Translation of the Holy Quran by Dr. Gilani

(The Letter) Sad  -  Chapter 38                |                                     Contains 88 Verses – Mecca

In the Name of God, the Most Gracious the Most Merciful

1-

Saad.
Consider the Quran, containing so much reminder and explanations.

2-

Yet those who deny and reject it, are in false pride and in opposition to it.

3-

How many generations (like these disbelievers) have We destroyed before their time (for similar reason).
And (how) they called (for help) when it was too late to escape (the punishment).

4-

And they (the Arab pagans) wonder why a warner (Muhammad) came to them from among themselves.
And so the disbelievers said: “He is a magician, a liar”.

5-

“Does he claim all godly powers are but One?
This is really a strange thing”.

6-

And their leaders went on, saying: “Go on and hold on to your gods.
This is definitely decided upon".

7-

“We never heard such a thing in the religion of the other generations (such as Christianity with its trinity).
This is nothing but an invention”.

8-

“Is it possible that the Reminder was sent down to him (alone) from among us?”
The truth is that they are in doubt about my Message and Reminder, as they have not yet tasted My punishment”.

9-

Or do (they claim) they own treasures of the Mercy of your Lord, the Almighty, the One Who grants so much
(such as prophethood to someone)?

10-

Or do they own the control of the heavens and the earth and all that is in between them?
So, that they could have the power to influence the causes of what happens .

11-

The totality of all these armies of hosts (of disbelievers) will be defeated like the confederates
(who were defeated before).

12-

Long before them, many rejected the Messengers, such as the people of Noah, Aad, and the Pharaoh,
men with lots of power.

13-

Also (the people of) Thamood, and the people of Lot and the forest-dwellers, those were parties (against the Messengers).

14-

All of them called the Messengers as liars, therefore they deserved and received (God's) punishment.

15-

And these (pagans of Mecca) are waiting for the single extremely loud sound (at the end of the life on earth),
for which there is no delay or postponement

16-

They (dared even and ) said:
“Our Lord, Bring up our records (of good and evil) soon, before the Day of Reckoning”.

17-

(O Muhammad) Be patient of what they say and remember Our Servant David, who was empowered (by hope).
He indeed, turned very often to God (for help).

18-

We made the mountains to reflect in harmony the sound of his glorifying Our Praise (Us) in the evening and at the sunrise.

19-

And the birds, gathered together, all with along with him very often, singing in glorifying Him.

20-

And We made his kingdom strong and granted him wisdom, and judgment and good analysis in his speech.

21-

Also has the news of the two complaining parties ever reached you,
when they surrounded the walls of the temple, to climb in?

22-

When they came in upon David and he was terrified from their sudden presence.
They said: “Don’t be afraid, We are two complaining parties, one of whom has wronged the other,
therefore judge between us on the basis of truth and justice and do not deviate from the right way,
also guide us into the right way.”

23-

“This is my brother who has ninety-nine ewes (sheep), while I have only one ewe.
But he said: "hand it over to me and overpowered me with his argument and talking.”

24-

David (without listening to the story of the other side) said:
“He has indeed wronged you in demanding your ewe to add it to his ewes.
And in fact many partners oppress one another, except those who have believed
(in God and the Hereafter) and do righteous good works and they are few in numbers."
And suddenly David noted that in fact We were testing him (in his judgment)
and so he asked his Lord to forgive him and fell down bowing and turned to God in repentance.

25-

So We forgave him that mistake.
And indeed he has had a nice place with Us and he will have a good place for the ultimate return.

26-

(We advised him): “O David, we certainly have placed you as a succeeding governor on the earth,
so judge between people according to truth and justice and do not follow (your) desire,
which will mislead you from the Way of God.
Certainly those who deviate from the Way of God, will have a severe torment
for having forgotten the Day of Account and Reckoning.”

27-

Also We did not create the sky and the earth and what is in between them in vain,
without any meaning or purpose, as is the assumption of those who deny the truth.
Then woe to those who disbelieve of the Fire (of Hell).

28-

Do you think We will treat those who believe and do righteous good works the same as the mischief-makers on the earth?
Or that We would treat the pious people like the wicked ones?

29-

This is the Book which We have sent down to you (Muhammad), full of blessing,
that they may study and ponder over its Messages
and those who have insight and reasoning, will remember and act upon it.

30-

And to David, We granted Solomon as a son, what an excellent servant he was.
He was indeed often turning to Us (in glorifying Us and asking Us for help).

31-

Once many well-trained horses were presented to him in the sunset, evening time.

32-

He said: "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good horses over the remembrance of my Lord,
until the sun disappeared into the curtain [of night again]".

33-

(He ordered:) “Bring the herd of horses to me another time”.
he then began to pass his hand over their legs and their necks .

34-

We did indeed test and try Solomon and we placed a body on his throne (so that he was shaken in his kingdom),
therefore, he did turn (to Us for forgiveness and help).

35-

He said: “O my Lord, forgive me please and grant me a kingdom,
which would not be reachable for anyone after me to get hold of it.
You certainly are the Real Giver”.

