they followed him all except a
special kind of true believers. |
|
21- |
And yet he had no power at all over them
(as they have the choice to be believers and grateful or not),
this
is so that We would make it known with clear distinction between those who
truly believe in the Hereafter life to come
and those who are in
doubt about it.
And all the while, your Lord watches over all
things |
|
22- |
Say: “Call upon those beings whom you
imagine (have godly power) besides God;
they have not own an
atom's weight in the heavens or on earth,
nor have they
any share or partnership in either, nor has He any of them to be his
helper.” |
|
23- |
Furthermore, no attempt of any
intercession is of any use before Him except 3
for whomever He has already given permission,
so that when the great anxiety and fear
(about their ultimate destiny and situation) is lifted from
their hearts,
they will tell (each other): “What is that which your Lord has said
(about you),“
to
which they answer; saying: “All that which is true and rightfully
deserved, and He is the Most High, the Most Great”.
|
|
24- |
Say: “Who gives you livelihood and
provision from the heavens and the earth?”
Say: “God, and either we (Muslims who believe in His oneness) or you (who deny His
Oneness)
are rightly guided or a in clearly wrong path and
direction”. |
|
25- |
Say: “You will not be questioned about
what sins we may have committed,
nor shall we be questioned
about what you are doing or had been doing.” |
|
26- |
Say: “Our Lord will bring together all of
us (on the Day of Judgment),
then He will lay open the truth
of our behavior between us, in justice,
for He Alone is the One Judge, Who opens up
all the truth, the All Knowing One”. |
|
27- |
Say: “Show me those whom you have joined
with Him as partners (in your mind);
none of which is true at
all, but He Alone is God, the Almighty, the All Wise". |
|
28- |
(As regards you, O Muhammad,) We have not
sent you other than for the entire mankind,
to be a bringer of
good news (to come for good people)
and as a Warner (to bad
people), but most people are not aware of this fact. |
|
29- |
And they (keep asking and) say:
“When is
this promise (of the Day of Resurrection) going to happen if you
are being truthful?” |
|
30- |
Say:
“There is an appointment Day awaiting you, which you can neither
postpone nor advance by even one hour”. |
|
31- |
And (yet despite all this warning,) those
who denied themselves the truth, said:
“We shall never believe in
this Quran, nor in whatever (Scripture) remains of earlier
revelations”.
But if you could only see (how it will be on
Judgment Day) when the evildoing disbelievers
shall be forced to
stand before their Lord, throwing blame on each other, back and
forth,
those who had been put down (to obey,) will say to those
who had arrogantly glorified themselves, the following:
“Had it
not been for you, we should certainly had been believers”. |
|
32- |
(In response,) those who were arrogantly
in power, will say to those who had been kept down:
“Did we keep
you back by force from following the guidance, after it had
reached you?
Not really, but you (yourself) were the guilty
ones”. |
|
33- |
And those who were kept weak, will say to
those who persisted in arrogance:
“Not so, but it was by your plotting by night and day, when you
forced us to disbelieve in God and assume rivals for Him”.
And when they see the suffering (waiting for them), they will be
concealing their regrets
(for disobeying God in their lifetime on earth).
And We shall have
shackles placed around the necks of those who used to deny the truth.
Are they being punished for anything other than what they used
to practice (blasphemy and ingratitude to God)? |
|
34- |
Not a single Warner did We send to any
town or community
but that those who were given to pursuit of
pleasure and wealth, would say:
“We reject and deny the Message
which you have been sent with.” |
|
35- |
They also said: “We have more wealth and
children and we are not going to be punished.” |
|
36- |
Say: “In reality my Lord is the One Who
gives abundance in provision to whomever He wants
and He
restricts and limits (for whomever He decides),
but most people
do not know (God’s Ways of testing and trial)". |
|
37- |
And it is neither your wealth, nor your
children that bring you nearer (or dearer) to Us,
but that
anyone who believes and does righteous good deeds,
those are the ones
for whom there will be double reward for what they did
and they
will be in high residence (in Paradise), safe and sound. |
|
38- |
Whereas those who strive to defeat the
purpose of Our Message, they will be given to suffering. |
|
39- |
Say: “Truly, my Lord gives abundance of
livelihood to whomever of His servants He wants or limits it for
him,
and whatever you give to the needy people, He will always
replace it, for He is the Best of providers.” |
|
40- |
And on the Day when He gathers them
altogether, He will say to the angels: “Did these people use to worship
you?” |
|
41- |
They (the angels) will say: “Glory to You,
You are Above and Beyond having partners.
You are our Dear Guardian and
Protector, not they,
but they used to worship the jinns (forces,
invisible and concealed from their senses), most of them
believed in them." |
|
42- |
So on that Day, none of you (created
beings) can have any benefit or harm to one another
and We will
say to those who did injustice (such as worshiping other than God, not
believing in the Hereafter):
“Now experience the suffering of
Fire which you used to call a lie”. |
|
43- |
And when Our clear Messages are read to
them, they say:
“This (Muhammad) is nothing but a man who wishes
to hinder you from what your forefathers used to worship.”
And
they say: “This (the Quran) is nothing but a fabricated lie.”
And (in the past also) those who denied the truth, when it was presented to them, said:
“This is nothing but an obvious magic.” |
|
44- |
Whereas We had not given them (the people
of Mecca or Medina) any Book or Scripture to study
(or to quote
from, to say such things against Muhammad and the Quran),
nor
did We send any Warner to them, before you (Muhammad). |
|
45- |
Same way, those (ancients people) called
(Our Revelations) a lie,
although those people (of the old) had
not obtained even a tenth of the truth and information
which We
have granted to these people, yet when they called My
Messengers liars,
how awesome was My punishment on them. |
|
46- |
Say: “I advise you one thing; that you should
stand in the company of another or alone in the cause of God,
also think well about your fellow-man
(Muhammad), that there is no madness in him.
He is only a warner to you, about the severe suffering which is to come (if you
disbelieve).” |
|
47- |
Say: ”I have never asked you for any wage
or reward, the benefit of which is yours;
my reward rests with no one but God and
He is a Witness over all things. |
|
48- |
Say: “In reality, my Lord inspires (puts and
places) the truth
(by inspiration into the heart of the Messenger),
as He Alone is
the One all Knowing, all that is beyond the perception of created beings.” |
|
49- |
Say (also O Muhammad): “The truth
(Revelation of God) has come (to mankind)
and the falsehood (idols and
others which are worshiped by disbelievers) cannot create anything, nor bring
them back”. |
|
50- |
Say: “Even if (you think that) I am
wrong, then I should be going wrong against myself and against my own
good,
but if I
remain guided, it is because of the Revelation of my Lord to me,
for He is indeed the All Hearing, the Ever Near”. |
|
51- |
If you could see the situation when they
will be terrified,
when there will be no possibility of escape (for them from
the punishment), and they will be seized from a near place.
|
|
52- |
And they will say (in the Hereafter when
they notice the punishment). “Now we believe in it (the Quran)”.
But how could
they receive it where it is too far (and too late from
their earthly life)? |
|
53- |
But they had indeed rejected all that
(belief in the Hereafter) before
and they were claiming (denial)
about the unseen future (such as Paradise, Hell, Judgment Day)
from a
place far away (in their earthly lifetime). |
|
54- |
And an obstacle and barrier will be set
between them and all that which they desire,
just as it was done
to people of their kind before.
They were really in grave doubt
(about the Hereafter, but they kept denying it without any
knowledge about the future). |
