Translation of the Holy Quran by Dr.
Gilani |
The Forgiver - Chapter
40
|
Contains 85 Verses – Mecca |
|
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious the
Most Merciful |
|
|
2- |
The Revelation of the Book (the Quran) is
by the Almighty, the All Knowing One. |
|
3- |
The Forgiver of sins, the Accepter of
repentance and apology,
yet Severe in punishment (of
those who do not repent their sins), ever so Grantor of favors.
There is really
no one worthy of worship, except He.
To Him is the ultimate destination of all. |
|
4- |
No one disputes the Revelations of
God except those who disbelieve,
so do not let their (self serving and show off) activity
throughout the lands deceive you.
(as they will at
the end lose everything). |
|
5- |
Before their time, the people of Noah and
other groups after them also denied (God’s Revelations),
and every (disbelieving) nation made lots of efforts against
their Messenger to seize him
and argued wrongly to put down the
truth by it.
Then I seized them and how awesome was My
punishment. |
|
6- |
And that way the Word of your Lord has
been justified and realized upon those who denied the truth.
That they become the inhabitants of the Fire (of Hell). |
|
7- |
Those entities who carry out the duties in the Dominion of the Universe
and those who are
around it, they all glorify their Lord with gratefulness and
truly believe in Him
and they ask for Forgiveness for the
believers in Him, saying:
“Our Lord, Your Mercy and Knowledge
encompasses everything.
Therefore please forgive those who repented and
followed Your Way
and save them from the suffering of the
Blazing Fire”. |
|
8- |
“Our Lord, please allow them into the
Everlasting Gardens (of Paradise) which You promised them
and
also the righteous ones from among their forefathers, their
spouses and their descendents.
Truly You are the Almighty, the
All Wise”, |
|
9- |
"And save them from the results of the sin
and the hardships.
As indeed anyone whom You save from those hardships on that Day,
You have Mercy on him (or her).
And that
is the great success”. |
|
10- |
Indeed those who used to disbelieve and
deny the truth, will be addressed:
“God’s Dislike of you is
greater than your dislike and hatred of yourselves now,
since you
were called (in worldly life) towards faith and belief (in God’s
Way), but then you rejected”. |
|
11- |
(Whereupon) they will say: “O our Lord,
You decided on our death twice
(before my existence and
at the time of death)
and caused us to live twice (by birth and now in the
Hereafter),
so we confess now on our sins, is there then any way
to get out of this?” |
|
12- |
(The answer will be, that this is you who
brought this upon yourself),
“This is because
when God Alone was called upon (in prayer),
you rejected;
but
when others were called beside Him, you believed.
So now (you
see that) the Judgment is only by God, the Most High, the
Greatest”. |
|
13- |
God is the One, Who shows you His Signs
(of Majesty and Immense Power)
and He sends down to you (by
sun’s rays etc) from the sky, a livelihood and provision.
But
none notices (all the blessings) except those who keep on
remembering God frequently. |
|
14- |
So call upon God with pure faith unto Him
(do not pray unto others), even though the disbelievers hate it.
|
|
15- |
He
is the Giver of higher grades (to people),
the Lord of the Dominion of all existence.
He sends the Revelation and Inspiration by His Command,
to whomever of His Servants He wants,
to warn and alert them of the Day
of the Universal Meeting. |
|
16- |
The Day when they all are present,
nothing of them will be hidden to God.
Whose is the Kingdom of
that Day?
Of course it belongs to God, the One, the Irresistible, (Who
holds control over all that exist). |
|
17- |
On that day, every person will be dealt
with according to what that person earned.
No injustice will be
done to anyone on that Day.
Certainly God is Swift in accounting
(of person’s deeds). |
|
18- |
Also (O Muhammad) warn them of the Day
which is ever drawing nearer,
when the hearts (with grief and
self-blame) will be choking the throats, yet they have to
control their anger.
