Translation of the Holy Quran by Dr. Gilani |
|
The bundled up Person - Chapter 73 | Contains 20 verses – Makka |
|
|
يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلُ |
|
1- |
O you (Muhammad), bundled up and wrapped in garments, |
|
قُمِ اللَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا |
|
2- |
Stand to pray at night except for a little while, |
|
نِصْفَهُ أَوِ انقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا |
|
3- |
Half of it or a little less than that, |
|
أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا |
|
4- |
Or add a little more to it and recite the Quran in an easy, slow and harmonious tone. |
|
إِنَّا سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا |
|
5- |
We are in fact going to send down to you a weighty and highly important talk. |
|
إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا |
|
6- |
Certainly getting up at night for prayer,
(the feeling) is more intense and vibrant and the talking (with God) more upright and direct (as it is a quiet time). |
|
إِنَّ لَكَ فِي اَلنَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا |
|
7- |
Of course during the day you have prolonged duties. |
|
وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا |
|
8- |
And mention the Name of your Lord (by night and by day) and devote yourself to Him completely. |
|
رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَاتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا |
|
9- |
The Lord of the east and the west, no one is
worthy of worship except He, so choose and take Him as your True Protector. |
|
وَاصْبِرْ عَلَى مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا |
|
10- |
And be patient with what they say (against you) and keep away from them in a nice way. |
|
وَذَرْنِي وَالْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُولِي النَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا |
|
11- |
And leave it to Me to deal with the deniers
who call My Messages as lies, those who are well off financially and do give them a little time. |
|
إِنَّ لَدَيْنَا أَنكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا |
|
12- |
Certainly the shackles to bind them and the raging Fire, are with Us. |
|
وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا |
|
13- |
And the kind of food that chokes them with sadness and a painful suffering. |
|
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَّهِيلًا |
|
14- |
On the Day when the earth and the mountains
will shake violently and the mountains become like a heap of moving sand. |
|
إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا شَاهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًا |
|
15- |
We have truly sent a Messenger (Muhammad) to
you people, to be a witness and a role-model for you, similar to the Messenger whom We sent to the Pharaoh. |
|
فَعَصَى فِرْعَوْنُ الرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا |
|
16- |
But the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger, so We seized him with a severe punishment. |
|
فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ الْوِلْدَانَ شِيبًا |
|
17- |
So how can you avoid the Day, if you don’t
believe it will occur, the Day which will make children grey-haired? |
|
السَّمَاء مُنفَطِرٌ بِهِ كَانَ وَعْدُهُ مَفْعُولًا |
|
18- |
When the sky will be split apart and His Promise shall be done. |
|
إِنَّ هَذِهِ تَذْكِرَةٌ فَمَن شَاء اتَّخَذَ إِلَى رَبِّهِ سَبِيلًا |
|
19- |
This (Quran) is truly a Reminder; so whoever wants, could take a path to His Lord. |
|
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ
يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَى مِن ثُلُثَيِ اللَّيْلِ
وَنِصْفَهُ وَثُلُثَهُ وَطَائِفَةٌ مِّنَ الَّذِينَ مَعَكَ
وَاللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ |
|
20- |
Your Lord of course knows that you (Muhammad)
stand up to pray a little less than two third of the night or half the night or a third of it, also a number of those who are with you (they do the same). And God gives the amount of time to the night and the day. and He knows that you will never count them up, so He accepted you. So recite of the Quran as much as it is easy for you. He knows that some of you may be sick, others traveling through the land, seeking of God’s Grace, and others are fighting in the Cause of God. Therefore recite of it (the Quran) as much as is easy for you. And do keep up the regular prayers and give charity and lend to God (in the cause of God) a nice loan. And whatever good you send ahead for yourselves, you will find it with God, it will be better and greater in reward. And ask God for forgiveness. God is truly Very Forgiving, Most Merciful. |
