Translation of the Holy Quran by Dr. Gilani

The one who frowned - Chapter 80                                |                                  Contains 42 verses – Medina

In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful ذ

1-

He (the prophet Muhammad) frowned and turned away,

2-

As the blind man approached him (while he was talking to the elders).         1

3-

But what do you know?
May be he (the blind man) will be the one who becomes pure and cleansed (from sins).

4-

Or that he would receive the lesson and the Reminder might benefit him.

5-

But as for the one who thinks of himself as rich and self-sufficient,

6-

To whom you (Muhammad) are attending,

7-

What does it matter to you if he purifies himself (of idol-worship) or not?
That is not your responsibility, if he does not purify himself.
(Your duty is to proclaim the Message of God).

8-

But regarding the person who came to you, running (with enthusiasm),

9-

And he is in awe and fear (of God),

10-

You then neglect him and divert your attention to someone else.

11-

No (do not do that), it (the Quran) is indeed a Reminder.

12-

So whoever wants, may pay attention to it.

13-

It is recorded in greatly honored pages.

14-

Kept in high regard and purified (immune from manipulation).

15-

They are and have been transmitted by the hands (of the scribes).
(the writers who wrote the Verses of the Quran,
such as Ali, each time the prophet Muhammad recited to them, he wrote them down),

16-

(Who are) honorable and pure .

17-

Mankind is cursed down and their personality is destroyed
because of that attitude, which makes them deny the truth and become ungrateful.

18-

(He should think) Of what thing did He (God) create him.

19-

He has created him (and her) from a 'Nutfah' (meaning copulated ovum),
then He has given him (and her) due proportions, capabilities and opportunities.

20-

Then He makes the path (to salvation) easy for them to follow.

21-

He then causes him to die and be placed in the grave.

22-

Later on, whenever He decides, He will resurrect him.

23-

But he  (the mankind) has not accomplished what He (God) had Commanded him to do.

24-

Mankind should then observe and look at his food,

25-

We pour down rain-water in abundance.

26-

Then We let the land to be split (into large splits).

27-

And We cause the grain to grow in it.

28-

As well as grapes and grasses (for pasture) and vegetables.

29-

And olives and date-palms.

30-

And gardens dense with trees.

31-

And fruits, herbs and fodder,

32-

As means of livelihood for you and for your cattle.

33-

Then when the Blast (of the Trumpet) arrives,

34-

That is the Day when a man (mankind) shall flee from his brother,

35-

His mother and his father,

36-

His spouse and children,

37-

On that Day, everyone will have enough of a condition that will make him careless about others.

38-

On that Day, some faces will be bright,

39-

Laughing, happy with getting good news (of Paradise).

40-

And other faces on that Day will be dust-stained,

41-

With darkness covering them.

42-

They were the ones who were ungrateful, disbelievers, and wicked evil mongers.

Footnotes

1
At one time, while the prophet Muhammad was trying to attract the attention of the influential leaders of the town to the Quran and Islam, a poor blind man came to that meeting, wanting to learn about the Quran and since he could not see where the prophet was, repeated his request several times. The prophet did not like to be interrupted, so he frowned and turned away, at which time the above Verses were revealed to him.