There will be no friends or intermediary
(intercessor) for the unjust wrong-doers,
whose words would be ever obeyed or be paid any
attention to. |
|
19- |
He (God) knows the cheating of the eyes
and whatever the minds hide. |
|
20- |
God judges by facts and truth, while
those whom they (the polytheists) call, other than Him,
have
nothing to judge at all.
Certainly it is Only God Who is
All Hearing All Observing. |
|
21- |
Why don’t they travel on the earth, so
that they could see how was the end of those who lived before
them?
They were superior to them in strength and remnants and
influences on earth,
yet God seized them because of their sins
and they had nobody to protect them from God. |
|
22- |
This was because their Messengers (of God)
brought them clear evidences and explanations,
but they kept
rejecting and disbelieving, so God seized them in punishment.
He
is indeed Most Strong, Severe in Punishment and in Retribution. |
|
23- |
We also sent Moses with Our Messages and
a clear authority, |
|
24- |
To the Pharaoh and Hamaan (his general)
and to Korah (the very rich and proud man),
but they called him
(Moses): “A magician who is lying a lot)”. |
|
25- |
Then when he brought them the truth from
Us, they said:
“Kill the sons of those who believe along with him and
save their women to live (to serve)”.
But the plans of the
disbelievers go only into error and failure. |
|
26- |
The Pharaoh even said:
“Leave Moses to
me, I shall kill him as he would be calling his Lord (to stop me
from killing him).
I really fear that he might change your
religion or that he may cause mischief to appear in the land”. |
|
27- |
Moses said: “I indeed sough refuge by
my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant person,
who does not
believe in the Day of Account Reckoning”. |
|
28- |
And a beveling man from the Pharaoh’s
clan who had hidden his faith, said:
“Are you going to kill a
man just because he says: My Lord is God,
even though he brought you clear proofs from your Lord?
Also if he is telling a
lie, his lie will be against him,
but if he is being truthful,
then some of that calamity which he promises against you, will
hit you.
In fact God does not guide anyone who goes beyond
limits and tells lies”. |
|
29- |
“O my people, you are in charge of the
kingdom today, dominant in the land.
But who could save us from
the hardship and difficulty from God, should it come?”
The
Pharaoh said: “I am presenting to you only the way I see it and
I am only guiding you in the right policy”. |
|
30- |
The believing person also said:
“O my
people, I fear for you the fate of the day of disaster on the
confederates (in the past),” |
|
31- |
“Like the fate of the people of Noah, Aad
and Thamood and those folks after them.
And God does not intend
any injustice to His servants”. |
|
32- |
“Also my people, I fear for you of the Day
of mutual calling each other
(for help in disaster, where they can't hear each other)”. |
|
33- |
“The kind of day when you turn your backs
to each other, as there will be no one to protect you from God;
for whoever God leaves in error, he or she won’t ever have any
guide”. |
|
34- |
“In fact Joseph came to you with clear
evidences before, in the past,
but you did not stop doubting
about the Messages which he had brought for you, until he died,
you said:
“God will not send any Messenger after him”.
So is that;
when a person goes beyond limits of
decency and keeps doubting,
and throwing suspicion (on God’s
warnings), God leaves him in error”. |
|
35- |
The behavior of those who argue about God’s
Messages without any evidence given to them,
is a greatly
detestable and ugly behavior in the View of God and in the view
of the believers.
It is in this way that God sets a seal (of no return) on the
heart of any arrogant, offending suppressor (of
the Truth). |
|
36- |
The Pharaoh said: “O Hamaan, build me a
very high tower, by which I may get the means”, |
|
37- |
“The means of reaching to the
heavens, so that I could get to know about the God of
Moses,
even though I really suspect that he is a liar”.
This way the Pharaoh’s evil act seemed fair to him and
he was barred from the right path.
