The Pen - Chapter 68                         |                       Contains 52 verses – Makka

In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful ذ

1-

Noon.
Consider the pen and by whatever means they write,

2-

You (Muhammad), by the Grace of your Lord, you are not a madman,

3-

And in fact there will be endless reward for you.

4-

And truly you have a great character.

5-

You will see and they will also see,

6-

As to which of you is deluded.

7-

Certainly your Lord knows best the ones who have deviated form His Way
and He knows best those who are (rightly) guided.

8-

So do not obey the deniers of the truth.

9-

They wish that if you would compromise (in the principles of the Religion),
so they would compromise with you.

10-

And do not obey any liar who swears a lot and is worthless.

11-

A slanderer, going about with defaming stories,

12-

Hinderer of good deeds, transgressor (of God’s Commandments) and very sinful.

13-

Rude and cruel and moreover born out of wedlock (unmarried parents, a bastard).

14-

Even though having wealth and children, (he is so ungrateful that),

15-

When Our Verses of Revelation are read to him, he says: “These are tales of the ancients”.

16-

We shall brand him on his snout (snub nose).

17-

We indeed put them to the test and trial,
just as We put the people of the orchard-gardens to the test and trial,
when they swore that they would pick of its fruits or produce, early in the morning
(to prevent poor people from noticing their picking the harvest),

18-

Without saying 'God willing' (they thought they will surely pick all the harvest with no exception).

19-

Then a (fire) incident happened on it (the orchard) from your Lord (during the night) while they were asleep.

20-

So that it (the garden) became dark like a pitch dark night.

21-

They then called one another in the morning, (not knowing what had happened),

22-

To get on early to your harvest, if you want to pick the fruits or harvest.

23-

So they departed, speaking in low voice:

24-

“So that no poor person (would hear and) enter there upon you today (asking for charity)”.

25-

And they went on in the morning with the idea that they are able
(to prevent the poor from asking for some fruits or harvest).

26-

But when they saw it (the garden), they said: “We have been very wrong or have lost our way”.

27-

(Someone said:) “We are even deprived ourselves (from the harvest)”.

28-

The smartest among them said: “Did I not tell you, why don’t you praise God (and say God willing)".

29-

They said: “Glory to our Lord, we have really been very wrong”.

30-

Then some of them came to face others, blaming each other.

31-

They said: “Too bad for us , we really had been transgressors (of God’s Command)”.

32-

“May be our Lord will give us something better than that (garden), at any rate we really reach to our Lord (for help)”.

33-

Such is the punishment (in this life),
but the punishment in the Afterlife is certainly larger and greater, if only they know it.

34-

Certainly for the pious, God-conscious persons,
there will be blessed Gardens (of Paradise), by their Lord.

35-

Do We place the Muslims, submitting to Us, in the same position like the sinful ones?

36-

What is the matter with you?
How do you judge?

37-

Or do you have any book (any scripture) from which you learn this?

38-

In which whatever you want, you would have it?

39-

Or do you have promises or oaths from Us, reaching to the Day of Resurrection,
that whatever you decide or order or judge, will be yours?

40-

Ask them, which one of them can be sure of that and guarantee it .

41-

Or do they have any partners (who would guarantee for them)?
If so, then have them bring their partners, if they are being truthful.

42-

On the Day (of Judgment) when their legs (meaning these people’s deeds) will be laid bare
and they will be called to bow down to prostration, but they shall not be able to do so (before God).

43-

Their eyes shall be humbled down (out of shame), regret and disgrace overwhelms them;
they in fact were called to prostrate themselves in prayer (in their lifetime on earth),
while they were safe and sound (but they had refused).

44-

So leave to Me, (the punishment of) such people and those who claim this Quran to be a lie.
We shall lead them gradually into trouble by ways and means that they do not know.

45-

I will give them time, but My plan is very firm.

46-

Or is it (as if) you ask them a wage, so that they feel heavily burdened by debt,

47-

Or as if they have knowledge of the unseen, so that they write it down.

48-

So wait patiently for the Decision of your Lord and don’t be (impatient) like
'The companion of the fish ' (Jonah inside the big fish),
when he called out (to Us) while he became very distressed.
1

49-

Had it not been for a Grace of his Lord that reached him (by his call),
he would have been thrown onto the barren shore, while being blamed (for him leaving his people).

50-

But his Lord had elected him (as His Prophet) and placed him among the righteous ones.

51-

(Therefore be patient) Even though those who deny the truth,
they really would almost want to knock you down with (the hateful gaze of) their eyes,
whenever they hear the Reminder (The Quran)
and they say: “ He (Muhammad) is surely a madman”,

52-

Whereas it (the Quran) is nothing but a Reminder (advice) to all people of the world.