36-

We then placed the wind at his disposal , so that it would flow easily whichever way he wanted.

37-

Also We placed at his disposal strong devilish men at his service, doing all kinds of building and diving services.

38-

And others (who were prisoners) together in shackles, (We subjected to work for him for different tasks)

39-

We said: “This is Our Gift, so you may spend and give to others or withhold, without being questioned for.”

40-

And surely he has a special status with Us and a nice place of final return (in Paradise).

41-

Also remember Our servant Job, (the prophet) when he called his Lord, saying:
“Satan has really come in touch with me, causing me distress and suffering”.

42-

(Upon his call, he was told:)
“Strike the ground with your foot: This is to cause a cool water spring to flow for washing and drinking.”

43-

And We granted him back his family and the like of them besides them, as an act of Our Grace
and as a reminder for people with insight.

44-

And (We told him to) take a bundle of thin grass in your hand and hit with it,
and don’t break your oath, (so solve your previous hasty oath with this gentle solution).
We found him patient in adversity, what an excellent servant.
He in fact always turned to Us (for help, to pray and for forgiveness).

45-

Also mention Our servant Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, having had inner strength and insight.

46-

We really freed them from any attachments
and purified them (from any sinning) by remembrance of the Home (in the Hereafter).

47-

And indeed they are now in Our Sight and Our Grace, among the chosen, real good ones.

48-

And mention Ishmael, Elisha and Isaiah; all them were among the real good ones.

49-

This (Quran) is a Reminder.
And certainly the pious, God-conscious people will have the good retreat to turn to.
(in this world and in Paradise).

50-

Everlasting gardens (in Paradise) with doors always open to them.

51-

They will recline there, they will call there for fruits which are plenty and for drinks.

52-

With them there will be bashful mates [chaste women], equal in age to them.

53-

This is what you (pious people) are promised for the Day of Reckoning (of your lives’ accounts).

54-

This is indeed Our Provision which will never be finished or exhausted.

55-

All this (for the pious ones), but as for transgressors (of God’s Laws,) there will be indeed an evil final return.

56-

Hell, (is the place) they will arrive in, and what an awful place to stay in.

57-

This, they will have to taste; boiling fluid and filthy water.        2

58-

And other similar sufferings.

59-

(To the leaders of such people will be announced:)
"This large group entering with you (in Hell), will have no welcome, as they are going to endure the Fire".

60-

They will say (to their leaders):
“No welcome for you either. You were the ones who brought this upon us. What an awful place to have to stay in”.

61-

They will say: “O our Lord, whoever brought this upon us, add a double punishment to that person in the Fire”.

62-

They will say:
“What is the matter with us that we don’t see the men whom we used to consider them as among the bad guys?”

63-

“We used to make fun of them, or is it that our eyes missed or failed to see them?”

64-

This indeed will be the true item, about which the inhabitants of the Fire will quarrel and dispute.

65-

Say (O Muhammad): “I am a warner indeed and that there is no one worthy of worship except God,
the One and Only God, the Irresistible Who has absolute dominion over all”.

66-

The Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Almighty, the Very Forgiving (God)”.

67-

“This is the great news”,

68-

“From which you turn away”.

69-

(Say in response to their question):
“I had no knowledge before about the conversation in the highest rank when they disputed”.

70-

“It was merely been revealed to me that I am indeed a warner who clarifies the truth”.

71-

When your Lord said to the angels: “I am about to create a human being from soil (clay)”.

72-

“And when I have fashioned him and have blown into him of the spirit of mine (that I have created),
then you should all bow down for him (for his creation) in prostration”.

73-

Then all the angels prostrated together,

74-

Except Iblis (who become the Satan), he was too proud and became of those who deny the truth.

75-

God said: “O Iblis (Satan), what held you from prostrating yourself
for the Creation of a being that I created with My Hands of Power?
Are you too proud or is it because you consider yourself among the highly-valued beings?”

76-

He (Satan) said: “I am better than he (the human), you created me from fire
and you created him from soil (clay)”.

77-

(Upon which God) said: “Then get out from there (that status) as you indeed are an outcast”.

78-

“And that certainly My Curse (lack of Grace) will be upon you till the day of Faith (Judgment)”.

79-

He (Satan) said: “My Lord, then grant me time and respite till the Day when they are resurrected”.

80-

God said: “So you are indeed of those given time and respite”.

81-

“Till the Day, which is a predetermined time”.

82-

He (Satan) said: “Then I swear by Your Might that I will surely deceive them all”,

83-

“Except your servants among them, who are freed from it all (and are sincere to you)”.

84-

God said: “This is then the truth and the truth I state”:

85-

"That I shall surely fill the Hell with you and with those who follow you among them, altogether”.

86-

(O Muhammad) Say: “I am not asking you for any wage or reward for this Message and effort
and I am not one of those who are fake and fabricate things”.

87-

“That (the Quran) is only a Reminder for all the mankind”.

88-

“And that you (mankind) shall learn to know its Message after a period of time”.      3