And all the Pharaoh’s
schemes and plans led only to ruin and self-destruction. |
|
|
|
38- |
On the other hand, the person who was a
believer (from among his clan) said:
“O my folks, follow me, I
will guide you to the way of improvement”. |
|
39- |
“O my people, this life of the world is
really a temporary enjoyment, but the Hereafter is the real
lasting home”. |
|
40- |
“Whoever does an evil act, he will be
dealt with only according to that
and whoever,
male or female
does a good deed and is a believer (in God, the Hereafter and
His Message),
those are the ones who will enter the Garden of
Paradise,
in which they will be provided for without limit (in
abundance)”. |
|
41- |
“And O my people, how is that I call you
to salvation but you call me to the Fire?” |
|
42- |
“You urge me to disbelieve in God and
assume partners in His Divinity, of which I have no knowledge,
but I am inviting you to the Almighty, the Very Forgiving”. |
|
43- |
"There is no doubt, what you are calling
me (to worship) has no power or worth to be called,
neither in
this world, nor in the Hereafter, as indeed our ultimate return
is to God
and that the trespassers (of God’s Rules), will
be the co-inhabitants of the Fire”. |
|
44- |
You will then remember what I am telling
you now.
Furthermore I totally entrust my affair to God,
since
He is the Only All Observing over His servants”. |
|
45- |
So God saved him from the evils which
they had planned (against him),
while evil suffering overwhelmed the Pharaoh’s followers. |
|
46- |
Fire is what they are exposed to mornings
and evenings (their souls are exposed to till the Doomsday).
And
when the Hour of judgment comes, (the Verdict will be:)
“Enter
the Pharaoh’s people in the most severe suffering”. |
|
47- |
And when they will dispute and argue with
each other in the Fire,
then the weak followers will say to the
arrogant gang leaders:
“We were really always following you; can
you then now relieve us from some of the Fire?” |
|
48- |
(To which) the arrogant leaders will say:
“We are all together in it.
God has indeed already judged
between His creatures”. |
|
49- |
Also those in the Fire will say to the
guards of the Hell:
“Call up to you Lord to lighten up our
suffering for one day”. |
|
50- |
They will respond, saying: “Did your
Messengers not come to you with clear explanations?”
They say:
“Yes”.
The guards will say:
“Then call as you wish. But the
calling of the disbelievers goes nowhere but into darkness and
void”. |
|
51- |
We will certainly help Our Messengers and
the true believers in the life of his world
and on the Day when
the witnesses will stand up (for judgment). |
|
52- |
The Day when the excuses of the evil
mongers will be of no use to them.
And curse and rejection will
be theirs and they will have an awful place of stay. |
|
53- |
And indeed We gave Moses the guidance and
made the Children of Israel to inherit the Book (the Torah), |
|
54- |
As a guide and a reminder for people with
insight. |
|
55- |
Therefore (O Muhammad) be patient, as certainly
the Promise of God always comes true
and ask forgiveness for your faults and sins and glorify your
Lord by night and from early morning hours. |
|
56- |
Surely those who put God’s Messages in
question and argue against them,
without having been given any
evidence against them, in reality there is a false
pride in their hearts,
which they can not satisfy.
So seek
refuge and protection from God,
for indeed He is the One, Who is
the All Hearing, the All Observing. |
|
57- |
Of course the creation of the heavens and
the earth is greater than the creation of mankind,
but most
people do not know (its meaning). |
|
58- |
But then the blind and those who see well
are not equal,
neither are equal those who believe
and those who
keep on doing evil.
So seldom and so little do you (human beings)
appreciate this. |
|
59- |
Certainly the Hour (the Time of Judgment
Day) is coming, no doubt about it, yet most people do not
believe in. |
|
60- |
And your Lord said:
“Call me, I shall
respond to you. Surely those who are too proud to worship Me,
shall enter the Hell, humiliated”. |
|
61- |
God is the One, Who made the night for
you to rest in and the day to help you see things.
God is truly
Graceful on mankind, yet most people are not grateful. |
|
62- |
This is God, your Lord, the Creator of
all things, none is worthy of worship except He.
So how is it
that you turn away (from the truth and worship others)? |
|
63- |
That is how those
who argued against God’s Messages, were turned away (from God). |
|
64- |
God is the One, Who mad the earth as your
home and the sky (the space above you)
as a massive building
place and He gave you form and shape, 1
and also He made your
shape beautiful and provided you with plenty of good things.
That is God, your Lord.
Therefore, God Who is the Lord of all that exist, is the source
of all blessings. |
|
65- |
He is the Ever Living.
None is worthy of
worship except He, so call Him with pure and sincere faith in Him.
All
grateful praise is due to the Lord of the worlds and all that exist. |
|
66- |
Say: “I have been forbidden to worship
those which you call and pray to, other than God,
since clear
explanations have come to me from my Lord
and I have been
commanded to submit myself to the Lord of the worlds and all that exist”. |
|
67- |
He is the One, Who initially created you
from the soil (dust),
then from a mixture of sperm and ovum,
and in
later stages, from a suspended leech-like being,
2
then He brings
you out (from the womb of your mother) as a baby-infant,
to let you grow to reach the age of your maximum strength,
later to grow as old folks, and some of you
die before that.
Also that you may reach the appointed time (of death), and all
that is for you to elaborate and understand. |
|
68- |
He is the One, Who gives life and causes
death.
So when He decides upon a thing or matter, He says: “Be”, and it is. |
|
69- |
Don’t you see those who argue against
God’s Messages, how they are turned away (from the truth)? |
|
70- |
Those who claim the Book (the Quran) to
be a lie and deny all which We sent to Our Messengers.
They will
come to know (the truth and the result of their denial). |
|
71- |
When they will be dragged, with iron
collars around their necks and chained, |
|
72- |
To be dumped in boiling water, then they
shall scorch in the Fire. |
|
73- |
Then they will be told and asked: “Where
are those which you used to join in worship with God?”, |
|
74- |
“Other than God”.
They will say: “They all vanished from us, but we were not
praying to anything before”.
Thus God lets the disbelievers to be astray. |
|
75- |
(They will be told:) “That is because you
used to celebrate without right or reason on your earthly life
and that you used to behave arrogantly in your errors”. |
|
76- |
“Enter the gates of the Hell, to stay
there forever.
What an awful place is indeed the staying place
of the arrogant people”. |
|
77- |
(O Muhammad) Therefore be patient, the
Promise of God always comes true.
So whether We show you some part of what We have promised them
(the
punishment of the disbelieving enemies, while you 'Muhammad' are still
alive)
or after We cause you to die
(and you will not see their
punishment), at any rate, they will returned to Us
(and you will
know their fate in the Hereafter). |
|
78- |
And indeed We did send Messengers before
you,
some of them We told you about and some of whom We did not
tell you about.
And it was not up to any Messenger to bring any
Message except by the Permission of God.
Then when the
Commandment of God comes to pass,
all matters will be decided upon on the basis of truth and justice and
those followers of falsehood
will be the losers. |
|
79- |
God is the One, Who made cattle for you,
so that you could ride on and you also eat of some of them. |
|
80- |
And there are other benefits in them for you,
including reaching the desire of your hearts
(your goal and destination, by helping you trade).
And that you carried on them and
also on
ships. |
|
81- |
And He ever shows you His Signs (of
Majesty and Power).
So which of God’s Signs do you deny? |
|
82- |
Why don’t they travel though the earth so
that they would observe how was the end result of those who lived
before them?
They were more in number than them and stronger in
power and influences and remains of their works on the earth.
But all that which they had earned, did not help them out (of
destruction and ruin). |
|
83- |
Then when their Messengers came to them
with the clear explanations of the truth,
they were happy with
whatever knowledge they had and ultimately that which they used
to make fun of (the truth),
surrounded them to their ruin. |
|
84- |
So when they saw Our punishment, they
said:
“Now we believe in the One God Alone and reject all that we used
to associate with Him as partners”. |
|
85- |
But their faith after seeing Our
punishment, was not going to help them.
Such has been the way of
God in dealing with His creatures in the past
and those disbelievers have always become the losers. |

Building of new stars and destruction of old ones goes on in
